The newest generation (3rd gen) nest seem to have gotten rid of the problems the older ones had. I stopped selling them years ago due to a lot of failures.

We now sell ecobee or Honeywell. We don’t make money warrantying products so we stay away from items with higher failure rates.

I like the Honeywell WiFi. My complaint on it is the one degree setting . I have the entry level WiFi and at the river I would prefer a 2 degree change before starting the ac back up .

Had two installed last week.
Worked great for a few days.

Great deal on them on costco online, $170 each and a free google home..they’ll be going up on eBay soon LOL

Woke up at 3am Saturday morning dripping sweat, it was 94 degrees in our bedroom. Hot air blowing from vents.

Go outside, compressor is running. Go into attic, furnace is blowing.

90 minutes on phone with their customer service, troubleshooting literally everything, wires to base are loose, causing errors.

Fixed this, one problem solved.

Other unit keeps restarting and dropping from network. Turns out there’s a batch of them with bad batteries.

Swapped it for another at costco...so far so good.

I’m cautiously optimistic that they’ll be fine.

I love the learning feature, and tethering to your phone so it knows if home or not.

$300 power bill last month keeping entire house at 73 degrees 24/7. Hoping to cut into that with the scheduling and learning features. No need to keep it that cool when no one is home during the day.

We’ve had one for a little over a year. Not sure how well the learning feature works for us but the WiFi part works good

Sounds like you need to get Palomar to come to Texas and hook you up with some solar. Then you can keep the house at 73 degrees 24/7 and not worry about it!

That’s what I did. My house on its “away” setting is 75.

I use the Honeywell lyric. The geo fencing feature is awesome. It uses your cell location and knows when your home or away and adjust the temps accordingly.

Believe me, I’d love to.

Power is pretty cheap tho...that $300 bill was for 4,200 kWh of power...$.07 per kWh

We don't spend enough time at any one home to have the unit try to learn our patterns . Having a WiFi unit we can monitor and turn on or off remote is perfect

I somewhat understand what the Nest is but why is it better than a regular thermostat? I program mine to be between 73-78 in the summer and 68-70 in the winter. Why do I need wi-fi or a smart one?

If you go on vacation and forget to turn it off, you can check. Some of us need to save a buck where we can or some may have pets that stay inside and just need to monitor it for piece of mind.

have two nests thermostats- one in corona and one in Havasu. Love it. Never have to get out of bed to turn it off or on. Also, can set it on the for dogs and turn it off when we leave. Have it set up with the cameras and nest smoke detector.

Best smart home money ever spent. My grandma left the stove on- the ac fans automatically turned on to circulate the air, smoke detector messaged our phones and cameras popped up on where the smoke was. Currently having an issue with 1 camera, and they are sending us another one.

I prefer Honeywell over other brands. I find them to be overall more reliable and MUCH easier to operate and program. The new T series thermostats are pretty awesome and pretty feature heavy but can easily be turned off as well.

I have a Honeywell T6 pro WiFi. I love the thing. The Honeywell app is so easy to use.

I always keep my house @70 degrees and paid up the ass for it, now with my Palomar system that was installed mid Oct, I still keep it at 70 degrees and have an $880 credit so far this year, This will be the 1st month that I will actually have a charge instead of a credit. Best move ever.

Yep, had it for a year, I like it, I keep the house at 88*, so a/c runs about 2-4 hours a day, 2 days before we head back, I’ll start dropping the temp at 3 am so the a/c doesn’t have to work so hard(maybe a dream) bring the house down to 77* by the time we get there. I like being able to see the history. Things you never knew. When we are there summer time, house at 77* a/c runs 10 or so hours a day. When we leave I set it to 88*. The first day we are gone 0-1 hour. 2nd day 1-2 hours, 3 day 2-3 hours, and most days there after are around 2-4 hours a day.
I don’t know if that is good or bad, but it’s what it is. I just dropped it from 88* to 83*, it says it will take 1 hour. Tonight I will drop it another 5*. We plan on being out there Friday morn.
I also have 3 cams, but my WiFi at 1 mg upload gets a bit stretched and some outages occur. But $19 a month for WiFi at a house we are not at full time, works for me.

I always see post like this, but you leave out, how much was the payment for the solar system this month, or if it’s payed for, how much was it, I can do the math to amitoriz it.

32k. My elect bill range from $280-$800 a month. The system will pay for it's self in 5.1 years.. and it has a 25 year warranty..

Sorry if I’m being a tard, but I don’t understand, you say most months, you use no power from the grid, but your bill IS $280-$800 a month, do you mean “was”? So now you have credit($800) that you can apply to any future grid use. They won’t send you a check? Right?

That's what I paid before solar.
My billing is based on a year usage. I'm 9 months into this year's billing with said credit.

Thanks
My math and usage tells me 20 years to pay off $32k, that’s without credits. I would have it paid off, just in time to die, lol.

I'll try to make it simple for you, lets just say my average elect bill is $400 per month, that's $4800 per year, Right so far?
Times that per 5 years and what do you have?

My average elect bill is nowhere near $400.. for 8 months it’s $50 for 4 months it’s $150. That’s $1k a year. I’ll go worst case, $1500 a year.$32000 by $1500= 21. No?
