I was finishing tweaking our landscape lights and having a few too many cocktails and thought it would be cool to have fire coming out of the waterfall.
A couple weeks of rabbit holing and I ordered a bunch of parts and pieces!

IMG_0842.jpeg

A little drilling, taping, and pipe doping and I have burners, gas valves and WIFI
IMG_0860.jpg

I started with some burner jets from a turkey fryer burner, built a little test manifold and drilled out the orifice with different size bits, not very scientific but it worked
IMG_0868.jpg

I built 2 large burners and one small burner

Mounted the gas valve and WIFI board for gas valves and ingitors

WIFI board and a 12 volt to 9 volt regulator to power the igniter modules

That’s cool. How long can you run it until you drain both propane tanks?

On another note, propane has gotten expensive, it costs $20 to fill up a 4.5 gallon tank including all taxes and fees.

I'll let you know, the christening is tonight, we are having a party to celebrate "nothing specific BYOB"

I would guess at full bore (2) 40lb tanks might last 6-8 hours??

Pretty cool, any plans to hide/camouflage the plumbing?

Yeah, everything on the front has gotten additional "moss rocks" epoxied down, but still able to R&R lines. On the back side are exposed, but ran in a nice clean way.

You still see 2 small portions of the SS gas lines, I ran out of mossy rock, I need to run back to the landscape place.

Not too well versed at all the WIFI "devices?" All of this runs off a 12VDC system, I found some 12vdc relay boards that operated off the "TUYA SMART HOME APP". Its compatible with google assistant and google home (I think??) thats the next step, move it to google home for access anywhere, (I think??) The literature made it sound way too easy and i could actually follow along with the instructions. I mounted my lighting control and these in SS enclosures which required external antennas. That narrowed the options of boards i could find. I have a bunch of 120V (TUYA) modules I am going to try and do my garage doors, gates, the exterior house soffit lighting, my christmas light outlets and whatever else I think of! It has been fun trying to figure it out, and the satisfaction when it worked was worth a few beers.

You can barely see the IPX1 jack for the antenna

I ran about 4 hours last night on what I would call "medium"?? used about one 40LB bottle so 8-9gallons, so 2-1/4ish gallons/hr @$5/gal=$11.25/hr

Not too bad for the occasional "get together"?? especially if you compare it to the cost of a handle of crown or a nice bottle of tequilla

Now you got me thinking, what is the cost of nat-gas for the hot tub/hr comparatively??

Awesome. 👍🏼

Google Home has some beta thing going on. You can use Gemini to write the code for it too, to make all kinna crazy things happen.

I haven't had time to try it out yet, but it looks pretty interesting...

(This is almost a year old now, so things have probably changed)

That is some pretty interesting stuff. You are miles ahead of me, writing script is above my pay grade.
I will say "home automation" definitely qualifies as a HUGE rabbit hole!

However this does give me another idea, there's this satellite I was thinking about launching🤔:D

Oh hell no...

You just Gemeni write the scripts, then have Google Home carry them out!

I haven't looked into it at all, other than watching some vids. But I Do have a ton of Google Home devices...

I want to make a scrip, to turn on the hallway lights, when the Nest t-stat sees me walk by, but it's pretty far down on my to-do list. 😜

Oh great now you’ve reinforced some bad ideas that I’ve had already. I’m certain I can do bodily harm and or property damage attempting a project like this.🤣

Looks Bitchin! 😎

I was thinking more along the lines of floating drunk hot dog pit, kickin it on the lounger, sombrero on, beer in one hand and a hot dog stick in the other.
Just a thought:)
… I like your thinking… and maybe a floating bar with mustard mayonnaise and relish… Then again maybe that’s a bad idea… Somebody jumps in the pool.., the floating bar goes upside down and you’ll be vacuuming relish out of the bottom of your pool for a while…🤷🏽‍♀️

Love the idea, I had drawn up a "rack" to put one of my coolers in that attached to side of the pool and would raise and lower into the pool for easy beverage access, then I realized the only thing keeping my buddies from peeing in the pool was the need to get put for another drink!!

Thank You,
When I was testing the burners and cranking them all the way up in the garage my wife pulled in the driveway, needless to say that was the end of playtime!.

She just got me this shirt

Oh hell...

Google Home will do that for you, with just the basic settings.

I think all my light switches are Kasa. I have em all set up automatically turn on at dusk, and turn off at 3am. Then I can voice activate em, on and off, and to whatever brightness I want with Google Home.

The Roomba is voice activated from Google Home.

All the TV's are voice activated from Google home.

Music/Spotify? iHeart radio? All voice activated.

I can see who's at the front door, on the TV's and Google displays.

The Rainbird timer? Yep. Connected to Google Home.

I have 21 different devices, all with the factory settings.

I was hoping you would figure the script thing. You know. In your spare time and shit?

😁

That's some impressive backyard engineering !

I could tell by glancing at the first photo in your original post this was gonna be way out of control. You met and surpassed all expectations.

😁

But seriously, it's some incredible work. Well done.

So you are deep in the home access control rabbit hole 🍻

I am supposed to be building an outdoor kitchen type building in the backyard this spring, probably now not until fall. Its gonna have power awnings, shades, shutters, TV lift, misting system, etc. If I actually get it done I will give the script thing a try! OR you may have it all figured put by then!!

You deserve to extremely Proud of that Far from a backyard project.👍
Thank You, pretty happy with how the whole backyard has turned out, now when mama gets mad I have a second option from the dog house. I'll just pour myself another one and pass out in my chair outside!
