P1416 CHEVROLET - Secondary Air Injection System Bank 2


Possible causes
  • Faulty Secondary Air Injection (AIR) pump
  • Secondary Air Injection check valve bank 2
  • Secondary Air Injection (AIR) pump electrical circuit fault
  • Blocked Secondary Air Injection (AIR) system

Got this code last night. Cleared it and it didnt come back.

Check valve maybe no good?

Your truck must be a 02 or earlier, they ditched that AIR system in 2003. The electric air pump is mounted on the passenger side firewall, you can follow the hose from the exhaust manifold over to it. When you first start the truck for the day (cold start) you should feel / hear that electric motor come on. That's the first place to check.

The electric air pump is mounted on the passenger side firewall, you can follow the hose from the exhaust manifold over to it. When you first start the truck for the day (cold start) you should feel / hear that electric motor come on. That's the first place to check.

Pull the check valve and try to blow through it , if you can’t , replace valve .

The check valves go bad all the time, if you find a bad one do them both...they are cheap. ;)

X2. Mine did on my '01. I changed both of mine and they are good now. Easy and cheap to do.
The check valves go bad all the time, if you find a bad one do them both...they are cheap. ;)

Easy fix. Pull the engine and put in a bigger one!
