21' Howard v-drive 29% C-500, blown 532 950hp 1" prop shaft. I have to replace this shaft, I'm thinking Aquamet 22.
Any input ?
Any input ?
Who hurt you Dennis ? Your just jealous cause you never been Blown in a station wagon. Stick to things you know, not things you BLOW !:rotflmao:keep the 1 in shaft . put a three blade prop and a wake board tower on and have fun with your family boat,( it will never be fast) kinda like building a blown station wagon.
That would be a good choice . that's pretty respectful hp out of a 532
how much boost.?
So what do these new prop shafts cost? I'm thinking of putting new one in mine while its apart.
Kmonel was 1200 the Aquamett 22 is about 500

Its back in it and the vibration was the rudder bearing and the PROP. Got it back from Wilmington Prop today, 1/4 out. It may go faster now !:moon:Hey, the shaft that was in it when you got it was a k-monel. what up?K-B it tough on equipment!![]()
If anyone is in need of Aq22 x 1 1/8 diameter give me a shout. I am overstocked and would like to get rid of a few for winter.
I have 14 ft double ended lengths and cut and key or just cut, to order.
1" I can't currently help on, out of stock for the moment.
What material should the 1/4" key at the prop be made of ? What about the coupler to V-drive, should that be case hardened ?You currently can't get good K-Monel, the good stuff used to come from Canada but since we have outsourced nearly all of our founding industry the K-Monel now comes from Italy, and as far as i'm concerned it's pure junk, i don't know if they are having a problem with their hardening process or if it's just the physical blend they are using, we got a piece that measured only C28 hardness on the Rockwell tester, it should be about C34-C36. We put one on a customers boat and the shaft bent and it cost the customer about $5k to reset the strut, do some glasswork, and put an Aquamet 22 shaft in it. Aquamet-22 rockwell's out to about C35 and has seemed to hold up pretty well.
The good old K-Monel shafts we liked better than the aquamet, they seemed to hold up to wear better at the strut... but the current ones are shit, go aquamet.
I can quote you on one and order it for you if you give me the length...

I ask because when I picked up my newly ballanced props they handed me brass key ways. That seems very soft for high HP. Any suggestions ?:blah:
Thats the knowledge I wanted to hear now what about the other end of the shaft ?:thumbsup
This ones in a C-500 its just coupler to coupler. Thats why I ? its strength.:blah:
