learned a while ago about ill get you the title later.Bought my daughters lt80 guy seemed legit i get there all is good pay he tells me he is middle of moving and cant find the title at the moment.Week later calls me says it must be lost but he has the forms to apply for a new title.Find out its not his name on the forms he had bought the quad never transferred it and lost the title.

Would be pain for me to do at dmv without the original owners signature and luckily i had a dmv guy with a hook up but he charged me a few hundred bucks to get it taken care of.

After this i will not bother with buying without a title on the spot.If a financed well go to the bank and work from there.too many scams out there these days

I bought my wife a new car in February. I paid it off in March. VW still can't for what ever reason send me the title.

I don't "need" the title any time soon as we keep cars until the paint peels, but what should I do?
Unfortunately, this is a DMV issue, unless you can prove the Dealer didn't send it in. Allot of dealers do there paperwork once or twice a month. So , it takes the time the dealer waits and the DMV time which can sometimes take months.

Where does the 2nd hand seller live?
North county, San Diego. I have Oceanside, and Vista addresses. I went to a place he rented in Carlsbad and left a note. Turns out he didn't live there anymore, but the owners gave him the message, because he texted me back very soon after that. He is playing cat and mouse with me, but I have all his info, and now have been calling and emailing his relatives. Hopefully I am enough thorn in his side to get him to act. I doubt it, but it's worth a try. "Squeaky wheel gets the grease"

Dumb question.

Would parting out a vehicle with a lien on it put you in a criminal situation in the event that they default on the payments?

Crappy situation but I can't imagine a bank being happy to find out they can't repo there property to be made whole in the event a vehicle isn't paid in full.

Honestly, Yes, If I willingly know the situation. Because, I would technically be stealing from the lienholder. The Bank owns them till the debt is paid.
If I lien sale them and take the bank out of the equation, then I can do what I want. The bank can make me whole and essentially buy them back if they are worth the balance of the debt, but most banks and insurance companies will not pursue this unless they have proof of a criminal action. This is a very small amount for them and very difficult to prove. I have all of my information in order. The only thing that might suck if I take legal action, is , I may have to voluntarily give them back to the bank and then go after the Resaler personally. This would screw his life up, but I'm not sure it would net me my return.

Not to hijack the OP thread, but I’m considering a KTM 300 for my son that’s out of state and the seller paid cash for but only has the MSO. Is this equal to a title?
I bought a boat and the trailer had an MSO, came from Florida and they don't register trailers. I just took it and trailer to DMV and simple was done.

good info.

There was a c8 corvette listed for sale on C10 sales Instagram the other day. Basically dirt cheap (25k with no damage) and it said you can't register it you would have to part it out as they still owed money on it. (Its since been deleted)

I was like WTF I'm pretty sure that's illegal in way more ways than 1...lol

I’ve bought test bikes and test SxS’s from magazines with only an MSO. It’s a pain in the ass beyond a title but it’s always worked out. Just takes a little effort.
Same situation. Would you please send me a PM if you did this in CA or AZ.

I bought a new SeaDoo Ski that had 2 hours from a private party, The wife went shopping and decided the family needed some water toys. Husband was not impressed so she had to sell them. I'd had bought one identical to the two they were selling. As part of the deal, they bought a 2 place Triton trailer. So, I bought one of ski's and traded the two place trailer for my one place trailer. Wrote up an agreement, contacted the finance company and made out the check to her AND the finance company. They were still on the hook for the one, but figured it would be easier to sell one than two,
I had the ski, she had a check that needed hers and the bank's sign off. Week later, she dropped the title off at my office. All clean and easy.

The missing title thing isn't the big issue. The lien is. I have bought plenty of shit without titles but they are all old enough that they wouldn't have a lien on them. A call to my dmv lady and she comes out and does the vin verification and paper work and I get a title in the mail in a few weeks. She is worth the 150.0 she charges not to have to deal with the DMV.
