Hey Guys,

My 2015 Quattroporte, I recently replaced the injectors (1 stuck open) and the battery was disconnected. Car has 20k miles. Like new.

Well now I cannot get the Catalyst Readiness monitor to be come "ready" to be able to pass a smog test so I can register it.

I have driven about 800 miles, done every sort of trick on the internet.

I know, just take it to AZ DMV, but I seriously cannot find the time right now to take the drive out there to get this done.

Is ti possible the stuck injector ruined the cats? When that happened I towed it, didn't run it like that.

It does have a mild tune. I spoke with tuner, Eurocharged, and that should have no effect on the readiness per them.

Where are my experts?

Thanks!

It needs to be driven. The computer needs to go thru a number of tests and that includes so many on off, and driving modes. After my battery on my Ferrari is disconnected, it needs approx 300miles of driving and X amount of start stops to reset everything.

Thanks, I know I went thru this crap on my Ferrari also. I don't think I ever got it to get ready and took it to my independant to figure out. LOL...

Maybe I should drive it to Havasu and check it right before I register it there. LOL

I have almost driven 800 miles, Not sure how many more needed, Crazy.

Needs to have multiple cold cycles. Meaning letting cool down less that X amount.

Last week I had to do a raptor and it needed 25 cool down cycles, lowering coolant temp to 150*. took forever.

Eurocharged can alter the tune to show readiness. I know they done this for me in the past with my mercedes stuff. Although if you have cats in place they shouldnt have to. Have you driven a long distance 100 miles plus in one stretch?

I will definitely ask them. I have not driven 100 miles straight, since I don't have plates I get a little concerned for an asshole cop.

I know that for some reason some cars take a long time to show readiness after a check engine light has been reset. Could really be nothing wrong with the car. It just sometimes takes a while to show readiness, I found several short trips won’t do it sometimes and just a decent hour to two hour drive takes care of the problem.

Man you have some good taste....lol

I have been around a couple Quattroporte's and they have all had serious issues.

100K cars that sell for 30K when they are 4 years old scare the shit out of me.:eek:o_O
You may be thinking of the pre 2013 versions? Mine is the GTS with the 488 Twin Turbo. Has been rock solid besides replacing the fuel rails, a known issue and that part was superseded 3 times by Ferrari. My previous was a Gran Turismo, not one issue at all. My 360 was a maintenance hog, but nothing worse then my boats:)

Having a good independent or doing work yourself is key. I do most everything myself when possible. I kind of enjoy it, like finding the parts that are equivelant without the italian tax. For instance, my alarm siren was 500$ from Ferrari, the corvette one is exact Bosch one, 28$!

My car listed new for 168k sticker. Just crazy.

You can always pay the fee for registration and get an extension for the smog test

Was thinking about that also. I would dread putting that pink month paper on my car though! 😂 And for some reason it doesnt ready itself we have a big problem.

Can you not pay the registration so it's not late? smog it when it's ready and they will mail you the stickers.

A cop will know it's paid, I would try to pay it online to see if they take your money.

Doubtful.. lol. Seriously though can’t roll exotics in Havasu. Nobody here works on them.. I hated giving up my Bugatti 😢
Most of the stuff can be done by ones self Dave. They are just cars! ;) You havent lived till you tore the whole dash off your Ferrari to replace the dash vents or the whole interior to do the timing belts thru the access port. Its pretty fun actually.

But at the end of the day, we know the saying, "If it Flys, Fucks or Floats, its cheaper to rent!"

Also hot cold cycles where the ecu needs to see the engine come fully up to operating temp, then back down to below some ambient threshold. It needs like somewhere between 3 and 5 times usually.

I have an old dodge dakota that a couple times ive had to replace the battery right before smog, on that on top of the hot cold cycles it needs like 15 miles of driving above 50mph, but below 65 and that clears the monitor for smog.

Such a pain in the ass.

A 360 was about $150k new. They tanked during the recession and coming out of it too.

I remember my DM bought a 360 Challenge Stradale in 09 for like $80k, and MSRP on those was over $200k just a few years before.

There is much confusion with very few actual facts posted here. There is no "magic", all the OBD2 test requirements are the same.

Setting monitors is the same for every manufacturer, it checks threshold values and watches for completion of it's parameters.

Do you have a factory tool or comparable to monitor the data stream from the O2 sensors, able to see pre-pending codes, understand what monitors have to complete in what order to set your cat monitors?

Some of the systems only allow you to set the monitor if very specific thresholds are followed. IE drive at no more than 55mph for 15min without going over the 55 mph. Then after that stop and wait for 4 minutes at idle afterwards to see catalytic converter O2 soak and ability to absorb HC after an extended period of idle.

Straight up wackness since the majority can be passed by a quick freeway run at any speed as long as it's 20 miles or so, a few side streets and a few longer mid speed (30mph) coasts down a long blvd and bam they are all set.

Honestly , if they don't set quickly, and you actually KNOW the parameters to follow, just reset the whole system again and try it over.

Reset any car back to it's base settings by disconnecting both battery terminals and touching the two cables together for 30 seconds to clear the CMOS chips. Try this first.

HMU if you want to chat about it more.

I had a Honda Civic one time that would not pass readiness , no codes pending , everything perfect . Turned out a critter chewed through only 1 wire , the keep- alive memory wire to the ECU !

Yes.. kill me now.

430 Scuds are bad ass. That would be my choice too. I have always liked the 430s.

Ed Bolian wants to swap his to a gated manual at some point
Not sure how well you guys may follow “Normal Guy Supercar” Dave on youtube. They started selling the conversion kits. 20k or so and gated. If I had the 360 still that would be a no brainer!

Funny part is I bought my Masi from Loper who is always on the channel. Thats how I found it was for sale. He has a bad ass collection and thats why this car already was done all the way perfect. Coilovers, Tune, Corrected and Ceramic, Carbon Fiber all over. Made it an easy choice

I’m always up for drooling over some nice cars. However, I must warn you the last time I was at that dealership the front desk lady gave me such a dirty look I didn’t even bother walking through the doors. I must not scream Ferrari material lol!

I don’t doubt it, I have a buddy who lives in PV that knows a few people with some big collections. One of the regulars at the PV cars and coffee has a f430 Spider that his Labrador rides shotgun in.

Here is our analog car. Actually I should say, here is my wife’s car. We’ve had it since 1999. But she wants to sell it now. She doesn’t drive it much and is ready to let it go.

needs to be driven at 40-70 (55mph middle sweet spot) for at least 10 minutes. most modern cars dont need multiple drive cycles for the CAT monitor ready to be completed. Thats usually the EVAP purge which in CA isnt a requirement for smog anymore. You can go to smog with that monitor INC.

I ran into a similar situation a few months back.
A few months before this, I had some work done at the dealer. Evidently they pulled the battery.

Truck needed inspection, but came back “not read” which was puzzling since it had been at least a month and quite a few miles.

Guy starts accusing me of resetting my computer to hide the CEL, says to put 500 miles on it and come back so he can fix the real issue. Says I could get in serious trouble blah blah, was a total dick about it.

I googled “drive cycle Chevrolet” and followed the instructions:

Went back the next day, probably all of 20 miles were put inn it, told the guy to inspect it now, he wouldn’t even look at me in the eye LOL

Always loved reading about Ferraris.

It is like having a wife who is a bi-polar, psychotic, nymphomaniac Victoria Secret lingerie model, in a drug rehab program, with multiple personalities, that you happen to fall in love with. Meaning that it can be a tremendous pain in the ass at times, but you know you can't live without it. So you just deal with the various wacked out incidents that happen.
