I have a couple Maglites that I love but they use standard D cell batteries that always seem to be dead or near it when I need them. I found rechargeable batteries on Amazon but I'd have to have two sets, one for the light and then a spare set to swap out when the others die.

Maglite does make rechargeable flashlights but just wondering if there are better options. I like the cylindrical lights because I can tuck them under my arm and still use both hands plus there is always the ability to thump someone if I have to!:D

I'd like the 12V version so I can keep them in my vehicles and boat.

One of the major issues with modern flashlights losing charge is the use of an electronically controlled button. If your light has a button that is a momentary and cycles through dim modes, then even when the light is off it is drawing power to keep the controller listening for a button "push". Leave the batteries out of the light, or the back cap off the light when not in use.

The flashlights sold by battery companies are notorious for this, esp the 'Duracell' ones.

Flashlights that have a single mode sometimes still have a real mechanical switch. Easiest way to tell is to turn the light on, then remove the cap&battery with the light still on, wait a few seconds, put it back together, if the light stays on it's a mechanical switch, if the light goes back to off mode, then it's electronic and a battery killer over time.

just about any rechargeable that takes the "18630" battery (IIRC) and the highest lumen output you can find. 1000+
Literally hundreds on amazon.

.

THIS X 2.
After I figured this out, I cut up an old credit card into pieces that would fit under the rear cap of all the 'electronic' switch lights I have (including a couple of Duracell)

Problem fixed..... No more dead batteries (after taking out the plastic chip) when you need the light :)

Fenix is good for sure.

I've had Streamlights at work for decades (hardly use it at all theses days).

Every flashlight I use now is from Nitecore. They are the only ones that can take the constant abuse I put them through.

They also make their own batteries and chargers. So you get everything in one place.

Quality products.

I started using Surefire in 2006 and haven't had any luck with anything else. Streamlight didn't work for me and as a matter of fact, there are 2 lifeless flashlights laying in the drawer as we speak. Hahaha! Yes Surefire is expensive but you get what you pay for. That's all I buy anymore.

I have a 20v Dewalt cordless light and really like it. I know it's a different style but it is a nice piece.

I have used Fenix & Streamlight handheld for years and highly recommend them. But, Anymore I prefer to throw on LedLensor headlamp with focusable beam which rival handheld flashlights for distance and duration, yet leave your hands free. I always buy lights that will operate at max setting throughout the night(8+hrs) on single charge or single set batteries.

Fenix makes a USB rechargeable one, right around 1000 lumens

I have a few of the non-rechargeable Mag lights that always sucked. I did the cheap LED light bulb swap (like $10.00 on ebay) and the difference is AMAZING!! Super bright (as bright at the rechargeable Mag-lights) Plus the batteries last FOREVER because the LED draws minimal current. I had 4 rechargeable lights that needed now batteries and bulbs. Contacted Mag-light and wanted to send them in for an LED retro fit but they were going to be $100.00 each for the re-fit. I'm like, forget it, I'll just buy something else. Pitched them in the trash a couple weeks ago.

Might want to do the cheap LED bulb upgrade. Cheap and easy fix.

But I also have a pelican for work. It's a nice light. Compact, holds a charge, super bright.
