They are the same thing..but, these are the ultimate snow machines...total fucking blast. Basically the same comparison of a sit down jet ski vs a stand up. One takes skill and the other allows any 12 yr old girl to ride it.
LOL@ some of posts on this..Heres what i know. For YEARS a friend of mine spoke of the "snowmobile/snowmobiling" How it was absolutely the most incredible experience EVER.For years i was all "whatever dude" Not name dropper.Ive ridden dirt with some world class riders.Held my own.Done MikesSkyRanch bunch of times..Dirt riding after it rains may be on of the most awesome natural highs ever.Until i tried snowmobiling.ITS THE SHIT!!! Also when u fall? Its a shit ton more forgiving..lol Polaris makes some rocketships. There is nothing close to the exhilaration riding right after a big dump of powder.Nothing remotely close...

One of the biggest regrets in my life is not taking it up sooner.btw Not me in pic.Thats a "trail bitch" LOLI tell everyone that riding sleds is hands down the most fun I have ever had or continue to have....Folks have no clue.
btw Ive never heard the term "snow machine" in reference to snowmobiling..

Sleds
That really isn't true. Those conversions are in some ways easier because it is easier to roll the machine over and get it on the edge. As far as traditional sleds yes a 12 year can ride it without much effort but put them in the trees in 4 feet of powder up hill and they won't make it 5 feet, riding like this takes lots of skill.
Boy o boy, I guess!![]()

I've never seen a 12 yr old girl ride a snow bike, have you?.....there is a reason for that.
Have you ever seen anyone ride one? I have been going for years and never actually seen one anywhere but the dealership. Besides that was not my point, I was just saying riding a traditional sled isn't as easy as it seems unless you stick to groomed trails. Yes I tried one at a dealer sponsored test day.
Don't know on the bike thing but as far as sleds go, Definetly not easy to get unstuck. I used to ride them at the ski resort I worked at. After getting one stuck one time I quickly figured out that you gotta keep them wicked when you hit the powder. Snow mobiles were a ton of fun though. Powersliding on the groomed was fun too

I have wondered that as well. It is the Alaska shows that they say that.
A "snow machine" should make snow...as a "copy machine" make copies, or a "coffee machine" makes coffee.
I have a lot of friends who sold their sleds and have snowbikes now....Snowbikes are growing fast in Idaho for a reason. They are defintely two different animals no question about that. I have ridden both the Timbersled and the 2moto. I prefer the TS. Maybe I like the snowbikes because I ride dirtbikes and not quads....One has training wheels and one doesn't.
Interesting...All I did was mess around for a few min in a field. Do you counter steer a snowbike or lean more like a dirtbike or both like a sled?
I see snowbikes all over the place now. I have a lot of friends who sold their sleds and have snowbikes now....Snowbikes are growing fast in Idaho for a reason. I prefer the TS maybe because it was on a spankin new 2014 KX 450 vs a 2012 Honda 450. Maybe I like the snowbikes because I ride dirtbikes and not quads....One has training wheels and one doesn't. Total fucking blast! Can't wait to ride the KTM 300.
Screw it...I'm taking my sandmachine to the dunes![]()
I sure wish machine guns made more guns!!![]()
