Just got a quote from SDI for right about $2k and local to me…Weller is about $1500 but in Arizona so would have to pack up and ship…

Leaning towards SDI now
Have you had SDI do yours yet? Mine need to go back to Weller for springs after hanging so much weight off the back. The car handles much better than stock but I want it as good as it can be.

I have not, it will probably be a summer time thing, but thats one of the reasons I am going to go with SDi, just becauase they are local to me, so if something needs to be adjusted or redone down the road, its an easier process.

Nice..

I’m running a Turbo S take off as a spare. Now that you have a spare, you will never get a flat.

I’m interested to hear if this improves the ride of the car.

I almost got my car out for a ride today.
I was actually going to just get a stock wheel and hopefully a tire, found this one on FB marketplace for $100, not an exact match but close enough…

The plan is to get the suspension done by SDI before our first trip out…so hopefully it gets sorted out

Can you post detailed pictures of your tablet mount. We have found that we’re using the map ap and handheld is not the way to go.
Nothing real fancy, cheap Amazon mount, screwed to the dash plate behind the passenger grab handle….holds pretty tight, even with all the bouncing this thing endured, the tablet didn’t budge.

Got around to installing the lift struts for the spare tire mount, the struts that came with the kit were designed to attach to bars on the side of tire mount like this:
IMG_7392.jpeg

But mounting them that way interferes with my storage box, so reversing the main clamp so it’s more pointed towards the inside of the car, bought some shorter struts that I then mounted on that crossbar section of the spare tire mount, now it works perfectly, storage box fits, and it opens and closes super easily.

Thanks, shocks should be going to SDI soon....still trying to figure out how to hold the car up while the springs are out getting serviced....

Sticks of 3/4” or 1” EMT conduit. Cut to shock ride height length, drill the ends, bolt them in place of shocks. Then you can move the car around if needed.

Your car just has the QSI Fox shocks, correct? They are like 3 or 5 position adjusters?
3 position, stiff, more stiff, and stiffest...lol...I talked to the guys at SDi today when I dropped them off, and they told me that Honda WAYYY oversprung the Talon for some reason....he said most sxs, they are usually having to stiffen up the suspension some, but with the Hondas they have to soften it considerably...

That’s right they are QS3 shocks.

Yes they are like pogo sticks stock from what the owners I know of have said. I have never been in a stock one.

I think you’ll be good with the long wheelbase and the extra weight in the back.

I’m hoping this will dramatically change the ride, we will see I guess

Very nice! Can you expand on the camera deal. Like what camera, app to connect... I want to do the same but not sure where to begin, I've read mixed reviews on some of the bluetooth setups. thanks and enjoy your trip!

Awesome. Interested to hear how it works now.

What's the difference with one of the Schrader valves on the front shocks?

Camera is a cheap Amazon Wi-Fi Rearview cam, the app is called Joytrip, so far it’s been good, I have been using it to see people behind me in our group ride.

Install was pretty easy, although I wouldn’t try to pair it to your phone if you have other Wi-Fi devices set up on it, seems to work better on a dedicated device.

I actually wanted Schrader valves on all of them, but Jason at SDI said they leak and not to do them, but then he was having trouble setting one of their caps and had to use a standard schrader so it could be done for this trip, when I come home I’m dropping the whole car at the shop for them to fix that and fine tune it with my feedback fro this week.

So far though, total night and day difference, the car is actually fun to drive now, I even got the wife to agree that the money was well spent, and she hates any dollar I put into it…lol

Good to hear. I bet it will perform so much better. Turn those knobs and see what it can do!

Their dual adjusters on the Walker shocks on my RZR made a huge improvement in ride and performance. They fixed every complaint I had with the stock style setup.

Yeah Jason gave me his personal cell phone number and said to call or text him with any concerns and he would walk me thru any adjustments I can do on my own…so far though no complaints, chatter bumps are gone, can’t even feel them anymore versus previously feeling like my brain was gonna rattle out

So my wife wants me to put a windshield on this car....I am not sure how they work in the really dusty conditions we ride in...for Glamis I would be all for it...but I am afraid a windshield in the dust is just going to make vision even worse...

I rather spend that money on an exhaust system, mostly just for looks, I cant stand that looks of the huge ass muffler it has on it now..really like the look of this setup

Glass windshield is great. I just keep I micro fiber cloth in the door bag and wipe at each stop or as needed.

Not sure if @dspracing makes one for the Honda but that’s what I have on my RZR and it’s been great for 2 years. Ocotillo and Parker mainly.

Use the rain x water repel - add 2-3 Good coats, don’t use any washer cleaner after installing

both sides inside & outside, keeps the static electricity off or what ever and dust / dirt/ mud doesn’t stick to it

just a quick dust off w/ a micro fiber

been using this for 5-6 years, works great even without a windshield wiper

Picture the end of the day, with sun on the horizon, and you're driving into it...

With a dirt covered windshield. Been there done that.

Yeah no, just no. 😜

The windshield is great!

but
if you wear helmets you don’t really need it.

I run headsets in Az and love the windshield!

a few runs I wear my helmet/ blower and I get warm - not enough wind flow

went on a ride w/ a buddy that didn’t have a windshield and it was better w/ the helmet only. But No where near as good w/ only headsets

Wife wanted a full windshield at the end of the year. We were concerned about dust build up as EVERYONE expressed this is the biggest drawback. Well things snowballed and after a substantial amount of $$$$ she got the windshield. We went with a custom unit with laminated glass. We went out last weekend for a couple of rides. First was with 6-7 cars. We were in the middle of the pack. After 6 hours in the dirt the vision was not affected one biT. I did clean it th enext morning before our ride to the Bunker Bar. That was a solo run to and from the North side of town. Again not much build up on the glass. I did bring micro fibers incase there is a need to clean in the middle of a ride. It did cut a bit of the cold and dust in the eyes. The wife still wore googles as she was a bit concerned with dust in her eyes.

The wife is happy so the money was well spent. 👍

What an awesome thread. Learning things I didn't really need to know and that's a good thing.
I'm sure I'll ruffle some feathers but my take...
Ocotillo Wells / Ocotillo a few bits of my 30+ years jeeping and riding that place. Anza used to be open riding back in the day. :(

I have learned some of this the hard way.;)

1. You have State Park and Federal Land. Kind of good to know where your at. East of the 86 and S. of the 78 is Feds. Stay away from homesteads.
2. Seems fun to ride through water especially in the washes. Its like riding in the salt water at Pismo except 10x more corrosive. We bring a 100 gal water tank and a pressure wash and clean that shit immediately which may be against the rules. Do so when you get home 1st thing. "Its just mud" oh OK.
3. If you have a slow moving Jeep (me) don't go cruise a 3:00 pm. As it turns out there are 10,000 Robby Gordons all in a line waiting to educate you of their distaste. They seem to wake up around 3 pm. LOL.
4. If your on the 4x4 Proving grounds side and want the Pumpkin Patch or Shell Hill learn the path around the top and avoid the cluster fuck, cant see shit, congestion.

Lastly....Riding down to the Sea's Edge....
5. Do it except...Park on hard pack and walk down and when you cant walk anymore its to late. Everywhere you step is likely false. Getting pulled out can turn into an all night affair so beware. The corrosive disaster that will ensue will be endless. Learned the hard way maybe 20 years ago.
6. Pole Line is extremely dangerous when dusted out. Some top 60+ on the road in the dust soup. The Rangers will often sit in washes and bust you so be aware of it.
Shell Hill route can be even worse especially riding into the setting sun.

Ride early morning on big weekends until about noon. Then we ride west and pick up a trail that takes us up and over S2 into Truckhaven. Likely nobody over there.
Spend the evenings enjoying the Proving grounds. Some think its stupid but I like it over there.

Lots of good points, we ride with a group of dirtbikes and utvs....for the saftey of the dirtbike riders we try to stay off the main trails and washes as much as possible...Poleline Rd, Shell Reef Expressway, Gas Dome Trail, Cahuilla Trail, and Tule Wash are all no go for us, we stay off those completely.

We wear helmets, I really dont want to deal with a windshield, I am trying to get her to get an air pumper helmet, but some other wife with a windshield told her how great it was not having the dust in the car, so now shes stuck on that...

Mine was the opposite she didn’t want it at all! I wanted the windshield for the cold night rides that my wife’s doesn’t normally go on. Either way we’re both now very happy with the windshield.

Gotcha…..Well let me tell you and you can pass it along to your wife. The windshield does NOT keep dust out of the car. The car is just as dirty as always Even with windshield. It only keeps the volume of wind and cold air down. 👍

I will also guarantee there will still be dust in the car. It’s brutal and I have a windshield with lower vents to help cut down on the station wagon effect. It’s way better than without a windshield for me but I also didn’t have helmets.
