I am in the midst of upgrading my kids ranger 150 / which is the same platform as the Ace 150.

I have read online where a couple of guys have done a sprocket change from a 16 tooth drive sprocket to a 12 tooth.

I found where a guy made the change and have a picture. Does anyone know where you can get these sprockets / chain?

That said I also feel like the clutch is slipping on ours.. When I first got it, it would dig tires into the ground going up a hill and now the clutch slips..

So I am looking for an upgraded clutch of some
Sort.

One would think owning a forum I’d be a Jedi in the ways of google and searching but I digress.. I am not.

Don't know the answer. but that seems like a pretty drastic change. over 30%. i would think a 14 might be a good start.
and if clutch is already slipping a 30% reduction at low end won't help...

The clutch slipping is recent and I believe has to do with adults... well maybe being a little irresponsible. Lol

I wouldn’t mind buying a 14 & a 12 to see which is best. I am putting larger wheels and tires on it and have read others jumping to 12 tooth (even with the stock tires) and having great results. None of them share where they got the damn sprockets though. Lol.

This YamahaSHO guy is going kinda next level.. on his ace and where I got the pic from.

That thread is about the only real information I have found on the web regarding this.

I don't know how the centrifugal stuff works...if it isn't seeing enough load it will slip more? I know in "normal" stuff, it increases the mechanical advantage, making it less stress on clutch surfaces.

I agree though, that sprocket change seems like a big jump. It would turn it into a short course deal. Seems like it would lay over pretty quick.

Looks like a 520 O-ring chain. I'd pull the chain and sprockets off and take them to a motorcycle shop, the counter guys should be able to figure out what they match up to. If your clutch is already slipping, bigger tires and a 12 will kill it right away.

Stupid question but are all these sprockets pretty universal? In terms of where the large one is bolted to the carrier that drives the axle? Aswell the drive sprocket has a kinda “keeper” bolted to it? I don’t mind making adapters etc..

Different mfgr's have different bolt patterns, take them to a shop to match them up.

Here is a clutch kit

Here is a tuner

Still looking for sprocket and chain. From what I have seen the 2019 and 2020 RzR170 has 12/32 sprockets. Going from a 16 to a 12 sprocket is a lot of gear change if you ask me.

Huh, I just realized, I guess, that chain is sized like AN. Broken down in eighth's.
All these years since being a kid, and I never knew what the numbers stood for.

The 520 chain is the standard Chain used on everything from a 450 dirt bike to a 1000cc sport bike. Every bike shop or Amazon will have em. Just get a chain breaker tool to be able to make the correct length. As for the sprockets, buy a new front sprocket, “drive” sprocket one tooth smaller and see how it runs. 1 tooth on the drive sprocket will equal 3-4 on the driven sprocket. And they are cheap as well.

The clutch kit is for the larger Aces.. not the 150.

I read the reviews on that chip deal the other night and I’m not convinced.

DynoJet makes a legit tuner for them which is the direction I’ll go when we get that far.. finding a tune though is another problem.

Any of your local bike shop should be able to get the sprocket and chain for you they are readily available through Western Power Sports, parts unlimited, tucker rocky, ect. Or just type in "rzr 150 chain and sprocket kit"

The clutch on those are a 3 shoe style clutch. I have done a bunch of clutch work on them in the LT80's, Polaris 90's, ect. You can machine the shoes to lighten them up and change the little springs in them.

@RiverDave

You could lighten them up a bit, then drill and tap them for set screws to make them adjustable by adding/deleting set screws.

That final drive change is HUGE from a 16 to a 12. Are they also changing the sprocket on the axle too? How much bigger are the tires you plan to run?

Found a supplier on the sprockets and chain

THx @LHCBOY!

if anyone else is planning on changing gearing on one of these Lance has been extremely helpful!

Turns out the stock chain isn’t a 520 like listed above. It is a 530.

he is helping me do a conversion to 525 change and I’ll end up with a 14/13/12 drive sprockets with an anodized aluminum rear sprocket that is 39.

You know Dave, your kids are ready for one of them fast X3's or RZR's in short order.
Same happened to me, I was upgrading my daughters ride near the end of one riding season and by time the next season started she was taking moms Banshee.

Chris Griner’s daughter is already driving his big SxS.. she’s 8. Lol

being I have two younger than Sierra (8) and she isn’t exactly “grace” when it comes to things like this, I think this thing is gonna be around for quite awhile..

If not the worlds nicest ranger 150 will get sold down the road at some point.. or it will get a turbo and a long travel.

Either way it’s getting built and ready. :)

Dave, If you haven't found anything yet, consider going with a 630 chain and sprockets. I built a small car for my boys when they were younger that used a similar setup and I started out with it using a 520 chain and it would not last more than 1 or 2 trips and it would be worn out. I switched over to the 630 and had no more problems.

My 8 year old daughter can’t operate the pedals in my RZR, and she is tall!

No shit? The stock chain is a 530 and it's pretty monsterous looking to me compared to my old quad chains etc.. Which had a hell of a lot more HP than this has.

When it comes to chains. Ya get what ya pay for. Go with a GOOD 520 “ super bike” chain. The tensil strength is about 3 times that of a cheapie eBay chain. An X ring chain with be pretty much Maintenance free and last a very long time. 200 plus HP superbikes run these. I run them on everything from dirt bikes to superbikes and they last for years.

Better buy chain in bulk. That small sprocket short-run chain it's going to wear out fast.

Wow I just noticed stock is a 16t and you want to go to a 12t? That is a HUGE jump. But if that's what it takes.. I would personally go up as many as possible in the rear and drop as little as possible in the front just so it's not so hard on chains, will also free up some hp cutting down on chain bind.

Rule of thumb is 3t in the rear is equal to 1t in the front

The car is over at the fab shop right now getting built. Theyare going to be putting on the middle gear (I ordered three) while they are doing the rest of the work. I don’t expect to have it back for four to five weeks.. I told them to take their time because it’s so hot out my kids aren’t riding it anyways.

sorry wish I had more information foryou

I always thought that O-ring chains for the sand was never a good idea. sand gets in, and gets stuck.... =chain wear....... I dunno.
