What's everyone drinking tonight?

I'm sipping on some Don Fulano high proof blanco. At 100 proof, it has a punch, but is very smooth with lots of agave and pepper. I like to drink this one over a big ice cube, and for me this is one of the easiest drinking high proof blancos out there.

A little mezcal, fresh squeezed orange and simple syrup. Delicious.

Watched a few YouTube videos about different tequilas recently, decided to try these two:

Mijenta Reposado

G4 Blanco:

Both of these tequilas are awesome and different in their own way.

Tonight’s selection, View attachment 1189235 where do I start?
Nice collection. Do you have a local liquor store with a good selection of tequilas?

There are many high quality, additive-free tequilas out there that will change your world if you enjoy agave spirits.

I high recommend anything from El Tesoro, Caschuin, Fortaleza, or G4 as a start

G4 blanco is so good. I have a couple of bottles bunkered because I can't always find it.

I haven't tried anything from Mijenta, but it's traditionally made and additive free with great reviews. I have been meaning to pick up a bottle to try it out

The G4 is my favorite to shoot. Its so crisp, especially cold. I've been getting it from Chips Liquor.

The Mijenta is amazingly smooth. Its sort of caramelized and goes great in the grapefruit/citrus Paloma's I make.

I haven't gone for the Clase Azul stuff because of the sweeteners and additives.

Also need to branch out into more Mezcals, I'm not even sure where to start there.

Grabbed two new bottles from a newer spot in Corona today. It’s a higher end liquor store called Happiest Ours. They also bring booze/bartend events. Prices are about 5% higher than our favorite well stocked/knowledgeable liquor store in Corona. This place knows their liquor too.

The two bottles are:

- La Gritona Reposado
- Cabal Reposado

The La Gritona is very interesting. It smell very mineral/pine (not sure if that’s industry speak). Drinks closer to a blanco than an anejo. Super smooth. Even wife said it was better neat.

The Cabal Reposado is amazing. It’s got a very mild sweetness but I can’t find online if it’s additive free. Guy at the store claimed Cabal grows their agave to have a 40%-ish higher sugar content than the average agave grower. This one is also better neat vs. a block of ice.

All the wife will drink. I don’t care how good it is. I can’t do tequila. 🤮🤮
Have you tried any well-made, additive-free tequilas? Patron, Casamigos, Clase Azul, etc are not quality tequilas, but they have great marketing and put a high price on mediocre tequila to give the impression that it's high end.

If you are going to be at the ski race this year, I'll bring some good stuff for you to try. If you don't like what I bring, agave might not be your drink.

I have tried some high end stuff. It all tastes the same to me. That 1942 is supposed to be pretty good. Wife likes it. Like I said, all she drinks really. It ain’t cheap! I’ve had the clase azul, tears of Lorona. Seriously. It all tastes the same to me. Can’t do it.

Won’t be at the ski race. But do appreciate the offer to make me sick. lol 😉😁👍

You hope. That's funny.

That's the best T I've ever had. 👍🏼👍🏼

I WAS not a tequila drinker before this bottle. That bottle was $165 here in FL. I liked it so much I have bought more. It is also the best I have had. I have tried a few other anejo's and I like them much better than reposado's. I have even considered switching from my beloved bourbon to Anejo's as my drink of choice.

Tears of Llorona is usually what I'll give to bourbon guys to show what a quality aged tequila can taste like.

If you've tried all of those and don't like any of them, then I'd say that agave just isn't for you. I'm hoping to get to Havasu a few times this summer, maybe our schedules will align eventually.

This is one of my current favorites 👍 Tasty with soda water and lime.
Tequila with soda water and lime is my go to cocktail. I usually use blancos for it and sometimes will add a splash of ginger beer.

I haven't tried Fletcha Azul yet, but it gets better reviews than most of the celebrity tequilas. Here are some good repos at a similar price point if you are looking to try some different ones. If you haven't been to Trevor's on Mayo, they have a great selection of Tequilas. These are all good enough to drink neat or with ice.

Thanks for the suggestions! I'll definitely give them a try. Tequila/soda is my go-to as well now for the past year or so. I seem prefer repos, but enjoy the blancos and anejos as well. Lots to learn!

We have similar taste. I prefer the additive free tequilas as well. Nice to be able to drink cocktails all night and not wake up with a headache. I prefer blanco but do have a few Repo's and Anejos.

Here's my list:

Budget Friendly (less than $50.00):
Tres Agaves Organic
Tequila Ocho
Tapatio (has to be my faovrite currently) They also have a high proof that I enjoy.
Cimmaron (for mixing cocktails)

Nicer bottles ($50.00-$100.00):
Cascahuin
Fortaleza
Mijenta
G4 - another great high proof as well
El Tesoro

Those are all good ones and I agree. I usually have Arette blanco or 3Amigos blanco for cocktails and am happy with them. I really like G4 but haven't tried their high proof blanco yet. The 2024 G4 madera blanco (yellow label) just came out and is a limited run, so grab a bottle if you see it anywhere.

Here are some of what I am working through currently

If you haven't been to Trevor's, go check it out. They have a great tequila section and usually have some bottles open to taste before you buy. They also have food and a full service bar, golf, etc....

I just bought a bottle of Ocho at Costco this week. Personally I didn't care for it straight. Very smooth on the tongue but very hot on my nose. Maybe I will try it again tomorrow afternoon with some food and over ice.

Thought I would revive this thread...

A few, good, zero additive tequilas I've tried recently:

Mijenta Anejo
G4 Repo, Anejo, and Extra Anejo
Don Fulano Anejo and Extra Anejo
Codigo Extra Anejo
Tequila Ocho Extra Anejo
Fortaleza Winter Blend

Got a limited edition bottle waiting at the store for pick up, I'll post that one once I get to try it.

to Vallarta a couple weeks ago and one stop on a tour we took was a Tequila drinking class. Learned a lot about how to sip it. That's where the bottle of Noble Corazon came from. It's pretty good. Of course we have the usual lower tier stuff like Cazadores, 1800,Altos

All good stuff! I haven't been able to get any of the Fortaleza Winter Blends, but it's supposed to be amazing. I was able to score a bottle of Fortalez anejo but haven't tried it yet.

The G4 Madera is really good - It has the beige label on it, and if you see it make sure you pick up a bottle. It used to be a limited release but I think they've increased their capacity for Madera and now it's getting easier to find. G4 might be my favorite Tequila all around.

The Fortaleza Winter Blend hits retail stores at like $500. I don't know that I care for that price point in my life yet, maybe ever 😂 I was lucky enough to try it at a random liquor/wine store with a cool little bar in St. Louis. I think it was $16 for a half shot. Probably never seeing that price again.

Fortaleza hasn't been one of my favorites for blanco, repo, or anejo. I do have a still strength Los Abuelos that a coworker gifted me. It's Fortaleza's brand in Mexico. Bottles are identical.

G4 is an awesome brand. I usually don't go for blancos but I'll have to try the Madera.

When I first got into good tequila (not that long ago), Fortaleza blanco was easily available on the shelf for around $40, and that was probably the first good blanco that I tried. I had a bottle of still strength and liked it, but to be honest that was one of my first good bottles and I didn't really have a lot of experience with different tequilas to fully appreciate it at the time. Fortaleza has since gone crazy and now a blanco is around $100 if you can find it. I like all of their stuff, but at that price point there are lot of other good options. The Winter Blend used to be around $250, and as you said it's around $500 now which is too much for me. I spent around $300 for a bottle of Tears of LLorona and that's amazing to me.

The G4 Madera is fermented in wood tanks, but not aged so it is still technically a blanco. Fermenting in the wood tanks makes it drink more like a repo to me and I really like it. I'm seeing more of it in stores so perhaps they really are increasing their production.

If you like repos, try Wild Common - It's made by Cascahuin which I think competes with Nom1579 (G4, etc) for the top distillery. It's been my favorite repo for the last year or so and isn't that hard to find.

If you're really into Tequilas, Bartender Lui Fernandes on youtube is definitely worth learning from.
