We are poking around the idea of a decent size class C MH and looked at this Thor. Based on a F-450 chassis it looks good. Problem is we know nothing about quality of these things. What can I learn from the RDP brain trust?

Thanks

No personal experience buts lots of conversation on rv sights. Thor has questionable quality

Mediocre quality. Look at the roof seal, tub/shower seal and fridge.

I have had a couple of the Thor Class C with very good luck.
1. Make sure you get the six speed trans it makes a huge difference.

The nice thing about the Class C the drive train is really solid from Ford. The RV side is ok quality about the same as my Winnebago.
If you can find one with two air units on top that would be nice but they are rare.

I would buy another one!!!!!

Might be in the market for a small entry level-ish class C as well. Would love some input.

The nice thing about the Class C is there is a normal cab with no sun beating down on you. You have power windows, door locks and air bags if needed.

The coil springs upfront ride much better than leaf springs on the Class A gas RVs. I have a 2017 Thor 24ft and it drives nice and has plenty of power.
The coach is pretty simple with only one bedroom slide. We have a one air unit on top which will keep it cool above 100 with no problems. Our windows were factory tinted but I put in a light tint to stop the sun heat. These small Class C RVs are great for short trips. We just got back from Scottsdale for 4 nights and we have plenty of room even with our granddaughter who loves sleeping up top. I am sold on the propane refrigerator because it is simple and we do not need AC power to keep it cool.

We like the room in the 28Z but if we want to get into Hanna Flats campground in big bear, they discourage anything over 26’. I need to figure out a balance between the small camp area accessibility and the room of a more long term trip unit.

Any experiences there?

Yes the 28Z has a lot of room but it is 30ft long. There is always a balance on these things. We find that we like to go from point to point and not stay too long in any RV park. Most RV parks are kind of like parking lots with gravel.

Check out the Forest River Foresester 2501TS. Has 3 slides and provides the room of a larger RV and will meet the 26 ft. challenges in many state parks. Used ours for last 5 years and liked the layout of having 2 doors (master to living quarters) separating us and the kids, a separate urinal/shower from sink so that others can get ready while shower or toilet is occupied, insulated ceiling/headliner keeps in the cool or heat, 4500 Ford Chassis with 6 speed is great for towing as well. Good luck!

This is a great small coach..../\ /\

As far as Thor goes, they are average at best leaving the factory. If you don't mind tinkering and detailing the unit out yourself they aren't bad. In my personal experience Winnebago is the best of the "affordable" coaches.

We just camped at Glamis for a week with a guy in a Forest River, don’t remember the model. I want to say a little shorter than 25? Maybe not. The slide outs made it very roomy and that thing was reaaaly nice inside.
Killer storage everywhere, led lights throughout, very modern looking cabinets, flooring, etc.

Good point. Gas fridge is very efficient. Especially if you have a 30 amp coach and stay in havasu during the summer. You will need all the amperage to feed your AC that will be running nonstop

I just picked up a 2019 Jayco Greyhawk. 31’ bunk model with two a/c’s. Only had it a few weeks but we are stoked.

We’ve owned just about every rv style and model but the class C is a first for us. Overall really happy with it and fit/finish was better than the other brands in our opinion.

This was the first one we didn’t find sawdust and random plumbing parts in any of the drawers, storage or cabinet spaces lol

The Ford chassis is a no brainer but the coach is the crap shoot amongst the many brands. Keep shopping until you find a coach and dealer that gives a shit about service and how they present their product.

My 2017 Thor 24ft RV is on the Ford E450 and now I see the new 2019s are on the E350s. I think the e450 rear end is a couple inches wider?

You can buy a new class c , cheaper then a new truck . Go figure .
We have 2006 e450 26 ' class c , bought brand new for 51,500. great little rv for quicky trips. 2/3 nighters.
Not top of line model , Perfect for towing, parking and launching.
After 13 years , 3 sets of tire changes. And oil changes We finally stuck a little money into it. 54,000 miles
New brakes
New electric step
New fantastic fan
New toilet
New kitchen faucet
Re sealed roof
All appliances serviced.
Around $4500
Not bad after 13 years. Worth every penny , brought us many years of pure happiness and shelter.
Wanted to buy a new rv. But for 30 nights a year, we decided to keep her and fix everything
As it only cost us about $500 a year on insurance.
