For you folks with artificial turf, do you have a brush/vacuum that you like? I have just been blowing it off and using Simple Green deodorizer for the dog pee but I feel like I want to use a brush to help "fluff" it up and a vacuum to help with the dog hair. It does get a lot of traffic with kids and dogs.

My wife uses dawn dish soap and a push broom when it rains. Not joking. She has done it multiple times. I think it is funny and laugh from under the patio cover.

you may need to put in some more sand or the small pellets (whichever yours had when it was installed) in order to help get in the bottom and keep the grass standing up. I use a power broom when i put in new sand and really want to deep clean the grass

I think I used #20 silica sand but I can't remember. a quick google should be able to tell you what the best option is to use

Landscape contractor here- Stihl power broom is the move and best option.

Yes #20 silica sand is good, otherwise you can use Envirofill. If you have pets i would reccomend Zeofill it helps cut down on the odors and bacteria.

I think @badgas is a turf guy. Stihl power broom and the right infill I think is your answer. I need to do the same to mine.

Does the dish soap help with pet odors Or is there another reason your wife does it?

I have Never noticed a pet odor and it never looks dirty so I use a blower if I notice leaves. For why she washes it.... I have no idea why she does 3/4 of the things she does but if I were to guess it is for mental health. Our dogs use it every day so even if it doesn't smell she feels she needs to clean it.

I have a 3 color turf with thatch. It’s 1.75 inches tall & 102 oz. and I don’t have any issues with it laying down.

We have turf in the backyard and the urine smell from the dogs is terrible if Im not on it every 2 weeks during the summer. I use a foam cannon and dish detergent as someone else had said. Foam cannon the shit out of it then pressure wash it.

Ive tried everything you could imagine from $150 per gallon sh$t to simple green odor eliminator to baking soda and vinegar.

Let me know if someone has something that works amazing.

So that's what those white pellets are. I thought they were deoderizers because we just put in dog turf. Liking it so far but only had it a few months. We kept the sprinklers so we can cool it off & let the kids slip & slide on it. A buddy of mine says his grandkids love doing that.

Me too. I spend more money in deodorizer than I did in fertilizer.

I’ve done fabuloso with ok results. Smells better than 30% vinegar. Lol

I have a question for the turf guys on here. I am currently in the middle of a backyard pool remodel. We backfilled our old pool and are in the process of building a new pool in another location of the yard. I keep going back and forth between maraton grass (tall fescue) or turf. I would like you input. I am located in Socal and have one dog.

I am afraid of these smells/odors.

Much appreciated

Erik

I probably wouldn’t do it again in the back with dogs. Have 2 rotts and it can get bad in the summer. Have to stay on it.

So either you are cleaning turf or cutting grass.

I plan on leaving a back section of grass for my dog. The rest will be turf. Problem is I will still have to have a lawn mower. But my guys handle it. Others would need a Gardner.

House I am moving into next week will eventually be all fake turf. Working on the front yard now. Will be a rental and don't want any maintenance except for cleaning the front planters every other month or so.

We have roughly 3000 square feet of turf. It requires regular maintenance to look good. I blow debris every week, use the turf mower to put mow lines in and pull small debris out once a month. I also pressure wash a couple of times per year to keep the grass looking and smelling fresh. I have one dog; however, he doesn't go out back unless we are there, and except for an occasional poop stack I haven't had any problems staying on top of orders. I am saving huge on water and the maintenance I do is still far less than keeping up with 3k square feet of lawn. It's expensive but in my opinion, based on year-round appearance and maintenance savings it's worth it.

I have turf in a house I’m renting right now. 2 dogs and the smell is so bad in the summer time it’s embarrassing to have people over. I haven’t found anything that works well but am gonna try some stuff mentioned above.

FWIW
I wouldn’t do it again.
