Looks like I need to buy a tractor to get some stuff done around here. Thinking 20-25 hp would do. i'll need a loader and a box scraper. Is there any brands or dealers to stay away from? I'm buying used. Good ones dont appear to be easily found. You got one you wanna sell that fits the bill? any info would be appreciated. I'm in the northwest Phoenix area. thank you

I buy a lot of tractors that we rent and always get Kubota. They do offer 5 year financing with 0 down and 0% interest. I just sold two of our older units at auction and was shocked at how high they went. I bought this little guy a couple years ago BX2380 just to use around the house.

Beware of the "Imposter Orange" tractors. Can't remember the name right now, but an outfit in Phoenix imports them. They look "like the neighbor's tractor", but they aren't. Filters are a bit tougher to find, seals not as good for hydraulics and hardware issues.

The other thing, look for dealer support in the area. If it's new, for any warranty issues. If it's used, for service and repair or parts.

Another other 🤪
Don't buy one from a landscape contractor. The guys up here can break an anvil!

I've had a small Mahindra (max 26xl) for 6 years and about 560 hrs on the clock. Zero issues, proven Mitsubishi diesel 3 banger. I have forks, gannon, blade, brush hog, seeder, auger and backhoe attachment for it. It's actually a pretty impressive compact for its size, I'd buy another one if I was in the market. A factor in my consideration was the 2 hydraulic rams on each side of the front loader. Some other models have 1 center mount hydraulic which I believe isn't as strong and supportive when digging or moving heavy items on a small compact tractor.

I would rent one and try it out before committing to purchasing one. To me they're a painful tractor but all that size seem to be. Directional pedal and throttle lever to set engine speed. Manual controls to adjust the gannon cut and manually have to flip the rippers on the gannon. The buckets hold about as much as a wheel barrow. What's nice is they can be towed with a 1/2 ton truck.
I come from a professional background in grading and paving so thats why they're painful to me. Can't get used to the controls and manual adjusting of stuff. If you can find a New Holland/Ford 445 or 545 in decent shape those are nice tractors around the property, even ones that are a bit tired. If you want something with more power a John Deere 210 is a choice of many.

Iv had kubota, deere, ford, and case. Currently on an old kubota but its my fav. It will lift an engine, has fork, grader blade, 5’ & 6.5 foot gannons. Deer was a yanmar. Mahindra and Montana tractors are great too. Other Chinese no thanks. I prefer gears over hydrostatic.

Yup, I have the Kabota BX23s. It's small and not the most powerful, wanted the 26 , but gets the job done. Got it new with backhoe and box scraper for Around 22k, buying about $1500 of aftermarket market attachments and shou be good for anythingl need. Of course there are some Chinese black market knockoffs so beware buying used. I can dig 6' deep and the loader can lift 600# about 2 completely full wheelbarrows of type 2.

looking at a new (although i cant really aford it) LS or a tired little kubota. i'm on a tight budget. rented a mini with backhoe for a week and a half and it cost me 1800$ when the smoke cleared. so i figure i need to just own one for a few months maybe a year. i think i was kidding myself a bit about cost and availablity unless i wanna drive 1000 miles to score a deal which at that point aint a deal lol. wasted almost a full day today looking at tractors online and the guy with the best deal never called back...and it's a dealership? hmmm.

IMO, the best value in compact tractors is the Deere 4100 to 4600 series from the 2000’s. None of the modern shit that requires service all the time and if you can work on a boat, you can do any damn thing they need.

I wish I had a damn stable of them.

My dad had a Yanmar 1601D, it was 4wd 3cyl diesel that is the same as deer used, it was an absolute workhorse. This one is a 17 D 4wd, just make sure it's a diesel

I just bought this BX24 and love it. Buy a Kubota and you’ll never be disappointed. There is always a dealer nearby if you need it and 1000s of YouTube videos.

Depending on your property size I would recommend buying bigger than what you think you need and find someone selling with attachments. They usually don’t change price that much but can be very expensive if you need to buy one individually. Definitely get a Gannon attachment if you want to clear land and a brush hog if you need to do maintenance.

Good luck and again do some YouTube searches of the models you find for sale. Some good pros and cons video

I have a Montana / LG like the one pictured. It's done everything I've needed but there are times I could of used something a little larger or with more horsepower. I should have bought the turbo model.

The drag I made is about 2,500 lbs and 11' wide. at times it starts to bog down but can reconfigure my hitch to raise it. No mater what you do get a cab. It will be either too hot or too cold, too dusty etc. to go work.

One more thing. You must have 4 wheel drive, especially in the desert.

Stick with the major brands New Holland, John Deere and Kubota where parts and service will be readily available
Excellent point. Brand depends on parts availability. FWD is a must, especially on a smaller tractor. Other considerations are the type of work that needs to be done, soil type (rock, mud, depth, etc.) and of course implements used. Like anything HP related, get more that you think you‘ll need. I got a JD 25HP and wish I’d gone 35-40. Cab w/air would be good, but that also drives the cost up.

Must have implements are loader, box blade with adjustable rippers, post hole auger and a 3pt. receiver hitch. tractors are like men’s Barbies and AR-15s. there’s an attachment for anything you need to do.

Good luck.

If you need a loader .... don't even think of buying a tractor, new or used without one - then trying to find a good used fel later.
You'll end up spending WAY more than you thought you would.

After much research, we ordered a new Kubota B26 in September. Still not here and our dealer said don't expect it before end of April/May :-(

That's why I went with the BX23s, it was on the lot and free delivery from Vegas and no sales tax. It is a little under powered but it does everything that I need, just a little slower. I got it last spring and they were giving me the same 3-5 month delivery on the B26 with no promises.

9N? What year?
When I was searching for a tractor, all the 2,8 and 9N's around here with a loader were really nice, like that^
I ended up with an old MH-50, with a later loader cobbled together on the front. Someday I'll paint it and make it more presentable. She literally does my heavy lifting.

My dad had one of these as a kid, and we found one years ago, and it’s been sitting at his place. He passed a year ago, and I’ve been thinking about grabbing it, and get it running. I’m thinking about using it to launch my boat if i get a river place.

For years there was a guy on Dike Rd, north of the bridge in Ft Mohave, he had one he'd use to launch. All grey...with chrome wheels!
My old boss grew up in OC when it was farm land. When he was in his 70s, and pretty well off, he bought 2 or 3 restored ones...and a couple "beaters". That's where I learned to mess with them. Pretty cool and pretty simple.

We bought a Jinma tractor from CHIIIINA around 2005, paid about $6k as I recall with the FEL. It's been perfect to dig around our 3 acre property, just battery, flat tires and a starter issue. Will probably sell it and get a real Kubota or something when we move to Prescott in a few years.

My 56 Massey and my 86ish Chevy. Spring yard work time. They both serve their purposes, and into the pair for about 3500$. Got my eye on an 84 International 584 down the road though...she's a diesel, and has power steering😍
Baby steps!
