I text a friend who owns a truck. His answer was:

New cash price off the truck is 9K-12K depending on relationship.
Used (Repo) off the truck 6K-8K
Used 4K-6K
Fire Sale or Friend price $3,500.
Stolen or Lien Against $2K

Good luck with that. I just bought a triple bank master series with a ss top, hutch and locker in mint condition one year old $8k
Anyone paying big money for the new chinesium boxes are crazy. Might as well buy a goddamn harbor freight box. If someone wants to overpay for some Chinese snap on, that’s on them.

Snap on was overpriced in 1999. But it was made in America so it was somewhat justified. I remember driving past the factories as a kid. Now that it’s chinesium, what a fucking joke.

I guess if you consider a master series Snap-On box a Chinesium, ok.

Is it still made in America? As a kid, I could drive past the factory in Algona, Iowa. So it was worth it. Is the master series still made in America? If not, no, it’s not worth it.

100% agree. I walked off the snapon truck for the last time almost 4 years ago now. More than 75% of their stuff is made in China now and 100% of it is overpriced. I told my dealer as long as I was paying top dollar, I wanted the best tools AND the best service but I Expected at least one or the other. I had a cordless impact, cordless buffer, 14.4V battery, and multimeter all fail within 3 months of eachother. All of them were less than 2 years old. They replaced the battery, I paid to repair the buffer, then I paid to repair the multimeter. I told them I expected somebody else to pay for the repair of the impact and they refused. I paid my off my tab and haven't set foot on the truck since. They knew why.

All Snap On is anymore is a brand. The higher level of quality is gone and don't let anybody tell you different. Dont get me wrong, I love my 1/4" ratchets and wobbly extensions but thats about it.

Whens the last time any of you have seen a "Taco Cart"? My tool box is older than me by almost a decade

Yup. Complete shit now. I overpaid with pride Circa 2000 when it was American made by American workers. I’m not paying for Chinese anything. Glad I got out when I did.

Don’t even want to turn in my broken shit for this China bullshit. Glad I got out when I did. Makes me sick to see the Cruz Pedregon funny car, knowing the tools are complete shit. I came really close to becoming a dealer. But I can’t push chinesium Junk on people. If the quality was the same it was 20 years ago, I would be a proud dealer and making a decent living. But it’s not and I can’t live a lie.

Back in the day, we knew anything cordless or electric was junk. But the warranty would allow us to get it replaced. I didn’t buy anything other than hand tools, as the gamewaves are stupid.

Is it being sold with or without tools? And what brand tools are in it?
I have a similar Snap On box. It was built in Canada. It's a 2005 and it has really left an impression on how important and nice it is to have a quality box. It's been moved 5 times loaded with tools. One trip was 300 miles and saw weather. Still feels and looks like new 16 years later and is all original.

FYI, for all you guys. Snap On screw drivers are the best and worth the money. Never have I had one fuck up a phillips head screw or bolt. Williams Tool screw drivers are just as good.

no suspension casters? Not that high end of a model, even though it's still a good box. About 20 years old I'd figure. $2500-3000 would be fair.

Exactly, that's not one of the big ass rollaways, that's a small stacker. Nice box but closer to the 5k price used in great condition.

Pretty sure at this point, your observation is more accurate than mine. It looked a lot bigger at first glance!

But 5k for that set up? I'm thinking it's worth way more than that, problem is finding someone with that much cash on hand.

Little short of a “taco cart” but still bad ass, for everyone else reading, as a tech, it is with great pride to have a great box, or multiple, some will not understand, however those of us that do, understand.

Snap-ons electric tools have always been 3rd party rebranded and overpriced, their hand tools like ratchets, wrenches, sockets, and screwdrivers havent been matched in tolerance or finish that ive found. Their toolboxes are nice but definitely overpriced for the cahs buyer. Their business model is now revolved around credit, my new snap-on guy looked at me like i was crazy when i asked for a 'total' the first time i bought from him, he actually asked me to leave an open balance for his metrics.

I just leave about 50 bucks on my account for his numbers, but the dude has customer service like no other. Had a worn out 12point 9/16 and 1/2 inch 3/8 drive sockets that were 20 years old, he cleared the entire rack and replaced every single one so they would match all new.

I dont care what other people say, their hand tools are the shit.

I understand completely, I never carry a balance anymore, lol, my dealer is retiring in January and I expect his replacement will be pissed that I pay in full when I need something

I've been doing that for 32 years. Or take a personal loan out for 99% less interest than snap it off in your ass credit. After almost 200k my tool buying days are pretty much over unless I need a new set of screw drivers of pliers.

There are a lot of deals on SO boxes recently. I think it may have something to do with a lot of dealerships going to built-in boxes and telling all the techs to bring their boxes home. Dunno.

I remember I paid about $3500 w/ a trade in (that I bought used off the truck for $1500....small double bay similar to Dan's lower box, but taller, and a couple side cabs on it) for my new KRL1001 21 years ago. It's a 30" deep box and was the highest end at the time. $5K for a used box is a bit much to swallow...If someone is dropping that kind of coin, they can get a used one off the truck with financing for probably the same price, with free delivery. When I buy used boxes I do it because they're cheap.

I have a lot of old Snap-On (good ones) but damn, the prices are wild. However if they put bread on the table and last for years then it's somewhat justified. Pricing for their aircraft tools. 😯o_O

Every time I see these boxes I think about my buddy getting a giant Snap On rollaway cart for free. He’s an AE and after his deployment they were tossing these overboard. Made a deal and wala one deployment Snap On roll away.

Trouble is anymore is getting one of those faggots to stop to warranty tools.
Call the world headquarters and let them know. I only had to do that one time. Worked like a charm

That sir is the "Aircraft Special". The little hidden storage for special service tools/documents is a nifty identifier too. Does it still have the hook bar under the handle on bottom right side? The same setup baggage carts use....it's how they toted that fucker around from plane to plane for service.

I love mine and would never sell it! Only thing I changed was buying the rubber mat to replace the tattered top surface. Bonus info: they are rated for 4k weight (in addition to tool load) to allow for service needs in the field, it's why it has spring loaded casters. Super heavy duty. When I was young mine had all sorts of transmissions and engines on top of it when I needed an extra bench haha!

Just don't forget to drain things properly. Getting gear oil and other fluids out of the drawers SUCKS if you have a brain fart. 😆

As far as the OP that was a 12-13k setup in the early 2000's if I remember right, roller slides but no spring casters. Used it's 6-8k if you can find one on a truck.

Member to member, I'd say a good deal is 4-5k.

btw those are Matco boxes
The photo was taken at the Body Palace in Huntington Beach. The Blonde thought she came for an audition.

the brunette knew something was up as soon as she saw the Matco box and figured we had no talent or money. 😁
