Sweat and water killed all of mine. From lifeguarding in high school, to working on roofs. If you find a good maker I'd be interested too.

Interested in what others have to say.

I have just buy one at the start of each year. Most of the time I buy a Jack’s surf shop when I pick up t-shit’s for the summer. I leave them at our friend’s house sometimes it makes it through the summer. The family and kids can use them if needed. Typically by my third trip of the summer the hat is trashed. LOL This year they were kind enough to surprise me with a Trump hat in April.

I've bought the ones from the pool supply stores. All the pool guys wear them in Havasu.

Have both the pelagic one and the hemlock one. The hemlock is nicer in my opinion [emoji106]

I've had luck with the one they sell at the marina in havasu. SAfishing.com is all over the interweb right now but haven't purchased one.

Ive had really good luck with the quicksilver straw hat. Im on my second summer with this one. Last one made it through two summers as well before getting smashed in the boat.

Quiksilver Men's Pierside Straw Hat https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00DQYTNXM/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_.PXuFbXK6517G

The quicksilver hats are really nice. I wish I hadn't lost my wide brim floppy hat. That thing had seen some shit...

They still make a bucket but it's not the same. It flew off on a catalina crossing. I even went back to look for it no luck...

Edit I just found one online and ordered. It doesn't breath like a straw hat but you can get it wet without destroying it

I buy mine at lawnmower shops....they are considerably better quality than the garbage you find at gas stations in Parker.

We make about the nicest one you can buy..

Dave, the next time you order the straw hats can you look into a smaller size. Mine hat is great just way to big. In a fitted hat I’m around a 7-1/4.

Thanks Ray

I have the RDP straw hat and it is a very nice quality. I also have the $10 swap meet one for when I have to work outside for a prolonged period and for $10 it holds up well.

I use the Quick Silver ones but they all seem to be short lived. At the beach I get a few months out of it. Then I goes to the boat and last about 1 weekend of dry air and floating in the water...

The good news is they are pretty cheap

I bought the SA fishing one and have used it all summer. Seems to be holding up well. You can also customize the underside.

I've always wanted a white handmade genuine Panama hat. The workmanship that goes into those hats is impressive.

They cost around $100...I suspect the person that actually makes the hat receives less than $10 for his efforts.

I thought the same thing on my 1st one, but IMO, it’s worth every penny.
it’s incredibly light weight, It breathes, there’s multiple configurations for the strap, and wet or dry, the reinforced brim never blocks my vision.

I. Typically wear the cloth hats with a small brim...can’t kill ‘em. If it’s hot, dunk ‘em in the water before you put it on.

There is a shop at the royal hawaiian called Newt that sells all handmade panama hats made in Ecuador. Hats are 700 bucks. I walked in there and the old guy behind the counter took a look at me and walked over to the shelf and pulled one down. "This one" and he handed it to me. It was like a scene out of the wand shop in Harry potter. Angels sang and a light shone down from heaven. It was by far the most comfortable thing I have ever worn. It was weird it felt like I was wearing a cloud. Really light weight and it breathed really well. It felt like it increased airflow on my head, not quite sure how to describe it. Of course it fit perfectly. It was a surreal experience. I wasn't ready to throw down 700 bucks on a hat but I think about it all the time.

You can order them online. They do a phone interview and they have you take a bunch of measurements to make sure it fits perfectly.

Straw hats cannot be beat for the summer sun. If you're ever not sure, look to see what the people that have been working in the fields for generations wear.

Also, DONT GET A STRAW HAT WET!!! They last if somewhat watched after

That's the problem...In a small boat like yours and mine...there is nothing in the boat that doesn't get wet.

I've been using something like this but I get rid of the string

Along with a long sleeve rash guard type shirt

I may look like an idiot, but I don't need sunscreen (hate sunscreen) and the hats last damn near forever...and don't get fucked up when you shove it under the seat or wherever when you wanna make a rocket run.

I take mine off and stick it under the bow when we're on plane. My area under the bow is quite a bit taller than yours though so it's pretty easy to do. I can honestly say the only time I've gotten mine wet was when I was floating in the water and tipped my head back to finish a beer.

Fine palm is where it's at. Primarily use mine for farm work in the southeast summers. A lot of sweat, rain, and great for swatting yellow jackets. Mine was made in guatemala by estaban. sunbody.com
