I've been up since 4:30am, I filled up the truck last night, I cleaned up, got goodies, packed most of the stuff in the truck, got ice - my shit's done. Now the wife's cleaned up, got most of the clothes packed last night - it's a quarter to nine - WTF?

Why do the kids (two boys 14 and 18) take so long to get ready? They don't help with shit, (my wife says that's okay - I've learned not to question and argue about it and start the weekend off on a bad note). But why, oh why is it such a drawn out process to get out of the house on a river weekend? We've been doing this for ten years.

Its an age old problem Chili.

My dad, my grandpa, you and probably both of your have struggled with the same reality for as long as there have been trips.

The only sure fire way to leave at "X" is to COMPLETELY prepack, load and connect the night before- and to use an old fashioned wind up alarm clock- the loud annoying ones.

When I'm on my own or with Wife#2 we can get out of the house at any desired time. The more people you add (especially kids) and the out time pushes.

A 6-10 person trip is a nightmare.

Nothing I hate more than being late. 9 means 9, not 10. Then they get in the truck and ask why you're grumpy.

Amen!

Just a day trip 30 minutes away to Shasta takes what seems forever.

I can be ready within 30 minutes EASY!!

Deb is pretty fast also.
But when her boy lived there it was like pulling teeth.
He is naturally worthless anyway, but that POS would actually SIT in the truck while Mommy got his stuff ready for him.

Drove me nuts.

That's about it. :D

I can't help but chuckle just a bit when reading the post. I'm sure more of us can relate than Chili realizes.

Wadayagonnado? :p

Shake your head and smile and have a great time.

My wife can get home at 445 friday and me at 515 and we can be on the road by 530. Though having a place in Havasu there is not much to get ready, just 2 dogs and whatever bag we have made up over the last 2 weeks.

Better for kids to learn to be prompt when their kids vs when they're getting fired for being late all the time :D

Chili if you are not going to be able to fix this unless you get Mom on your side. And that is the truth.
If you can get her on board, it is time for a wake up call for those to boys. Not trying to b e an ass here, but at 18 the oldest can stay home and mow the lawn or paint the focking house or something, the days of nursemaiding his ass along need to come to a screeching halt, now, or he ain't never gonna function as an adult.

I fought this war with the wife when the boys were about 12 and 9...they are old enough then to be responsible for being loaded and ready, at least their clothes and stuff, or serious consequences came in to play.

Exactly!
That's why I could never leave the imbecile step-son at home by himself, could not trust him at all.

usually I am the reason we leave late, but it is almost always work related . once I get to the house all we have to do is grow our crap in the truck and we are out. Like a lot of you, there is not much to take as we have a place at Fisher's. Clothes, gas cans, and the food and drink replenishment.

As for the kids, they are no problem. I think they're ready to go on wed...lol

We all have arrival chores to get done once we get there. B gets the kitchen set up , the kids unwrap the boat and get vests loaded, and after I get the utilities going and the patio set up, I touch base with the neighbors.. that usually involves a beer. :D

WTG I would trust you made his ass as miserable as possible when forced into that deal..:D

I would go so far as to pay a focking neighbor to watch, let my cop buddies know to do a drive by, etc. Left behind only had to happen once.
Teenage sons learned early not to declare war on me. They ain't got the gear to fight it.

I've already fixed it. I don't have kids, and aren't married. If I leave at 4am then I do, if I leave at 11pm then I do, works out great.:D:rolleyes:

PR388 Your constant interest in girls,(which is normal) leads me to believe you don't have it fixed, it just happens to be the situation you are in right now.
I think we should archive this post in the event some woman succumbs to your charms, (however implausible you think that may be) and enters your life on a long term (more than 2 weeks) basis.

I'd like to see your skilz at dealing with getting the circus on the road with a gal you are attached to and a child or two.
I am thinking their would be some comedic value therein.

I say this in all good cheer young man.

At the age of 8, I wrote out and signed a document for my uncle stating how much I hated girls and would never marry or be involved with a woman. He cosigned it as a witness.

He presented the framed document to me on my wedding day :D

Your statement reminds me of that, LOL.

Lol and I know they wanted to be left. Here's some advice, throw the party trash away at a dumpster somewhere. Not in the house cans. Damn rooks lol

X2

when you ask me a time to be ready by, that is the time I am out the door and leaving. NOT the time I plan on waiking up. But then again my friends have learned I mean business with this certain issue. I have been known to leave them behind on more than one occasion:D
