I range officer for Street Safe Defense who is offering a 4 hour handgun course specifically designed for women. One of the requests we commonly hear from women in our level 1 course is that they would really like a basic introduction to handguns. So....

This class is specifically created for WOMEN who have always wanted to learn the basics about handguns, self defense, and basic shooting. Handgun safety will be emphasized! This is an introductory level class for the very novice and new gun owner.
Tell your wives, moms, sisters, daughters and friends! Class is taught by female NRA certified Home Defense and Firearms Instructors. We will learn in a safe, supportive environment and cover many topics, including:

  • Fundamentals of Gun Safety
  • Identifying Various Types of Firearms and How to Load & Unload Them Safely
  • Cleaning and Storage
  • Discussions on Topics such as: Mindset/Attitude; Applicable Laws Re: Children and Firearms Safety; Use of Deadly Force; Supplies & Gun Safes on the Market
  • Lots of Hands-On Time! Grip, Stance, Dry-Firing, Live-Fire Drills

Saturday, May 10[SUP]th[/SUP], 2014
8:00AM ? Noon
Rainbow Gun Club & Shooting Range
$100

Participants will need to provide a handgun to use for the class. A supply list with additional details will be provided upon registration.

To RSVP please call Cheryl Tokle (310) 748-5251. Space is limited!

****I would post this in the gun section, but not too many women venture down there.

Men get your wives talked into it. 4 hours is a good introduction and easy on the ladies who don't want to spend 8 hours minimum if not a whole weekend on the range. Great way to ease into it.

Their plan is to offer the same course for Shotgun and Rifle later.

Also, I volunteer as a range safety officer, so I make nothing from it. I just like shooting and helping out! :thumbsup

Just show up and bring cash or a check. $250 (ish) per year. They don't really call people back. I saw them signing someone up just a couple weeks ago.

This course will be based on the NRA First Steps Pistol Course.

I appreciate you guys/gals getting the word out. This course is the idea of the instructor leading it, and if we get a good response, she will be able to offer additional women's courses.

If anything, it helps women get to a course without their spouses/significant others. At another place I've worked/helped out, they will separate spouses, but do it in a way that doesn't seem like they are trying to separate spouses....just putting repeat students with new students, but the real goal is to separate spouses only because of the stress they put on each other especially in the beginning. Towards the end of the classes, we put them back together as we want to try and induce stress so they can see what happens to their skills under some stress.
