Similar to Dave's soft sided cooler test. I have been told for a number of years that the Yeti is "the best money can buy". I have several Coleman Extremes that I've been happy with and found it hard to believe a Yeti could be that much better. Honestly I don't think in the past 15 years I've bought enough ice to justify the difference in price and this test basically says the same think.

Interesting test and very fair. Even though the Coleman was rated as best value bc of price it seemed to be equivalent to Yeti in the ice test.

We are switching over to a yeti for durability. Hinges and handles are breaking on igloos when used 3 days a week. :D

Based on the test results in that video I'd opt for Engel coolers over Yeti, they appear to be slightly better built and they're more affordable.

Yeah - the 65 looks pretty nice and a better deal than the yeti. Very similar look and features.

I've told this story here before but we were on a houseboat trip at lake Powell one year and had 2 coolers on the front deck of the boat. One was a blue Coleman extreme like in the video and the other was a yeti. At the time I wanted a yeti in the worst way but after a several days we noticed there was barely any ice left in the yeti and the Coleman was jam packed with ice still. To be honest it kind of crushed my dreams because I think the yetis are so cool but I'm glad I didn't pay all that money just to have my friends cheapy Coleman's end up being better coolers. They say the Coleman is the best bang for the buck but the fact that it holds more and is way lighter than the others is a big deal also.

I have a couple hard Yetis and Engels. In the the direct sun all day they are good. But they have to be cold on the inside when u start out. I have found that a block of ice in the bottom works best. Then add all your drinks and loose ice. And don't drain the water. If you open and close them repeatedly all day they melt ice with the best of them.

I will say this about the Yetis, we have them in our helicopters in Afghanistan and they get the shit beat out of them and seem to hold up quite well. Very sturdy.

Used a yeti for the first time on a houseboat trip last summer. You have to pre cool it before you use it, I used a 5lb bag of ice the day before we left. When i left my house i loaded the yeti with burgers, lots of hot dogs, sausages, lunch meat, potato salad etc. I used 5lb of dry ice and crushed ice over that. When we went to cook the burgers on the second day of 105 degree heat everything in the ice chest was frozen. We never had to add ice to the yeti and we usually go through about $50 a day in ice keeping all of the ice chest filled on our houseboat trips. I would recommend using the yeti more for holding food than for drinks because it defeats the purpose if you are going to be opening the ice chest all day.

I usually try to pack two coolers. One for cold storage and one for daily use. I'll move beers from long storage to the daily use so we don't keep opening the long storage.
