So, I've been in to VW's for a long time, but I always wanted a clean '67 driver. Well, last Sunday at the Bug O Rama in Phoenix I ran across a guy looking to trade just such car for a 2wd Toyota truck. It just so happened that I owned just such a truck. :D

SWEET! 67 was the best year in my opinion. I believe it was the first year they were 12 volt and they had the headlight rings.

Yeah it's a cool year. First for a lot of things (headlights, 12 volt, etc) and last year for many things too (overrider bumpers, metal dash, swing axle, etc.) I'm pretty stoked! :D

First year for the 1600 also, Great car! 67 was the best year, 68 was the worst year. I've got a 66 with a sunroof that needs restoration, I cant wait to get it started.

Actually...............The '67 came with a sinlge port 1500. 1600's didn't kick in until about 1969, and it was still a sinlge port I believe.
PinkTaco......I'm also a '67 fan. Here's mine. :D

If all goes well with some seat time and good jetting, maaaaaybe high 11's. Most likely low 12's though. It should give the Honda kids a nice run for their money.

mmmm Nice Bronco too...:D

River that's my buddy Dan's Bronco. He's also had it since high school. He just dropped a new 396 in it :thumbsup The other car is my buddy Zach's '59. He just did a 4" narrowed beam and air ride shocks all the way around. It's a bit lower now :drool

The picture was taken up near Jerome. We like to head up there on Sundays with a group and hang out and watch all the tourists:cool:

I had a yellow super beetle just like that in the early 80's but I painted the spider wheels black and the brake drums yellow. I sold it to a neighbor at the river and he still has it :thumbsup

Coz I've had my car since I was 15. It's been a lot of fun growing up with that little car! :thumbsup

Here are some more pics from the show.
I really liked the black car. I don't usually get into the whole "hood ride" deal but this car had some very unique features.

I've been looking at some old bugs lately. They have gotten expensive!

The bumpers on your 67 are a little different. I thought the stock bumper for that year was the "fork" bumper?

Nord the stock '67 bumpers are the over-rider style with the two hoops over the main bumper and mine just has the blades. You're right solid cars are going for a pretty penny these days which is how I ended up with the Toyota first (couldn't find a solid car in my price range). It's all relative but there were some real basket cases that guys were asking $4-$5k for. I can remember being able to buy a pretty solid driver for $1000 to $1500 back in the mid to late 90s. Not anymore. :grumble:

Ah yes the custom VWs of the 80's! I believe the wide use of sawsall and bondo in the 80's has directly affected the price of todays solid (read unmolested) examples of these little cars. Everybody and their sister was hacking roofs, swapping fenders, shaving everything but the girlfriend, and generally defacing these cars in hopes of making them look like something other than a VW so that they would better match the skinny ties and Flock of Seagulls hair of the times.... Hey, who didn't love a frenched antenna (or anything) and shaved door handles!? :D
