These folks are a special kind of committed.
It’s 56 degrees and on and off drizzle to the point of puddles and water falling off the roof.
I’m at Barron Boats putting another boat in the mold, and when this fair is going on I’d better be here by 7:30am or I’m stuck in traffic all the way down First st, and Peckham road.

I took these pics at 9:01, and it had been like this a half hour. It’s 10:50 now and looks exactly the same.

Bunch of hippies wanting to relive the dark ages...taking selfies and posting to social media. Seems cattywompous to me 🤣

It is a shit show to get into the parking lot, the wait was like almost an hour... they need to figure out how to make traffic flow better. We went two weekends ago and it was a nightmare to get in, then it was so crowded that the wait to get food or drink were zero fun. The only thing we really enjoyed is the Merry Wives of Windsor show that we go see every year - they are the best!!

We got married at the renfaire 28 years ago, but it was at Glen Helen then and that place is set up to accommodate large crowds and a lot more spread out so it never felt crowded. While I like the closeness of Irwindale, it definitely is not a great place to accommodate the large crowds that the renfaire has seemed to gather in the last couple of years. Pre covid was OK, but they didn't draw enough people to make any money. And now they do themed weekends, so it encourages the non period costumed peeps.

I have fond memories of la oubliette which is the ale stand that is pictured in the videos above. It was definitely alot more "naughty" back in the day then it is now. The renfaire had to go "family friendly" to stay in business so it is very tame nowadays compared to 20 or 30 years ago. There used to be a kissing bridge, where young ladies would gather and pick guys to kiss after they crossed it. My group would wander through the fair doing kilt checks to see if you were a true scot... Talk about debauchery, and good times!

That being said, even though we have gone every year since we met 32 years ago and enjoy bringing new people in to experience it, we probably will think twice about going in the coming years. Call us old and grouchy but I dont like waiting 45 mins to get a $17 dollar beer!

Maybe check out the Corona Renfair?
We went last year, first experience.
Wife’s coworker’s daughter is a performer there, so we went to check it out.
Root for Miss Lundon.
She’s a legit 18 year old bad ass👍😎

We are actually considering going to TX and the east coast renfaires to see what those are like now that we both are retired. We also looked up the Las Vegas one since we are out there twice a month dealing with Mom health issues. The renfaire is a great time usually, I know that people think it is hippie peeps but really it isnt like that. More of a legit party crowd, like it is in Parker or Havasu type of way. Laid back and easy going but ready to have good times kind of way. Thanks for the recommendation, we might just check that out next year instead of Irwindale!

They had one at AVI one year the same weekend we had a sand drag event. They were not impressed. Their turkey legs got real dirty and they had to smell alky and nitro all day🤣🤣

But the smell of Nitro and allky so alluring 😂
So bustiers and big titties or Nitro🤔.....

There was plenty of titties on the sand drag side and you didn't have to hunt the playgrounds with a machete😉😉😜🤣 you did have to wait till after dark though🤣
