This was a while back before he was "Epic". Even went as far as to respond to my ad through "his son's" FB account because he "didn't have social media". But whatever, the deal had been made, and she got a fair price for the boat at the time, so it all worked out. I'm just not into the shady shit.

Can you imagine if manufacturers sold cars or boats, based on the buyers Story?

I had ChatGPT write this one for me:

Sure! Here's a humorous story you can tell the seller to charm them into letting you buy their boat:

---

"Look, I’ll be honest with you—I need this boat. Not just want, not just kinda think it's cool—need.

Let me explain. A couple weeks ago, I tried to impress my in-laws with a ‘romantic canoe ride.’ Turns out, a Walmart inflatable kayak does not count as a watercraft in their eyes. We floated 20 feet, then popped it on a twig. Had to swim back while dragging my mother-in-law, who was wearing a full sunhat and holding a Yeti cup like the Queen of England.

She hasn’t looked me in the eye since.

Now, if you sell me this boat, not only will I restore my dignity, but I’ll finally have something that proves to my neighbors I’m more than just 'the guy who pressure washes his driveway at weird hours.'

Plus, I promise to treat her right—clean her, name her something classy like 'Unsinkable II' (I have plans), and maybe even grow a mustache to match the nautical vibe. So c’mon—let’s make dreams float today. Sell me the boat, and together we’ll rewrite my aquatic legacy.”

Exactly this! Bernie bought a boat that I was selling for a friend's wife. He had taken his own life, and she was trying to sort through everything. Selling the boat was something she decided she had to do. Now, had he come and said he was buying the boat to make some money on it, cool. She gets the boat sold, he gets the boat with room for profit. But no... he shows up with his wife, tells me how his kids are excited for the new boat and all that BS. The deal is made, and a week later he has it listed with new wheels on the trailer. I'm not hating, just don't like that "lifestyle" epic or not.....
So this means his entire family is in full Bernie training. How does one draw the line on when something said is not a Lie? Gavin Newsome style.

This is why in my house, including my 7 employees, my kids, my wife...no fucking lies told. No exceptions.
Lies are just fake data. What happens in the dark eventually comes to light anyway. Such as this thread.

This Boat however...Pristine. Essex is a great boat company that is alive a well doing what they love.
That has to be worth something but its not worth the ode of the double minded. Have the boat looked at by a reputable Boat Mech.

I don’t have a dog in this fight, but the guy is doing very well for himself, clearly, and his new boat is pretty…. Epic (see what I did there..?)

I’m kind of with Dave.. I want the things I sell to go to a good home, but at the end of the day I want the money more. Your story means little to me at the time of the sale.

I feel like with the posts in this thread, the OP is kind of armed with some knowledge to make a reasonable offer and still allow the ‘flipper’ to make a bit of a profit.. 🤷🏻‍♂️

So are you saying the "apples" of his eyes are falling at the base of his tree?
Im sure that will be epic too. Did Bernie work under mouser for years in training?

I think you said it perfect there. certain things I value more than money.and maybe it’s not dollars. Sometimes seeing a smile on someone’s face is priceless. But that ties into the stories and what not

I almost didn't start my "restoration thread" cause I'm sure there will be individuals that come along asking why certain things were done or "next time you can do it better if you do it this way" comments. To each there own. RDP isn't any different then any other social media site...

With the amount of traffic we get, and watching the comments on here vs fb and IG I’d disagree with your sentiment.

I don’t think I’d be saying that.. I don’t know him all that well but plenty of people I know have bought boats from him and have nothing but good things to say.

I offered to sell him one of my boats one time. He threw a number, I said no.. easy peezy.

If I woulda said yes I wouldn’t get mad about it later.

What got me was the misleading comments and bringing his wife into it.
But hey I am a straight shooter and I don't feel the need to create a story to ease this widow into selling a boat then promptly reselling.

When my Dad died back in 2010 a family friend talked my step mother into taking my Dads boat to Boat Brokers in Havasu. I wanted the boat back when the reality number came to light. They were stand up and helpful. I offered to compensate them and they said they understood and even helped guide me out of a very full dealership. This is the plus side to something I thought was going to be shady. The good exists at least in this scenario.
