In memory of our friend Carl

The 2025 Damn Dam Run Executive Committee is pleased to announce the date for this year's event has been set in stone (well, maybe in quick-sand).

Gather up your calendars and mark them all for August 09, 2025. 9:00am at the bouys at Katherine's Landing, 10:00am at the bouys at Cottonwood Cove (this group outta be on the water and ready by 9:30am just in case).

Then uplake with a couple of stops along the way (Zec Com will not announce these stops.....you're on your own to figure out when a buncha boats stop and raft up for a break).

As in the past, the 'Zec Com takes no responsibilites for shirts, drinks, meals, drinks, reservations, drinks, moorage, drinks, BBQ's, drinks, oversleeping captains, drinks, ice, drinks, sunburns, drinks, bad attitudes, drinks, sinkings, drinks, launch ramp lines, drinks or drinks.

A Damn Dam Run sign up thread will follow when the 'Zec Com deems necessary.

That is all........

'Zec Com

An added reminder. This is a not a sanctioned event. This is just me letting you know that a couple of us will be enjoying ourselves on the lake checking out the sights from one dam to the other.

We will be there. Can’t wait. Hopefully willow will be open for fuel this time. I made it back to Katherine’s with 2 gallons on each side. I was pretty easy on the throttles that day. I want to be able to run it like @FROGMAN524 😂😂

I'm thinking I can make it this year finally. I know it's been asked every year, how many miles total and where to get gas on the trip?
Gas at cottonwood or willow. If @BHC Vic drives like he did last year we will be there in 10 mins from Katherine’s with plenty of time to fuel. He’s gotta be the only 496 boat that can do 100 mph for real. Otherwise willow is the halfway point

My old Advantage 25 with the 496 would make it up and back from Katherine's with 15 plus gallons to spare. Now that I have the lavey craft 29 with a 600 SCI I've been concerned whether I would make a trip like this on one tank. Haven't ran a whole tank through yet but can already tell she's a lot thirstier than the 496.

I haven’t done it since I took Carl the last year. It’s been too hard to even think about. I miss that old man. I’ll see what my schedule is and decide what boat to take. I think he’d appreciate seeing Hooters make the run since it’s half as old as he was.

I did it in a 30 Eliminator with a TCM engine. I had to fill up at willow because I thought taking it easy would save gas. Turns out going a lot faster was more fuel efficient and I might have been able to go up and back one one tank. Though I'm sure my passengers probably didn't want 60+ mph the whole time. Cost me more in gas to keep the passengers happy but oh well, it was a great ride.

Its about 65 miles each way.

This is actually true. There is a sweet spot for mileage and sometimes it is on the side of speed. When I had my 34 with twin 496HOs, I used to go to the dam from Cottonwood and back on a tank of gas easy. But then on one trip heading up there I lost an engine just outside of Willow. Decided to turn around and plow back to Cottonwood on one engine at about 10MPH.

Ran out of gas just outside of Cottonwood. Couldn't believe it.

You’ll be needing 175 gallon tank for that!

29 Lavey holds 150 If I remember right? Should be more than enough keeping it under 4k.

ideally fuel wise the 22 is perfect for this but boat is too damn small. 26 might be pushing it.

I probably could have made it on gas last year but I ran it pretty hard trying to catch everyone after our late launch. Topped off at cottonwood on the way back across the washing machine- er, basin.

Hopefully Willow has gas this year, that would make things easier.

Do you guys normally drive up the day of or stay and slip it the night before? Thinking we would be driving in from needles. The last time I was at Katherine’s landing in a Saturday, it was chaos.

I ended up launching at Princess cove to try and make up time, and it was awesome aside from the steep ass walk up the hill to the trailer. I may do it again this year to avoid the chaos.

Every year you guys post this and every year I get a bunch of calls from the coast guard threatening me for this event I’m putting on..

Every year I get to explain it isn’t an event there is no schedule or shirts there is no registration etc..
and most importantly I’m not putting it on. lol

I wonder if they will finally figure it out this year.

The only time I’ve ever had an issue was the year the police were waiting at Willow. I think others have been contacted but I’ve never had any issues.

You guys won’t regret it. I’d just drive down from needles and launch. I think we were in the water rather quick that day but we launched about 8:15 I believe. Now retrieval took us a solid 45 mins.

So you're saying the "Coast Guard" (who also patrols inland waterways) is monitoring this website and literally threatened you? For what?
And what did the threaten to do?

I mean, this gathering of friends isn't until August. So, at this time, there is no need for permits or insurance. Especially for a non sanctioned event that doesn't require them anyway.

I really can't understand how, we as a society, have gotten so pussified that hall monitors in Government don't have anything better to do than harass recreational boaters. Lame.

on the 22 yes. Not the 26. I would have to stop by Riveria.
I think you’d be solid to get to willow man. If you were really nervous about it you could always gas up at cottonwood on the way down too.

If you launch at Cottonwood, and the wind is under 10 knots, it’s not that bad in a 21’ boat.

The Trip from Katharine’s Landing to Cottonwood is boring, and can be rough unless you have a boat that can get on top of 2-4’ swells, with 16-20’ spacing.

It’s a nice drive I wouldn’t say it’s boring.

I need to make it to one of these runs. I've boated Mohave since I was a kid, and I have still yet to make the run up to the dam. I have been to the other side from Mead, just never the south side...

It’s on the calendar! We get up early so might as well save the money on a hotel and slip. The walk up to the parking lot will suck in the afternoon, but it won’t be me doing it 😂

What is the average speed? I feel like we may be one of the slower boats.
