we are In the throws of planning a kitchen remodel here in OC. We will be installing a 48" oven cooktop combo. I have never had a gas oven before. Some say duel fuel, others say gas oven.

What say you RDP ?

I am am not a brand whore I just want something that works well as I love to cook and have never done a kitchen remodel. Been In the home for 26 years so we want to do it right. We will also be installing a 42" refrigerator.

Wolf $$$$$

Thermador $$$$

Fisher Paykel $$$

Kitchen aid $$

Thor $ seems like they are great value, the guys that sell that top shelf stuff obviously crap on them.

would love to hear stories good and bad

All above are good units
dual fuel combo unit some people like baking w electric, cook top gas. Some duel fuel notes can also ref propane and nat gas ready. No specific unit need to order

note - if all gas, check gas requirements. Larger units can require more gas than what an older home may have existing. 1/2 likely to small 3/4 should be ok, may have to adjust regulator at meter.

The cooks say dual fuel is what they like. Personally it does not matter unless it is gas burners. Sadly I did not push it with the Havasu remodel. As for brands get the best that your wife and wallet allows. 🤙🏽

Thor is garbage compared to the others IMO. We have it in our house right now and it feels like a Chinese knock off of Wolf. We really liked our Monogram oven, steam oven, and column fridge and freezer. We had the Thermador freedom induction cooktop, which I will 100% get again, but it looks like you’re set on gas. We were going all Wolf but there were supply chain issues during COVID.

48" most are dual fuel now. Gas top electric oven. So plan on running 50 amp to it. Even if you find all gas run 50 for future. Wolf or Viking would be my choice.

Been a while but I was cooking regularly on a 6 burner 48" gas for a few years. Harder than you think to have 6 things going at once and time it all to be done at the same time.

Slightly off topic

we have a 6 burner Viking gas cook top - It just works awesome ! Think it’s 42 wide

dual electric wall oven - the dual was good you could use one as a warming spot, or bake 2 items at different temps

Just did this with a 36"

All the brands offerings between dual fuel and gas are hugely different.
Dual fuel has the most features in every lineup.

Power outages are big thing where I live and running a range off a genset is very large load so I went gas.

If you go gas the features drop by 50%.

In the gas ranges the one that we went with is the monogram, for a bunch of reasons.

2 full bearing slides, plus one non bearing slide.
Can fit a full sheet pan
proof mode - we bake bread
keep warm mode
self clean mode
probe
Flame control - great mix of high power and super low burners (so low you can set you hand on it)
Brass burners
Reversible grates with one side convex (convex?) for woks.
Lit knobs when on so you can see if you left a burner on.

Made in the US (yes an Asian company but still made by Americans)

I was wholly unimpressed with Wolfs gas range, but if I were going dual fuel would do Wolf.
The Thermador was tied with Miele for second place.

Modern induction cooktops will boil water faster than gas. They also have super powerful ones that have battery boost for more power than 50A service can deliver.
We replaced our mid grade gas with a standard induction. Easy to clean and easy to control temps. But need correct type of cookware. Oven is electric.

The induction cookware is pricy, and needed a set for the mohome. I thought my all clad stuff was money. Lol

My five-year-old house has a 48 inch GE monogram, cooktop gas. It’s insane but quite frankly the center portion, which is a grill cover with the stainless steel. Cover is never been used.
The oven is a double electric would double convection most all new houses in Las Vegas and there’s thousands of them that are high-end seem to use this set up. Monogram 48 inch built-in refrigerator has been flawless so far.

Mines like NicPaus above but made by Bertazonni. 10 years now and no issues with any of my Bertazonni appliances.
why not induction? I was thinking about that for another property where Gas is not available?

I replaced my Bertazonni with the Monogram above.
I lost 2 thermal relays in 14 months and the oven bottom was warped causing hot spots. (previous owner prob covered it )
The only thing I liked about it was the enormous center burner.

Its cooking cavity was quite small top to bottom, less so than the 24" Mieles pictured above.
They included storage space for thin items on the bottom.
Id have preferred they enlarged the oven cavity vs add storage.

I was worried I wouldn't use it either, I could have taken a row of burners out and had that.

Seems like a cooler idea than reality.

I wish I had room for that fridge.

Can't really add to what's been said about ranges, but I'd really recommend you check these guys out for your range hood. Made in Canada and sold directly from their factory in Vancouver.
Real quality and spot on service.

What’s your review of the monogram? I’m building a house now and planning on a 36” dual fuel, haven’t considered monogram yet.

Thats gas correct?

Love the idea of a pot filler.
Grew up with a neighbor who's leaked when he was out of town destroying his oven.
Dual. Gas burner, electric oven. Was told gas and then had to add electric from the panel.

GAS.

I've seen MANY a fool buy some crazy expensive stove, oven, range whatever you want to call it. My advise find an older one that is great shape and use that.

These older units hold heat better and are just fun to use and trust me the food will be just as good..

This old Girl is going in my new Barndo. .

I liked the Dual fuel Wolf.
I didn't like the gas Wolf.

I wanted to stay gas to make it easier to run the house from genset power.

Fantastic.

Love the flame control, brass burners, and reversible grates, as well as the slides and space in the oven.

I dig pristine older stuff especially with porcelain or bakelite controls, and some of them can work well.
Older but well maintained okeefe and merrit also comes to mind, but I wouldn't go so far as to say they perform like top of the line cookware.

The good thing about GE is you can get parts almost anywhere. The average GE repairman can be factory or an independent it’s just never an issue and it’s not a premium prize repair like other brands if it goes out.

But you’re after owning it, you’ll get a letter from GE for small fee You could extend the warranty for many more years if you desire.
On the built-in monogram refrigerator I believe they make one that is 42 inches.
The house we bought they’re just finishing refurbishing. We’re gonna leave the kitchen alone for now, but probably next winter change the cabinets and put in built-ins. I’ll use the same appliances as I have in the house now that’s only six years old. Great stuff.

We’ve had the 48” dual fuel monogram in the last two houses and we are putting one in the new house. As noted above, don’t get the grill, but DO get the griddle. We really like having the small half oven and the full size oven next to it.

No issues on the ranges over the last 12 years.

Our setup is a bit different, but we have DACOR and have been satisfied. American made and family owned. Have had a few different appliances from them over the years.

Probably already been posted 100 times, but X1 for "Dual Fuel", unless your house doesn't already have 240v wired for the range (or you don't want to add it).
The electric oven's heat more evenly, and are more popular with the higher end ranges.

Stay away from the "value luxury" brands like Z-line, Thor, etc - Major issues with the ovens holding temp and components crapping out.

We have a 48” Kitchen Aid dual fuel. 5 years in and it’s been outstanding.

In our flip homes, I’ve put in some of the “economy” brands like Thor or Z Line and one other I can’t think of. All are serious sub par border line junk. All they have is the look and it ends there. Fit/finish, construction and materials all leave a lot to be desired. Save your money.

Love it !!

This ( kitchen aid ) is what I am leaning towards. The range is like $3-5K less than a Wolf and the fridge is $5K less than a sub Z

I will gladly save $10K to not have the red knobs and name " Wolf" on the appliance.
