Holy shit. Thats too much and I dont care what the vet says

They definitely take advantage of the situation.

We rescued this dog a couple months ago and with that came a promise to take care of her no matter what. I’m fortunate enough to be able to do that but it’s unfortunate how much it costs and I can see a lot of people not being able to afford it.

Holy crap!!! How scary. So glad that she is doing okay and feeling better with the antivenom.

Definitely look into rattlesnake avoidance training when things are back to normal (pic from our training).
Mel, when you first posted this years ago, I thought that was a fake ass snake.... but no, there is some poor guy out there who's job it is to put a muzzle on a rattlesnake and makes me think... I love my job, I love my job... LOL

Yes, it's actually real 🤣 They muzzle the rattlesnakes so they can't bite.
I remember Rex posting about it long ago.
Sounds like it might be a class worth taking. I bet it’s cheaper and less stressful than a bit dog.

Glad the pup is doing well. That had to be scary.
We did the snake training in Havasu with our GSP. The trainer said before we started that our dog wasn’t that bright and will need some extra reps. SOB he was right. He’d give him a jolt and the dog would still want to see what the snake was up to. I was easier to train. 😁

I know a good tax guy that will write that expenditure off as a loss. PM for his contact info.

In all seriousness, I’m glad Charlie pup is doing better. That was a close one!
in all fairness...take the dog to work a few times, then it becomes a guard dog, and dog food at that point is a legit write off...

After all, the dog prevented Shintoo from getting bit by a snake....

Glad all is well.

Fwiw- we live in snake country (like lots of em). In my experience as long as the dog is 15 lbs plus AND they dont get bit on the tongue (very bad), they recover. We get annual “rattle snake “ boosters . Just had it last week. $50 per dog. Its not a cure, but buys time (makes my wife feel better mostly, I think?)

You might look into?

Another piece of good news is the vet called and refunded $1,400 of the charges back because they didn't have to use a second dose of the antivenom. So all in all it was $3,600 and worth every penny. 🙂

Wife and I are the same way, I honestly hate paying ridiculous prices at the vet, in fact I have spent more money at vets than I do for myself even if needed. That said, no matter what it is we will pay it because our pets are our family and once they are in our family money does not matter to assure their well being.
