Yelp is a nasty b*tch. They have been filtering our positive reviews since we stopped advertising with them (30+ 5-Star reviews)...Anyone want to trade?

I predict they will eventually go down , its like a "mob protection racket" masquerading as free speach
100%! I used to use them all the time...I had no idea they filtered reviews. They day we cancelled our $800/mo ad spend we got 2 random reviews from people who we've never worked with. They claim its not related, but gimme a break.

This is where they hide the good reviews.Bottom of the page.

The nice portion of Yelp that has worked for me is the ability to post pictures with comments. Those do not get filtered. :)

We have a local restaurant that serves crap food.
The hour anyone complains about it the review is removed.
Fast, within the hour.
Something isn't plumb there.

Was your picture of the Butt woman? I took pictures of quality of the workmanship. Then made specific comments.

Yelp applies mostly to contractors.
Online referral business' will take a company off their list, if they have too many bad online reviews.
When I was looking for bathroom remodels, one item on the check list is to look for reviews. The reviews I looked for were specific to the situation I was getting my self into.
It's amazing how many DIYS videos there are. I didn't want to be their first rodeo either.

I have talked to yelp quite a few times about advertising and it never penciled out. They had no way of tracking anything and there pricing never made any sense in my business even on a best case scenario.

I think it can work great organically if you have a kick ass bar or pizza joint but strange things are afoot with how they modify, change or adjust reviews.

I had a customer write a bad review on yelp , his story was the owner wanted to charge me for a estimate. The true story is I went out there the hit a motor operator that activates their door . I told him electrical can have hidden damage I can quote on what I physically see damaged but the electrical part would be difficult. So than he writes the review that I wanted to charge for the quote .

I had a negative review after I declined their yelp advertisement service. Emailed them and it was removed.

Hmmmmm.

I had a big beef with an rv dealer in temecula, now out of business
All my reviews went into not recommended
Yelp said it was their software
I left reviews of places i've never been at and they were good.
Yelp is a joke

I too just check out the pix and get an idea of what the place is like.

Can’t go by the opinions except from those Yelpers you are familiar with and are legit.

Car dealers are the worst with sham reviews.
I flagged Galpin Mazda and Yelp concurred after noting all the 5 star reviews came from the same ISP.

Funny because Galpin Ford reviews are shams too and Yelp won’t pull them down. It’s employees and sales people I know and their families posting sham 5 star experiences.

Yelp is up and down for us but we have always been in the black with them. Even when we cut a lot of our budget their “algorithm” changed how a lot of our reviews came through. But for the most part we still see a decent portion of our business through yelp. One thing we have found is taking the bad reviews and responding to them works wonders.

Certainly true in my case. I've never left a review either positive or negative, I prefer the old fashion form of customer to business communication.
When I do read Yelp reviews, I'm mostly interested in how the business responds to reviews, in particular any negative or ones offering suggestions or criticism. I'll put more weight on that response than usually the complaint, unless of course it's a common complaint that isn't apparently remedied.

We recently went through a record heat wave in so cal. We received just shy of 300 phone calls from Friday night to Monday morning (we generally don’t get 300 in a month). We received 3 negative reviews because our after hours/emergency service techs were completely booked and we were only taking calls from existing customers or customers with a maintenance plan (our maintenance customers are guaranteed service within 48 hours).

It is what it is. The only negative reviews we have is from people that never spent a penny with us.

All the negative reviews are responded to and I usually get comments from potential customers that the reason we were called out because of the fact that it shows we care and try to make every customer happy.

My Son and I go to lunch once a week and have been for years , recently went to an awesome Burger joint in Paso Robles everything was cool except his Burger (topped with pulled pork) had a HUGE disgusting piece of fat under the bun the size of a Snickers bar , he removed and set it aside on a saucer , we showed it to the waitress whole indicated the cook "was new" , never was there a apology or offer to "comp" his meal... yes they got a 2 star review with a photo , never was there a response .....

Few Plumbers I know use it. More you pay in advertising the better reviews will show and bad will disappear. I read a lot of reviews to see what customers are saying. Some businesses it is mostly friends of the owners posting others only post the bad. Happy customers rarely go out the way unless asked.

I read that recently a east coast OBGYN brought a large suit against a customer for a potentially libelous one star page long yelp review

NYC Gynecologist Files $1 Million Lawsuit Over Negative Yelp Reviews

www.newsweek.com/joon-song-bad-review-yelp-lawsuit-gynecologist-michelle-levin...
May 30, 2018 - New York City gynecologist Dr. Joon Song filed a $1 million defamation lawsuit against a former patient after she posted a review on Yelp and ...

Great Wall Medical P.C. d/b/a New York Robotic Gynecology & Women's Health (NY Robotic GYN) and Joon Song.

I would never trust or do business with a guy who works under three different names. Especially a robotic gynecologist, WTF? Wise up people, you're just asking for it…..

I hear ya. Never advertised either. Have more potential jobs than I could possibly handle on my plate now. Passed up more jobs this year than we have done. 10 years of my life dedicated to starting my own business finally paying off. THANKFUL for the work as the first years were tough getting going.

The ones I know using it are service oriented plumbers. They need a lot of calls to keep guys busy daily as they are small jobs. They say as long as no negatives Yelp brings them a lot of work.

I cant disagree LOL , however Yelp sanctioned extortion and the allowance of outright lies are no way to negotiate an business, people use social media as a tool of revenge , ones free speech is in question when it damages other IMO ;)

Not true...If we turn down an applicant for a property because she makes $11/hr and has 17 pit bulls and a 450 credit score, we then get a yelp review about how bad we are, we don't notify people enough, etc.

Nobody wants to accept responsibility for their actions.

Yelp is modern day extortion.. to me it’s literally a mob racket where you pay for protection. I don’t even know how it’s legal.

On that note there are a lot of forums that are basically the same thing

When I had rentals that wasn't unusual. Their car was junk and barely ran as well.
No question they wouldn't pay the rent.

Sadly we are getting a rash of 1 star reviews from a bunch of idiots who can’t understand that hey aren’t the only ones calling into get their AC repaired. We have on call techs and run 7 days a week. For some reason there’s some people out there who feel they should get service immediately and can’t understand the fact that we are slammed and trying to get to everyone but can only do so much.

This somehow results in a negative review form someone who never even did business with us.

Yup. They wait until the last minute, don’t maintain their shit and then complain when it breaks down on the hottest day of the year and we can’t get to them.
These are the same people who bitch and complain about after hours pricing and will scoff when you try and get them set up on a maintenance plan.
