Or should I say, that’s how we roll (sometimes 😆)

Back at Carpenteria state beach for three nights of camping. Like real camping. You know, in a tent. That’s how I was raised and that’s how I prefer it to be honest.

Every time I think about camping, I see memories of my childhood, camping with my parents and their friends. We would all pile into the station wagon and head over to Sequoia or Kings River. My parents and four of us kids. We would all get a beating at some point during the trip 🤣. Whether it was from your older sibling or your dad reaching back, and just punching air, hoping he would connect to who ever was whining. 😆. Ahhh the good old days.

Well here we are at Carpinteria. Back to the basics. Step 1 is to find a wife that is fucking awesome and loves this kinda stuff. I did that in high school. 😄 Wife setup the tent in 10 minutes while I emptied the car which was not much lol.

So awesome. I did it with my grandparents. We would do 3 rivers(kings ) . Sequoias. Many other places Tenting. Sleeping In the station wagon. Bears making me terrified
I wouldn’t trade any of it. And 50 years later some of the best memories of my life.
That said. I still can’t eat trout. I can can catch and clean. Just can’t eat em. I’m sure that makes no sense.

Awe shit. I want to drive down tomorrow and just have beer or some wine with you both.

I spent YEARS camping in a tent with my parents. We probably camped at just about every lake in CA.

Then I spent another 13 years camping with the Cub and Boy Scouts. Hiked all over creation!

Great memories!

Of why I'll my idea of camping now is this...

My parents had that same Coleman stove, it ended up with me. I used it many years before it stopped working. Awesome!!

So that was the basics. If you want to cheat a little, you can drive down half a mile to the center of the town where there are a bunch of restaurants and bars, which is what we did.

Went to Teddy’s while we’re still clean and presentable, and had some tacos and some very proper Tito‘s martinis.

Hey, I said “sometimes” and that is where that fits lol.

I took a group of my Persian buddies camping at Naci over 20 years ago. They are probably still traumatized from sleeping in a tent instead of a 5 star hotel. Lol

They do always bring it up and boating when I see them. They never had so much fun living the hard life in a tent.

What are the odds they are watching a movie on the laptop, with some microwave popcorn...

Vs...

Making s'mores by the campfire?

Hint: They are Camping in a Full Hook Up spot! 😁

… Doesn’t look like munch has changed since I went camping there 70 years ago with my sister and parents… my parents would let me go off by myself…walk across a sort of bridge that led to a mini store to buy some red licorice… on the way back to the campsite… I was able to pick some growing in the wild punk… I’m not too sure what the technical name for punk is… But you can use it to light fire crackers👍

I still run one.👍 is probably close to 30 years old if not.
The Glamis setup.

Shintoooos BBQ is cooler than mine.
I run the Coleman Christmas tree, feeds off one five, 2 ports up the trunk to run the stove and BBQ, and my distorted lantern on top.

Trailer from U Haul and security system provided by endobear.

Shintoooo is doing it right making family memories, even if he cheats by going to a taco joint😂

Where is this?😳
It’s in Carp just about 1/2 mile up the beach from where shin is camping.
It’s a little 2 bedroom but as you see great view.
Bbq and tables for eating on the patio area as well.
I think it was about 4500 - 5k for days which is the shortest amount of time they rent it for. Or it was that way last year at least.
I can get you contact info if you want.

We like to tent camp.
Pulled into a space at Casitas once. Me and the wife started throwing stuff out of the truck. Laid the tent out, set it up, started passing stuff through the tent door and we’re done in about 15 minutes.
People next-door sitting under their chili pepper lit fifth wheel awning, Drinking their old-fashioneds And gin and tonics stood up and started applauding.
Apparently, their Version of going to the ramp and watching the shit show was sitting around on Friday, getting hammered and watching the amateurs!🤣

My folks took me there once with a tow behind travel trailer. Towed it behind the 63 Impala and a Uhaul bumper clamping tow hitch. We had to pull over a few times to take water from the trailer and add it to the radiator. LOL

That was the one and only time I got to do that as a kid.

I made sure my kids had it different. We tent camped a ton, then got an overcab camper and did it more. Towed a Jeep all over the southwest to explore. From south of Ensenada to Whitefish Montana. Just awesome memories. Did ya know the Idaho Potato Museum has the largest collection of potato mashers in the world? Carlsbad Caverns, Mesa Verde with the indian cliff dwellings, Roswell, Antelope Canyon, Big Sur, and on and on.

When my kids now go camping with their friends, my daughter is often the only one who knows how to set up a tent, or work the stove, or even to build a fire. LOL Such a great experience.

I really enjoyed tent camping. Thats how it was growing up--Boy Scouts, etc.
When wife and I married--that was the only way we camped. Told her tent camping was real camping.
That was until a camping trip up at Milerton.

Wife was 4-5mo pregnant. We had air mattress, fans, etc and it was not real hot that weekend--but that was the least of the problems.
We were up there with in-laws and friends so a group of about 25-30ppl--also not the problem.

Went to bed one night, turned off the lights and saw a HUGE spider--now we have problems.
I screamed like a little bitch. Woke our entire group up as well as the next 4 campsites around us.
Wife trys to calm me by saying its outside--I reply screaming "no its not!!!"
I curl up in corner and turn on light. MF'er is inside!! I scream more--now surrounding 8 campsites can hear me and I dont care.
I toss her my slippa and yell at her to get it.
Wife is pregnant, middle of night and killing a spider. In my defense--that SOB was huge, like tarantula huge. but skinnier. Must have been close to 3" in diameter (spider grows each time I tell story)
She kills it. I run out the tent. i make her empty the tent cause Im convinced there are more spiders. So now pregnant wife is upset she had to get up, kill spider and now empty tent in middle of night.

Moral of the story?? You should have seen the beautiful trailer we raised our kids in on camping trips.!
