I keep a large ice chest in my travel trailer to keep my water, beer, sodas etc.... as my fridg isn't big enough to hold these items. As I run low on ice and there is mostly water in it, I noticed that the COORS LIGHT and the WATER BOTTLES are the only items that are floating.

They float 'cause they're empty! Clean out your ice chest and go get some more beer!:p

Seriously now.....Buoyancy

"Buoyancy is what makes a piece of wood float in water. It is also what makes a battleship float on the high seas, or a block of steel float in a pool of liquid mercury. The first principle of buoyancy is very simple: (1) If a solid immersed in a fluid weighs less than an equal volume of the fluid, the solid will float. Another way of saying the same thing is, if a solid has a lower specific gravity than a fluid, the solid will float in that fluid. Specific gravity is defined as the weight of a substance divided by the weight of an equal volume of water (specific gravity of water = 1).

If the first condition is met, then the level at which the solid will float is determined by the second principle: (2) A floating object will displace its own weight in a fluid. Thus, the percentage of the solid immersed in the fluid will be equal to the specific gravity of the solid divided by the specific gravity of the fluid. For a block of wood having a specific gravity of 0.7 floating in water (specific gravity 1.0), 70% of the block will be below the water's surface."

Or were ya just goofin'?

I'll throw a curve ball at ya Sleekcraft..

ALL LIGHT BEERS FLOAT. All regular beers sink!!

Just some random useless knowledge that I picked up from drinking a shitload of beer at the river over the years.. LOL

Don't have the chemistry background to tell you why though.

If ya don't believe me try it!

Got get a regular coors, and it'll sink.. Bud light floats, budweiser sinks. Miller light floats, miller sinks, etc..

Well alchohol is lighter than water,
BUT a bigger factor is the air in the top of the can/bottle.

I once asked a college teacher why light beers float, and normal beers don't.. He looked into it and came back with a relatively long answer that I can't recall.. but it wasn't the air in the can.. LOL

Sometimes ya gotta do what ya gotta do! What better way to screw wit' y'all than throwin' some actual facts in da mix? You know; "If ya can't bedazzle 'em with brilliance, baffle 'em with bull$hit!" Then to really f*ck 'em up, give 'em some facts! Its all in da gig's master plan of things with da ultimate goal bein' WORLD DOMINANCE! Oh, there ya go! Ya went and made da gig show 'is hand! Now da gig has to completely readjust 'is timetable! The world will be mine.....soon!:p Aw f*ckit! I'm gonna go get a Pop Tart!

I once had an engineer ask me how he could get a plastic part we mold for him to float.

I suggested he drop it in water. Dead silence.

The part is molded from Polypropylene. Specific gravity 0.9

Is this a Jet verses Prop thing? :D

I think water temperature and the temp of the can come into play also

On a Lake Powell trip a few years back a bunch of us were playing vollyball off the beach in about 3-4 feet of water, someone on the beach was throwing us beers- (Bud regular) a few missed the catch and the beers sank, a couple hours later they floated to the surface

Cases off Coors lite in cans makes a great raft to paddle back out to your boat moored in Avalon.
