Dang close.
Below it on Yukon [emoji1303]
Actually use an access road off Matterhorn.

Figured it was either that or Yukon. Almost a nose bleed seat during the last fire.

I just returned back home to Big Bear.
Had a first stop early this morning just off the 10 frwy and then had to meet two clients up in the high desert, then looped around back to Big Bear.

Hwy 18 is Grid locked all the way from the top of the mountain into Lucerne Valley. From Lucerne Valley across to Bear Valley Blvd. is also Grid Locked. High volume of vehicles re-routed from the 15 Frwy. diverted in the Mountain areas.
I would highly suggest if anyone has a friend or family member coming from Redlands-San Bernardino trying to get over the Pass into Lucerne-High Desert to book a Hotel room instead. The traffic is BAD.

Just a heads up.

15 Frwy North bound at approx. 12:30 p.m. Temps. @ approx. 102 Degrees.
Radiohead's said the Fire at that point was at 300 acres.
They also said the 15 Frwy was in the process of getting shut down in both directions.

Photos taken in fast lane up on the turbo trying to get around the lookie loo's and slow traffic in the slow lanes.
Got off at 138 exit and made it out of there just in time on the way to the Palmdale area.
The last thing I wanted to do was sit parked on that frwy. :D:thumbsdown

It was growing wicked fast.

... I took a ride up into Big Tujunga Canyon today...The traffic up there was thicker than I have ever seen it on a weekday...I couldn't quite figure out where these people were diverting from or to,...although they could end up on the 138 and come out above where the 15 is closed???...

Just went in the backyard, fire is laying down for the night. Cooler temps outside. Hope for all affected.

Note: The hotel prices are unreasonable in Victorville. Example:

Motel 6, last night $40, tonite $300. And they are not the only one doing it. They all are sold out. I called and checked a few, they should be ashamed of themselves, but they are not. Greedy fucks.

Karma....Will get you, just takes some time.

That's fucked up. I thought there were laws against that type of stuff???

When my house flooded and we stayed at the Boulders in Carefree/Scottsdale they only charged me something like $130. a night. They have special rates for local residents that have a need for shelter during an emergency. I didn't even ask for this. Insurance picked up the tab but we were there for about a month. We had a bungalow, they delivered a bottle of wine to us with a note expressing their concern, delivered treats and filtered water for our pup. A month at the Boulders would cost a mint. They tried to help us instead of gouge us. I will always remember what they did. Classy place for sure and legitimate concern for a community member.

That's fucked. When we had to evacuate from the fires in Malibu 7-8 years ago the four seasons in Westlake had rooms for like 125.00 for evacuees. They also allowed family pets as well

As fucked up as that sounds it also has some upsides, people with other options that don't want to pay the $300 will use them instead freeing up the rooms for others with no options.....

At the end of the day the rooms are all going to be booked up anyway, at least the higher price makes people who don't actually need the room go somewhere else. So there is some silver lining there.

Brown declared a state emergency for this event, as such state law prohibits anything more than a 10% increase and that includes areas outside the immediate area of the incident.

Hopefully folks will scream like a mashed cat over this obvious attempt at price gouging and it gets on the news :thumbsdown

Do hotels work on a sliding scale? Meaning 1 room occupied 99 available the rate is $1 but at 75 available the rate increases to $25 and at one available the rate is 300?
