you purchase the template, then cut as needed. Ship that and they will cut it based on templates and colors you want.
@Ziggy did his boat himself, might be able to provide additional info

Prolly overkill for some simple trailer stuff, I’m thinking just trim it myself with a razor blade after sticking it.

Don’t forget the steps. Kyle did all this for me one year. Had the SeaDek guys come up to the shop and it was installed prior to the repairs being done

Doing it DIY may not get you the finished edge you are looking for. I think the only way to do that is by having it done via laser. I know there are some shops on the east coast in Florida, but they specialize more in skinny water skiffs. Poling platforms, coolers and such.

I did my swim step last summer with Sea Deck. The swim step was fiberglass and my dog was slipping because it was to smooth. I bought a sheet and did everything in my garage. I used poster board to make a template and then used a brand new razor to cut it. Not perfect lines but looks good enough that I am very happy. For a trailer I would not hesitate to do it myself. If you want red I have half a sheet left.

look for EVA foam on ebay and amazon. You can by it in many colors and pattern options very cheap. I have a 4 x 8 laser and can cut it if you want to make templates. It's not that hard to do. Did a boat last year. Not to bad for my first attempt. I'm getting ready to do my Yamaha Ar210 her shortly. My lines weren't perfect but it looks allot better than it did! all this was about $250 in material cost. Not sure what to charge for my time.

This is a cool thread. I bought a roll of this off of Amazon to do some parts on my Rubicon.

Ok Mr. OCD you think you want to do this yourself, lol.
The Gator Step template is the way to go.

Does this stuff have a sticky backing or do you have to glue it down?

Sticky backing. The hard part to me is routing the cut edges to make it look nice. Guys online are using routers.

I’ve got the cnc router. I may give this a try when I do my swim step. If anyone has some leftover and wants to try an experiment...I’m willing to donate the machine time in exchange for the learning experience. Let me know. Max size would be 48x96.

The material has PSA (pressure sensitive adhesive) on the back, so no glue is needed. I have 4 cnc routers as well, but you need a special vacuum hold down and special cutters to cut and hold this stuff in place. If you don't care about the fancy patterns, the laser is the easiest method. The next stuff I'm doing is just all grey with no lines. It should look allot cleaner than the last. The template and patterning is where seadek and other companies get you. The material really isn't very expensive.

Should some tack spray work to hold it down flat to a piece of mdf? I got a small sample piece coming to me in the mail...so I’m going to give it a shot.

My buddy just finished his domin8tor last night. $250 material from amazon. Looked pretty good to me. Made patterns with newspaper and cut it with a razor knife.

I got my sample piece today and promptly dickered it right up. Any idea as to what the special bits are? I know they are not standard v-bits. Looks like it was a ball nose cutter. You do not need a vacuum table for one off pieces. A little tack glue worked well enough. (For production runs...yeah you need a vacuum).

I bought a couple of sheets two years ago and did my swim step as well as the back step on my 270. It came out fine. I made a couple of templates to use while cutting. It keeps the kiddos from slipping. It has held up well.

I checked out the Gator Step website and found that they have a pic of my boat (probably taken from this site) for the Caliber 1 stuff.

I just did this to my trailer this weekend. I order the seadek sheet Material 18X38. Covered all 4 steps with some left over. I made a cardboard template and cut it out with a razor knife. Worked great! It doesn't have the fancy cut around the outside, but I bet nobody will notice that. I have enough left over, I going to put some in front of the winch. There's a flat spot there and I think it work great to cover it up.

not sure exactly, but I think the bits are knurled, not fluted.

My swimstep was slick as ice so I ordered a sheet directly from Seadek. It is now almost two full seasons old. Kids, dogs, fat guy (Me), ice chests, ect. Not a single major scratch or any delamination. Ordered on sheet, laid it flat for a week to unroll/flatten out and cut with a new razor according to my paper template. Ignore the one squiggly part as coors light was also involved in the manufacturing process.... oh, and a bit of sandpaper to roll the edges. Entire time invested 2 hours and cost of less than $350. Well worth it as one broken ass would have cost more.

I'm currently testing out the EVA foam decking from Walmart in their "Faux Teak" design on white backing (comes with an adhesive back) $50 per 3ft x 6.5ft sheet and the shipping was free. https://www.walmart.com/ip/Marine-E...eet-Self-Adhesive-Mat/406309650?selected=true

For the swim step I made templates out of taped together projector screens (remember the old classroom projectors you could write on?) following the non-slip design, outlined with a sharpee and cut with some nice scissors. I still have leftovers too!

I've also been playing around with this material sewed to outdoor grade canvas as well as its ability to hold snaps. The idea here will be to replace the OEM Baja snap-in carpet with this EVA Foam. Eventually I might design a set of pads for the bow to lay out on that I can remove easily.

We're three months in and the material is holding up great. I've had a large dog, skis and plenty of coolers thrown on it and still no delamination, discoloring or stains.

just did this for about $100. Took more time getting the old stuff off than templating , cutting, and installing the new. Not my best work, but should be fine till I change it again !! before and after pictures
