All I can say is WTF,.. I just can't win,....so the idea with this last purchase was to buy a cheep RV, and spend some money to make it how I want it...first off, all the gas rv 's are the same... as in you can get it on a ford chassis, or a ford chassis..the suspension sucks,..rough ride... bump banger...the v-10 does ok,.. but again... you can get a v-10 or a v-10...the 6 speed is ok, but you get 2 overdrives… and with out the 5-star tune, the do a lot of shifting..with the 22k chassis you get 22.5 tires,,,but no good shocks to keep the tires from hopping...and also a 5:13 gear,,, so they tow pretty good...coming back from havasu in the 55 mph zone by searchlight...1500 rpm's...did pretty good...stayed in 6th …. but 5th is just a under drive of 6th, and no way to hold it in that gear...so the word is out... ford is scrapping the V-10....but here's the deal... they are gonna relace the new rv chassis at the show in march...wonder what they are gonna do with the f53????? maybe a twin I beam??? maybe add the dyna ride to the rear??? or a copy of the v-ride on the pushers???pretty sure these will be the areas of concern ...as the twin leaf rear makes for a lot of sway and leaning...away...anyone else here know about this new chassis from ford.....if it's anything like i'm amagining… I'll be buy'n a new RV in 2020....lol... can't win this race...

I have a 2017 Class C 24ft and I think it rides pretty nice with coil springs up front. It seems ro turn about 2300 rpms in 65 in 6th gear.
I find from 6th to 5th gear is very smooth on the downshift. My RV weights a little over 10K. It does not have the room of a class A but I am not a inside guy. I am always outside. Works great for short trips. We tend to take road trips and not stay in a campground too long. It gets boring.

I knew they were scrapping the V10 and going back to a big V8 but other than that they need to bring back the workhorse chassis from Chevy with the Allison
The workhorse setup seems to be the unicorn out here. 9 out of 10 class a's I've come across have been on the Ford platform. I had a 04 adventurer sold from under me because the seller wanted to start a bidding war between me an another buyer..... Even with me having 100's in hand.

I enjoy your posts. Informative, yet entertaining at the same time. Do you enjoy this journey of constant buying, upgrading/fixing, and selling of RV's and Boats? Seems like you spend more time 'wrenching' than using.

You need a YouTube channel. RV reviewer. The Muff Man's Endless Pursuit of The Holy Grail.

I knew about the engine change coming, figured it would time well spent to see how the new motor runs, but, the chassis change is gonna be huge,,, the f53's at best ride like shit... there is just not enough weight on the front end of the shorter chassis...you can do a shit loads of upgrades to the f53's but still far short of the smooth ride of the work horse p32 chassis, I have a 2002 work horse with the 8.1,.. bad ass coach...smooth and quiet...and plenty of power, wife didn't want to go from new coach to a 2002, even though it's clean and nice... I did some upgrades, like custom installed a 43'' tv in the front,.. 32'' in the bed room on inverter..my goal is to be down to just one coach that does everything pretty good,, and that's where the intent fits in.... but damn,.. the wonder of the new chassis and what they are gonna do is gonna weight heavy on me..guess we'll see when they unvail it in march....

the problem with the C class is that under powered motor, the light weight chassis, the 16'' wheels, the little rear end and brakes.... then add the fold out futon bed in the rear that you have to put the pop out out to sleep in it..i'm on the road a lot and just wanna pull o0ver and go to sleep.. I have property in northern nv, bullhead, and havasu…. always some reason I have to go... just got back from havasu, had to go pay for the block wall and check on the house...probley get the CO any day...that's another problem... wife wants to keep the havasu house and for me to quit working and retire... I know if I sell the havasu house i'll start building in bull head... wife doesn't like that idea at all... I still think that at 65 I have a few years left..

Whats the depreciation curve on dumping new RV's ? Seems like you have a connection, or are a real good negotiator and come out clean. The rest of us would be squeeky clean from taking a bath every 3 months lol
I sold my pace arrow for 9k more than I paid, plus got a 13k tax credit,.. so no sales tax on the new one I just got..so I got a fat check and a new coach 40k off msrp...

I just don’t understand (maybe I missed your reasoning) that you thought it would be better coming from a DP to a gasser and you would be happy. Gassers ride like crap, and it’s a big reason we haven’t bought one. I’ve been been to spoiled to have the opportunity to borrow my parents DP time to time and they are so smooth to drive.

This small Class C we have has a lot of power. I pull my Jeep like it not even there. I go up the Cayon Pass at 55 with no problem.
We use our RV at Glamis and road trips.

This is partly why I have never got rid of my Super C on the kodiak chassis. The 8.1/allison combo is a beast, out runs all the Pushers we travel with no problem until I hook 10K to it (30K combined), then it runs about the same in the hills. The ride was *ok*, but not great. I did some airbags in the back, track bars, bilstein comfitrac's, etc. Now the ride is much better and quieter, but still not quite DP level.

I certainly hope fords new V8 is awesome, or the new workhorse chassis gets used to build new super C's at least. I would love to have an F650 with a Big V8 in a Super C platform, or the new workhorse if they had a big V8 option.

Ive tried quite a few RV's and there is no perfect solution, obviously. But what I currently have works the best for what we do. Now...if only i could find a front axle and t case out of a 4wd kodiak to put under my moho...Id be set!

steve....you...are nuts...i am blown away... at all... the vehicles and boats... you buy..you should really just...open a car/boat/RV lot...buy a bunch of inventory... and just rotate through it...as that would be much easier than...just having one at a time...wouldn't you think....Plus I love reading your stuff...but you really need to use paragraphs and what...is up with all the ellipses?...is this your new thing? :D

That size is the sweet spot for Class C's, as far as power and towing. 26' ? Not alot of rear overhang so they handle tongue weight well, E450 chassis with the 4.55 gears

You really don’t get 40k off of MSRP , just like pick ups and SUV’s , the manufacture artificially raises the sticker and then discounts so we think we got a great deal .

I'm surprised you would even want another ford chassis, after driving pushers? You can't even compare the drive / ride.

That 34' alpine you had seemed like the perfect ticket.

Another thing that is nice on a C platform is that the sun is not in your face and you have a normal cab with airbags.

I heard the new Ford chassis will be the Mustang with a 4 banger:)....... I looked at Fords site, they offer the F350DRW and F450DRW chassis with the gas V-10?

Whats up with that?

I miss having an RV. It will be one of the next major purchases for us.

I too enjoy following along with your vehicle ADD Steve. It's fun to watch you fix and flip these RV's. If you are able to come out clean or ahead, more power to you.

you need to sell me on the class C, but, my wife calls them crampers… when you take the total unuseable 6' off the front you spend the time in a 18' coach...I'm a van down by the river guy, and I run with scissors..when I don't want the sun in my eyes I drp the front shade...like I said the big no go for us is there is no bed...

freight shaker dp's ride worse than crap... but here's the deal... where we go off roading , the 1.5" of suspension travel on the freight shaker wasn't cutting it... the coach was twisting like a loaf of bread and I thought the windshield was gonna pop out.... not made for ruff terrain,... or bumpy roads.... my new gasser rides every bit as nice as the freight shaker... and more quiet.... not as quiet as the work horse... but i'm getting there...

here's another thing, C vs A... they cost about the same and the A gets better mpg, with the A you get the front two seat as extra room and seating...the cab over bunk is a waist of space... good for throwing your coat when you come in..the little tires they come with go first when I get one.. , but you still have the small brakes and rear end..and the springs are loaded to the max on the rear... I usually add a leaf... but still a work out to haul my trailer...we take a loaded 22' trailer to the dunes with 2 rzr's

Thats why the super's are cool for my use. You get 19.5/22.5's, legit towing capacity, big axles, etc. Plus, I believe most class c's are 8' wide and most supers are 102"? Mine sure seems way bigger inside than a normal C. We like the overhead bed, I actually took the entertainment center out, and we make all the kids sleep up there so we don't have to make the dinette/couch up/down into beds. Ours has a king in the back, decent sized bathroom, HUGE storage under the rear bed (I can put kids dirt bikes in there, like a toy hauler), and I'm only 32'9" long overall. AND...tons of ground clearance for going offroad. I can take it quite a few places I couldn't take my truck/5th wheel.

This is my Dads supernova on the IH DT4200 chassis, and my conquest on the 5500 kodiak. My 8.1/ally runs circles around his VT365 diesel, were fixing to Stud and tune it so it will keep up.

I hope soon to have time to desticker/wet sand/buff mine, paint the cab white, and find a front axle/t case for it from a 4wd kodiak. I've been looking for a few years with not much luck.

I used my parents Monaco (freightliner chassis) for years camping in glamis and ocotillo and it was smooth, it was 40' non tag. I do believe the 2 piece front window as this had as it was an 02' made a difference with the flexing, as it did move around driving through the washes, but nothing to crazy.

Now their 13' or 14' Allegro bus 42' with tag is rock solid. But you wouldn't catch me cruising that through Glamis. Point 16 at pirates cove is the only off roading that one sees as its to nice. Allegro builds their own chassis and lowers the engine to help with the weight being lower to the ground.

Both units have been quiet with little road noise, heard more wind noise with the Monaco than the Allegro. But that is an 02' vs 13' model year as well.

Good luck for what ever you do. I'm sure salesmen love you when you show up.....

Over 30 years I’ve owned everything from a 23’ C to a 45 classA and put plenty of miles towing trailers, hands down the Super C is the best for our use.

I would drive our class A with the shade down 2ft most of the time. The heat coming in the cab was crazy during the summer months.

My next Class C will be like our old one with a walk around rear bed and a living room slide. I never even think about my brakes. I step on the pedal and it stops like a car. The most I tow is my jeep and it has brakes. We will make 6 Glamis trips this year and a couple small summer trips. Other then that it will be parked in the garage.

2FF is so damn funny! Like you're only going to purchase ONE motorhome in 2020! LMAO!! My bet is you will buy and sell as many in 2020 as you did in 2018! :D

After (2) Dp's I went with a Super C, 8.9l Cummins with a 20k towing capacity.
I like driving the Super C as compared to a Dp it has a lot less body roll especially in a side wind situation. Mileage varys Im always towing @65mph over 10mpg. after 75mph it drops to 7-8mpg.

Try to buy that Alpine back. Even with a repair or two, you be stress, money, and time ahead.

Camping more often instead of buying, improving, selling, etc

I have a 2003, 31 ft, V10 Mini-Winnie. Walk around bed & a super slide for the living room. Very functionable & will probably keep it forever, but it drives like shit. One of the bounciest rides you'll ever have. I lifted the rear to keep a propane tank form scraping, which didn't help the ride, added suspension sway stabilizers (something like that) & jacks.

Nice & functionable, just a rough ride. But no biggy. I drive it for hours & park it for days, weeks, months.

If I did ever buy another one, which I don't plan on, it would be a DP though.

Those Class C with the huge overhang are a pain in the ass to drive and worthless to tow with.

I know it will come with the new 7.3 big block but the rest of it will stay pretty close to what you have, the f53/f59 chassis is the old Oshkosh chassis

I do R&D work for a suspension company, word on the hush hush is there is a whole new chassis coming...unveiled in march...I know a few years back ford ended the contract with the company that was building their chassis'... and went back to inhouse...the reason for this thread was to find out more about whats going on... pretty sure it top secret as to not disrupt all the sale of the coaches out there on lots,... dealers know nothing about it... ford is good with that as when they went to the 6 speed dealers didn't even know they had some on their lots....the new f53 , copy of the osh gosh was the big game changer... bigger brakes, 5 speed trans ...19.5 wheels, but it rode like shit... the bilstiens on them are junk, fords cheep copy and bad valving,.. putting bilstiens from bilstien in stead of the ford version makes a big difference...I would think that ford figured out that a straight axel front on small class A's is not ever gonna work..the spring rate and progression has to be too stiff to stop body roll,.. and the parallel leafs in the rear combind' with parallel in the front will have you all over the road if you start saw'n at the steering wheel.. over correcting causing you white knuckeled...I have taught people to drive rv's that they claimed to be unsafe to drive..but again... this thread was a notice that something new from ford is coming, so if you are on the fence about buying a new rv... wait till march... those that know aren't gonna say....but it is coming..

Mine with 16 inch tires and pretty low gears works great. in 6th gear I am running around 2200 to 2300 at 65. When it drops down to 5th it bumps up about 400 rpms. I willl never tow over 6K pounds with this package.
