UH OHHHHH!!!

I'm signed up for it in MoVal, but they haven't pulled the trigger on our ac yet.
Maybe MoVal is higher up in the pecking order than I thought. :skull:skull:p

I was on the cycling program for 4 years and they never shut me down. One week we had a 100+ degree heatwave and no air - not until after 9:00 pm. After the second day I dropped out of the program, call me a wuss, but I'm now a comfortable wuss.

Was comparing bills not even sure how much I am saving.
This year 1376.00 30 45.87 $ 259.84 .188
Last year 1357.00 31 43.77 $ 268.27 .197

Not even a penny per KWH..:grumble:

So let me get this straight...they want you to sign up for a program that shuts off your A/C on the days that you need it most?

How does that make sense?
If I really needed that $10/month it would make more sense for me to just turn my own damned A/C off.

Why would anyone allow someone else to be incharge of there ac. That's retarded. I keep my house at 78 and 80 24 hrs a day 7 days a week. My bill has never been crazy. I also went thru my house and sealed cracks and windows and attic ducting. Also put an attic fan. Had a friend who was on the sce shutdown thing for 3 months last year it saved him only 75 bucks the whole 3 months. I'll gladly pay 25 more a month to be comfortable. I just won't eat out one night to make up for it.

Sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do. I've never done it but they just installed it last week. I haven't been working since last October. We are making things work just fine but every little bit helps. I've called DirecTV, Verizon for phone and internet, and ADT and gotten all my bills reduced as well. Mine did not turn off today but we have patio covers and tint where need be and the house is only 5 years old so dual pane and insulation and all that jazz. Open up the joint in the evening and let mother nature cool her down. Ceiling fans work well too.

i am on the program ... got shut off today. i think this was the first time in 5 years that i have been shut off.

doesn't bother me really ... my wife took the kid to the shopping center and i had to come to work anyways.

i spoke to my wife about an hour ago and she said that the air was only off for about 2 hours.

it's all good now ... like i said, no biggie.

Well the house only got to 79(before I left) and they turn it off for around 20-30mins then back on for 10. Still sucks for the savings.

I am on the phone right now canceling it. What a crock of shit this is. It is written that the service would be intermittently shut down on bad days. Fucking thing shuts off every day its over 90.

Fuck that, i signed up for the occasional outage(between 8 and 6)

It was still off at 6:15 ... I think I just heard the compressor kick on but no more. Its not worth it for 10 bucks a month.

Dear Mr. Forensic,

We at SCE are pleased you are enjoying your air conditioner cycling service. If you wish to increase your outage time and enjoy additional savings of .02 per month, press 1. If you wish to keep your outage time the same, press 2. If you wish to discontinue the program please hold for a representative to schedule an appointment. Appointments are currently being scheduled for mid-November. Thank you for contacting SCE and have a nice day.

I think SCE advertised it as saving you $125-$200 per year. In a year where they had just reamed me with an $875 bill in August, being in the good graces of SCE and saving a couple hundred bucks sounded pretty good!

Our ac still has not been shut off once that I know of in the last 3 years. Knock on wood!!:bash:

:rotflmao: same for me 72* doesnt cost much more than having the programable t-stat having it go up and down.

875 holy crap!!!! That's like 2 car payments. That's crazy. U must have a big house or sumthin. I live in a shoe box of a house and my bill has never been over 250 ever since I set my house at 82 during the day and 78 at night. Been doing that for 4 years and never had a bill above 250. I also use fans in every room for extra circulation. 875 would send my ass to the poor house.

Exactly! In times gone by, that would have made my house payment!

Frankly, I think it's criminal that they can charge you more $$$ for the same unit of power. That would be like me going out and buying a boat for $30k, and then buying a 2nd boat that is identical...and having to pay $50k for that one because I have a greater need than the next guy. Same damned boat---but it costs more money because I do more boating.

That is what they do with the power. I get charged triple for the same unit of power if I use more than what the utilities commission says I can use. IT'S BULLSHIT!!!

Here's another analogy: Do you pay more for your 5th, 6th, 7th gallon of gas than you did for your 1st gallon?????? :bash::bash::bash::bash:

And no, I am no baller. 24 year-old house--2-story, 2200sq. ft., swimming pool, 1 extra fridge in the garage. Same as I have had for 10 years, but 4 or 5 years ago they jacked up the rates astronomically and then brought them back down a little....kinda like the oil companies do with fuel prices.
My power bills this summer have been in the high $300's. Still not where they should be IMO, but better than $800. :monkey:

Oh crap....is this bordering on being a political gripe thread??!!

HeHeHe.....these stories crack me up. When I sold my AC biz @ 4 yrs ago
I took a job (even though I wasn't really looking for 1) as the Ops mgr for the company that SDG&E uses to run it's demand response program. Holy crap people get NASTY when you shut their air off even though they signed up for the program. I was getting abused so badly I quit after a couple months and went back to being retired. Oh and by the way SDG&E is currently installing "smart meters" so they can shut off your entire house without notice or permission....we are all so screwed.

Oh....forgot to mention that I got my notice yesterday that informs me that SCE is installing 5 million smart meters ......soon to all of SoCal customers, to replace the old rotary style meters that we currently have. They are doing this, they say, in order to "help us manage our power consumption better". (The new meters bring total minute by minute monitoring of every individual customer.)

REALLY?????

What do I need to manage. I use the power. I pay for the power. Sounds pretty simple....................................unless of course SCE would like to start charging their customers more $$$$$$$ for using the same unit of power during "peak" times! Then it would make sense why they want to know, to the minute, when you are using that power. It's an excuse to charge double or triple the rate!

I really do not understand how this is legal. :monkey:
With power rates where they are currently, I spend as much or more on power as I do on gasoline in the family car every month. I don't need the power companies penalizing me more for consuming the very product that they are trying to sell me!

I installed a MasterCool two years ago and signed up for the SCE deal and went for the whole deal they can turn me off whenever they want. I haven't used my AC for two years and my August bill was $103.00. Summer bills were in the three to four hundred dollar range before.

They put one on my house about 2 weeks ago. I think it's more for them. Walking metermaids will be a thing of the past. Now they will just drive by ur house and ur meter sends a signal to there computer and that's it. So I've been told. It's going to be interesting if this digital one is gonna be more efficiant than the old rotary one. If my bill increases at all imma huff and puff and end up just dealin with it cause really who the fock at SCE is gonna listen to my pee on ass. :p

Wife signed up for the deal years ago, they came and installed a little box out by the A/C unit. A/C went out, had to by a new unit and didn't re-install their little box. Still get the discount, it's been about 4 years.:D
