Been a tough week to say the least
So talked to the guy I had sold my dually to couple years ago
Told him if he ever decided to sell it let me know
Well he did
So I have a little dilemma
I could sell my 2020 Silverado and buy back the 1989 dually
2020
Better mileage
Probably more reliable
Looks ok
Way more practical
1989
Looks bad ass
Killer stereo
Super fun to drive
Shityyyy mileage
Bitch to find parking
So of course the smart thing to do is just keep the Silverado
But never been the smartest

Both aren’t an option?
Do you use the bed much to haul stuff? 8’ vs 5 3/4’.

Mileage would probably be the biggest factor.

Fuel cost
Comfort
Satisfaction of driving

All things to consider.
Either way, you’ll have a nice truck.

If you like torturing yourself sell the newer truck and buy back the older one. If you just want something that is simple keep the newer truck.

Boys gotta taste for the whip... but lets not discount the cool factor of driving that square body around

My first thought is to keep the 2020, but with all these threads about the newer engines and transmissions I'm not so sure. You could always buy the dually and slam it.😂

After giving my 4Runner to my daughter to drive when she turned 16, I have started using my ‘03 4wd CCLB DMax as a daily driver. Not a dually, but still a total PITA. That ‘89 is bad ass, but would be an absolute nightmare for you after getting out of the ‘20. You’d be kicking your own ass in a daily basis.

So, with that being said, have fun in the ‘89!

I’ve always loved that dually. Wish I could’ve bought it back when you were selling it.

I say buy it back!

You can always get a newer truck but finding a clean square body is getting harder and harder.

What is the new truck worth (what could you sell it for) and what does he want for the '89?

I don't miss my 89 dually one bit. It had everything Edelbrock made. Alcoas Leer shell. Almost 90k miles. Got 5k for it. Was lucky to get 8mpg. Last night no traffic average 77mph. I got over 20mpg in My 2021 gas 2500hd. Amazing how good the fuel mileage is with no traffic.

As a guy who's only truck currently is a 40yo Chevy: If you have the new one paid for, keep it. If they are both somewhat the same cost, keep the new one. The cost of fuel is steadily rising, so usage wise you'll be able to drive the new one more. The old CC A/C kind of sucks, so not the best for river runs. The newer truck can still tow a boat just fine as well. There's a good chance the new truck has more hp and torque than the old 454 as well.

I'm a big fan of old crap...but a newer truck serves a lot of purposes a lot better. Then again, I'm just a poor redneck.

My dually only left the garage to tow the boat someplace for a reason or 10.

Probably why you sold it in the first place.

Keep the 2020.

The 89 has 31 years of problems just waiting for you ahead of your 2020.

To be clear.
What we are talking about is what is claimed to be basically a financial straight swap from a modern year technically advanced truck to a 34 year old gas guzzler that you already sold once?
You can’t be serious?
I’d give $12K for the dually as a novelty resto…tops.

My 8 year old Tacoma can do about everything better than both of those....Keep the newer truck....the only reason to have something older in CA is if it's smog exempt...which an '89 isn't. Don't waste your time with it

both around 35k
Man, that's high. At least it would be around here.
I tried to sell my Dually a few years back. I was asking 7500 bucks for it. Nothing but tire kickers responded. So I took it off the market. Re-painted the top and hood, put 6 new tires on it, asked $8500 for it. Still nobody was interested. Oh well.
It's paid for and I pay a whopping $3.50 for the personal property taxes, so I think I'll just keep it !

You’re no spring chicken Dan, and we’ll look at how you were cruising around SCFW. The dually is bad asF however it’s not practical, harder to get into, and simply just won’t be that comfortable on the road.

I’d fix the ticking time bomb transmission (if 6 speed) on the 2020 and keep it.

If they are clean, The values have gone up on them. A clean crew cab short bed that was nice but not over the top went for over a 100k at BJ.
Is the short bed a custom deal? I didn’t think they ever made a short bed crew, cab square body?
