Drag-racing fans can debate whether John Force ever "owned" Don "The Snake" Prudhomme on the racetrack.

But legally and officially recorded at Indiana's Hendricks County Courthouse, Force today owns a part of what once was the centerpiece of the Prudhomme racing empire.

The 15-time Funny Car champion has purchased five acres of land just across Southpoint Circle in Brownsburg, Ind., from his John Force Racing headquarters.

It includes the race-shop building that was Snake Racing's hub, as well as the vacant lot that stands between the facility and Northfield Drive, the main road through what some loosely refer to as "Nitro Alley."

The former Snake Racing facility still houses one of Chip Ganassi's three IZOD IndyCar Series teams, that of Charlie Kimball.

Prudhomme's property had two buildings, and Force bought only the close-to-Northfield one.

Force told Bart Doan of the Hendricks County Flyer newspaper in an article published Jan. 19, "I have the option by June or July to buy another five acres.

"I need to build on that front lot, because when you have an empty lot out in the opening, it looks like things aren't growing," Force said.

He said that the city of Brownsburg "almost had a deal put together," but he never specified what he intended to do. JFR Brownsburg facility manager Kelly Antonelli told Competition Plus that Force hasn't finalized plans yet for that site.

"I'm going to go back to them in the next month," Force said, referring to the economic development council and other authorities in the suburban Indianapolis city. "Brownsburg is willing to work with me."

Force and Brownsburg Town Manager Gene Kleinhenz both spoke of this project adding jobs, building buildings, and, in the racer's words, "bringing more businesses."

"I need Prudhomme's land so we can grow," Force told Doan. "The whole idea is bringing more businesses. I have all the support of the racers. Brownsburg's got really good people. The whole idea is bringing in more workers, more businesses, people interested in rentals. We have a ways to go."

Force still has his Yorba Linda, Calif., facility, which contains the Ashley Force Hood-led John Force Entertainment.

So is he leaving Yorba Linda?

He's been gone from YL for a few years now. His central operation is Indiana. Its cheaper to be central in the country than on the West Coast always heading East.

Some operations are still in YL but its limited. The majority of the fuelers are all in the midwest for the cost vs. location vs. race location savings

This was from an interview he did back in 2010

John Force loves it in Indiana.

He credits tax breaks and other assistance local government officials have given him for his ability to grow his 60-employee operation at his 150,000-square-foot shop in Brownsburg.

But it?s not just about the tax breaks, Force said. It?s personal attention. He admits the area?s central location, roadway system and proximity to other NHRA teams and parts makers is also part of the allure.

But Force said it all starts with Brownsburg?s initiative to make it beneficial for drag racing teams to call the city home.

Force also has operations for his National Hot Rod Association team in California, but said he?s slowly moved 90 percent of his operation to central Indiana. Force will be spending lots of time in Indiana soon as the Mac Tools U.S. Nationals run Sept. 1-6 at O'Reilly Raceway Park.

?I love California, it?s a beautiful place,? Force said. ?But government officials there, they?re running everybody out. It takes me four to six months to get a meeting with any California [government official]. I make a call in Indiana and I get a sit-down meeting within a week. It?s fantastic.

?The [Brownsburg] police chief just stops by our facility and asks if there?s anything he can do for us. The mayor too is extremely helpful.?

Force added that county and state officials have also bent over backward to make sure his and other NHRA team operations in Brownsburg have what they need to grow. He said the assistance has been especially helpful over the last two years as NHRA teams have chugged through a difficult economy.

?Heck, [Lt. Gov.] Becky Skillman came out and spent a half a day with us at the race last year, just to learn more about our operation, and to see what the state could do to help us grow,? Force said.

Though he?s not native to this area, Force, 61, said he considers himself a member of the Indiana family.

?I?m a Hoosier golldangit,? Force said. ?I simply love it there. I love it so much, hell, I don?t know, I may run for mayor some day.?

Sounds like he is going to develop and rent space to other teams as well as expand his shop. We went through the development last year were some of the big teams are headquartered. The DSR building is the largest, maybe the size of a Super Walmart. V&H, Pedregon's, Force, DSR, Kenny Bernstein, Snake, are some of the large players in there.

So is he leaving Yorba Linda?

Yorba Linda is where the main office, museum and gift store is. I see Walker Force at the gym all the time here in Yorba Linda. He is the VP or something like that.

Are any of the hauler's or FC's ever worked on at the YL location anymore? I remember years ago I used to go down too the YL shop and look at the hauler's and cars after a Pomona race.:thumbsup

Yes they are. There should be a bunch of haulers there pretty soon for the Pomona race.

For the west coast swing they usually use the YL location.

He just finished up a home in Yorba Linda, I'm sure it's not the only one though. He basically took the top off of a mountain and built a huge pad.

Sounds sweet. Back when his TV was on, it looked like he was living in Eastlake Village. I'm looking forward to the Winternationals in a few weeks..!!!

His wife lives in that house now. They have stayed married but don't live together anymore. Much cheaper than a divorce.

Morgan Lucas racing is right up the street from there. When we went to Lucas for a visit I remember seeing all the big names in that same area. Literally in about 5-6 sq miles.

Yep. He bought the old Yorba ranch property and built a HUGE home on top. I have been by the entrance but haven't been inside the compound. :D
