My havasu pool filter took a crap today, split, and is now leaking (see pic). My pool guy will have a new one installed on Monday but I was wondering if anyone had a suggestion to stop the leak so I can run the filter this weekend.

JB weld?

Same happened to my sons filter housing. Some good sanding inside/out at the crack and a generous coating of Marine Tex(JB Weld like) inside and out and its been fine for several months so far:thumbsup

I wonder if you could epoxy a patch from the inside? Clean the filter so the head pressure is low.

Clean it up real good, sand it, and then some Home Depot fiberglass and resin. It's easy and cheap.

Don't run it.....not worth the risk of blowing out and partially draining pool. Also looks like the water will be shooting right on the pump motor. Not a good spot to be in......new filter housing on Monday, only have to tear the filter down once. Gonna be storming all weekend, get it replaced Monday and the filters cleaned and clean up pool then. If you're worried about chems, use a little liquid chlorine. I have seen many repairs to filter housing only to break in another spot soon!!!

Mine cracked like that. I called Pentair, they replaced it for free under warranty and it was about 10 years old. Shipped a brand new one to my house.

I talked to them. They comped you cause they didn't want to get sued for keeping the little man down. Lucky.:D

Funny I had a pool ordeal today.

So I've been hearing the leveler run at night. I can hear it in our bathroom as the fitting is tapped into the hose bib right outside the wall. I figured its been hot and probably takes quite a bit of water to compensate for evaporation. But then I notice it runs all the fuckin time. Day and night.

So this afternoon I get a free minute and I figure I'm gonna see what I can see. Flip on the pump, and its right there at the pump. The screw in 2" fitting. Ok well it's a new pump. I changed it last year, but I had the old pump rebuilt a couple of times too. So the 4' of pipe had at least 5 couplers in it. I figure I should start fresh. New elbows, pipe and fittings. No couplers. Lol.

I do the HD run. Get all my shit. Cut it, dry fit it, glue it all together. Paint it black again. Wait two hours and test it. Wouldn't you know one of the elbows is cracked. Seriously??? It's all brand new. Fml. Lol. So back to Home Depot. New everything again. Ran it, no leaks this time. Paint it again.

Looks like I'm good for a couple of years again.

Fuck pools.

I have yet complete a home repair with only one trip to HD. It always takes at least two, sometimes three trips.

Use that Billy Mays spray on stuff. If it will fix a gutter and make a screen door float your pool filter should be a piece of cake. Or one of his other commercials. Magic putty..... lol

JB weld the inside, fiberglass the outside, coat both side with the Billy Mays stuff, then wrap it with duct tape and use a cookie sheet for a scatter shield, just in case.
Or maybe call Chicken-Dan, he's a real McGyver.

I had the same problem, go to Crystaliner (sp) in Costa Mesa. They have everything you will need to fix this & will probably tell you what you need & how to fix it, really helpful staff. My repairs are going on 3 years, my pool guy can't believe it.

In all honesty, Marine-Tex and some mesh drywall tape would be my choice.

There are very less I seen that the pool filter get cracks. But as other said its not a big problem you have to wash the pool and fill the sand. Use a piece of silicone at the crack.
