I have nothing add except...
Imagine how much cheaper and how much less shit we would have to buy and store if we didn't need metric and SAE. It's an incredibly stupid problem to still have.
I bought the Harbor Freight Pittsburg set https://www.harborfreight.com/mechanics-tool-set-301-pc-63464.html . With a coupon you can get it for 150 bucks. I use it in my garage, and then the handy case allows me to throw it in the truck when we go off roading or camping. In the 5 years I have had it, I have never had one issue with anything breaking. i'm thinking of getting another so I don't have to move the one set around.

I bought this kit for the sockets and attachments alone. Supplement with the HF composite ratchets, some extensions, two sets of the HF box end wrenches (SAE & Metric), a set of the Quinn screw drivers, and a set of the Quinn pliers. All from Harbor Freight, and you're probably out the door for around $300+tax. Unless you make a living with your tools, I don't see the value in spending more money on basic hand tools.
Well it’s pretty!Bump. Organizing my garage and I think I’m going to toss my mismatched shitty desert tools and buy a Boxo tool box for the river and off-roading.
Anyone buy one of there sets? Looking at this.

I won’t even go down down the 6pt vrs 12pt socket road and then storing them on their own peg....
I like the Hansen style peg holders

I've got one of their extendable handle 1/2" ratchets that I love! Thing has served me quite well and doubles as a breaker bar.I bought this kit for the sockets and attachments alone. Speaking of cats, look who the cat drug in.I own a tremendous amount of tools located in my garage, my shop, various work trucks including my own personal truck. Like said, you just can't have to many.
Side note: I no longer own any 10 or 12 mm sockets. They are like feral cats.
That box was built around years of random mishaps and “I won’t be without this again”. Solid.Well it’s pretty!
But I think you could put something together yourself cheaper and more tailored to your needs.
And! I see things missing I’d want in my box. Number one being?? A hammer, lol.
I put this stuff together around 01-02ish and has served me well over the years.
Total mismatch stuff,(read sales items or extra sets I already had) Pittsburgh/HF stuff, some craftsman, etc. but it’s fairly organized
I know it isn’t so pretty anymore, it’s been around, lol.

Harbor FreightI guess my biggest gripe with my mismatched tools is missing certain sockets and not wanting to buy individual sockets. The cost adds up, at the same time. I already have a shit ton of random sockets and don’t need more... View attachment 910218
Out of my “shitty desert kit”.

Hear you on that. Not a sears store for 50 miles from me now. We have an appliance outlet. I'm not making 2 trips for a socket I already have in another flavor. The HF handtool analogy:
A Bayliner provides you with a great day on the water just like an Eliminator but without the expensive reputation.
.
I have yet to split a HF socket, but I have a handful of Craftsmen ones I was going to get lifetime replacement.
I wonder if the Magic powerboats buyers thought the same thing...?The HF handtool analogy:
