So I called a shop in Havasu that I use to detail my boat to get a quote on polishing the toons on my wifes rig. I was a bit shocked, $1200 to polish the toons on a 22 foot boat. Am I missing something here, is it that difficult / complicated? For that amount of $$$ I wouldnt mind spending a Saturday and a 6 pack doing it myself if its not all that difficult.

I would just clean them up. The polish does not last long on toons. IMO, it is not worth the $$$$

We had ours done by shimmer in Havasu and paid right at that price for our 22.5 premier.

My dad had it done and personally I think the work was just so/so and it was a huge waste of $$$.

It does dress up a turd a little but the price just seems retarded for $250 worth of labor and supplies. (I know they have tweakers working there for cheap so they made big $$$ on the job)

Life is TOO short and money is too scarce to polish toons, IMHO.

Do they polish it up like the guy at the boat show that polishes the Coors cans to look like chrome (with the magic stuff he sells) ?

That would be kinda cool, but I'm sure it wouldn't last long.

It isnt cheap to do but no way to give a price without looking at it first. Lots of labor involved to do it right. After all is done you need to add Sharks Hide on it to keep it looking that way.

Dude.......................

You're already effin' up the entire theory behind buying a low maintenance boat like a tri-toon. Save the OCD for the DCB.

I wouldnt waste the money polishing them up. Get them as clean as you can and leave them alone.

One a Day,

Do a search on here for powder coat clear on the toons.

Someone did it, said it lasted pretty good, I forgot the price but if it lasts a season, cheaper than polishing a few times.

We polish our fuel tanks, rims on our Kenworth, dirty, long crappy job for sure.

This is going to be a challenging adjustment for me. I will be the guy anchoring the toon off the beach instead of scratching the bottoms. I will evolve.

Rat tail file and three beers took care of 2 years of beaches. Looked good as new. Don't be gay.

We had the gelcoated toons. So far it's holding up pretty well (and playcraft pontoons are notoriously hard to polish). Had one spot where the gelcoat started to chip but we have a warranty so no worries, they're fixing it.

Just polishing is pointless, one trip and anything below the waterline is effed.

Walt as others have said, the best part of the 'toon deal is just putting it on the trailer and calling it a day. No muss no fuss :thumbsup

Have Jesse at Adrenaline Detail acid wash and shark hide them, they'll look good and last alot longer, and much cheaper! 928 230-8598

I know a lot of people that have polished their pontoons, but no one that would do it again.
