Since Christmas is coming up and I knew there was some chat about Power Wheels. I thought a few of you guys would enjoy this Popular Mechanics article about hopping them up. We don't have kids but I know if we did I would be tinkering with their Power Wheels! :)

By the way, Popular Mechanics is such a fun magazine. Thanks to my pops for the subscription.

Hopefully the photo I took is readable.

I converted all my kids power wheels to 18v, 24v smoked the plastic gears in the boxes. It’s awesome for camping trips, drill batteries charge quick and I have 8 of them! They’re about 2x faster than the 12v boat anchors they come with.

I still don’t grasp why the manufacturers don’t offer a solution in rubber or rubber coated. I keep saying I’m going to do the bike tire screwed to the plastic for my boy, but he’s the neutral bomb king. Reverse for 10’ yank that sob into high and never lift, spin out drifting lol.

Rubber tires shred the gears. Something has to give.

Haha that brought back a memory of me in my Bigfoot Power wheel. Hammer it in reverse and then flip the switch to forward so I could spin the tires. I loved it.

Going past 24v smokes the motors unless you step up to rc car motors. Anything high power smokes the gears. Anything traction wise breaks gears too. My kids car currently has 48v batteries in it with a variable throttle and a dual hbridge speed controller setup that eases into the throttle. I’ve also tossed a real Bluetooth radio head unit into it along with 4x kicker speakers. Full led lights, real car horn (a blessing and a curse). Built a dual axle trailer and hitch to tow her other cars around on. I’ve switched to a set of 4x 12v 8ah batteries and I also have 3 packs of 36v lithium ion batteries. This year she’s getting a monster truck that daddy will hop up with a scooter motor chain drive and a solid rear axle. Her brother started driving her truck and screams “trailer! Trailer!”

can’t wait to see your mods! Kids love this stuff!

I had a big wheel.. Loved that thing.. Then I had a radio flyer that was awesome as well.

My kids have had the dirt duner (green car with 2 speeds) I bought my youngest this little electric audi that we had for a year. I don't know if I want another one of these pain in the ass, take up space on my garage floor fucking electric cars.. but my youngest can't reach the pedals on the ranger 150 yet (nor do I trust her with it), and she doesn't even know how to ride a bike because my ankle if F'd.. Now I'm not sure if I'll ever be able to teach her. :( Maybe I'll get another electric car just for her.

Hummm... walking into the garage after work and spot this little 6 volt gem. Been around here for about 2+ years and he's lost interest in it. Wonder what a high amp hour 12 volt battery do to it...probably smoke that little motor but there's more where that came from. Gonna play with this and see where it goes.

On another note remember that electric scooter I was gonna boost? Well now I'm thinking to take that battery pack, 300 amp controller and motor and apply it to that Grave Digger ride. That thing would rip. :D

Also got a used 12 volt Mustang I can play with. Gonna be some good times with Levi making some modes in the garage...stay tuned.

My version of a power wheels. Tonka truck for scale. Used Mitsubishi starter motor. Full size car battery went upfront. These are made for full-size adults. Had about six or seven friends that had them also. Most had harbor freight hand truck wheels. I put four in go-kart slicks on mine.
They left pretty hard, and topped out about 14 miles an hour. Mine would u turn in about eight feet. Had a few beers and they were a blast.but head on collisions with a closing speed of 30 miles an hour were pretty nasty.

That little red Vette is bitchen.

Completely off topic. But did anyone else notice the guy lives in this super average, less than stealar townhome community and has a Lambo in the garage? There is an apartment complex I go past every day that you see people pulling in to with new Bimmers, Benzes and Lexus' all the time. Keep in mind this isn't an apartment complex that has infinity pools private garages and charges 3 to 4k a month, just some average complex with one dedicated parking lot spot each.

Too each their own I guess, but I have never understood people who live in crap houses or apts and own super expensive cars. I'm not saying the house has tobe expensive, but at least well taken care of. I was on a car forum for quite a few years ago. People would take photos of their new GT350s etc in their driveway with weeds coming through the cracks, fallen over trash cans, screen door coming off, etc.

you can sleep in your car but you can't drive your house. Put the money where you can show off to other people easiest. Plus most of those cars are probably leased and the houses or apartments are rented. Seen it many times.
