Just got a present on the porch yesterday. I love these Acme props when they are brand new. For all you ski boat guys, these things are the chiz-nitz. Check out the meat on these blades. the area on the three blades is the same as most four blades, and its CNC'd so there is NO vibration. When you get them serviced, they send back a multi page read out of the process. This one is a 12.5 x 15 with a slight cup.

BTW, those are not knicks on the blade, that is where the tool lifted.

I love these grooves, after a couple of repairs, they get polished away...dont ask how I know this.

Not sure a CNC'd prop would work on anything more than a ski boat, but in these applications they rock.

Feel free to add a shot of your prop.

what boat and how much power... i was gonna try a 12 x 15, ron hill made me 11.5 x 15,,, slipped too much and with 550 hp I could blow it out in the mid range... he's putting more cup....

the oj 12 x 13 works the best so far, but it lets the motor over rev...

My boat is a 1994 Ski Nautique. Power is a 351w Ford, around 280 hp. With your boat being roughly similar size weights to current big wakeboard boats, ACME may have one for you. The ACME props work well for slalom, have a nice wake, and dont give up too much on top end for barefooting. Give them a call, it would be interesting to hear what they say when you tell them 550 hp.

Your boat is the same set up as mine then, SN196 with the 351 carbbed with the GT40 heads? I think it is known as the proboss motor. What kind of numbers are you seeing? Enough for a barefoot pull?

SCcricket,

Yes, its the same set up on the motor, replaced with a short block using the GT40 heads from the original motor. Mine's the SN, its 19' 6", (not sure what year they started calling them 196 for those CC purists out there) with NO tower. With regard to performance, its got the 1.32 trans, I believe 34.2 mph is set at 3,700 rpm on the perfect pass, but could be off by a 50 or so rpm.

For barefooting, it works well though I only weigh about 170 and we use the boom alot. With the boom, I foot at about 35, and it pulls great out of the hole and hold great. Maxes out at a bit above 40 when footing, so when trying one foots, its on the soft side. Long-line barefooting its nice out of the water and the wake is smooth, so its a good combo. One footing long line with this combo of HP/Prop is not a fun thing.

This prop is the ACME 470, its replacing the ACME 612 I currently have on the boat. The 470 is a 12.5X15 with .050 cup. The 612 is a 12.5X12.25 with .050 cup, so this new one (470) should give a slightly better hole shot. We'll see how it works on BF top end, maybe it allows it to spin a bit more at WTO, or maybe it leaves it wanting.

Thanks ski, that's what I was looking for. I'm a small guy 5'6" and 150lbs so it just might work for long line. I'm not skilled enough yet for one foot and toe holds though. Here is my boat, with you having the velvet 1.32 trans it's an identical set up to what I've got.

Funny, I am trying to get a slightly smaller prop now for the Spectra with about double that power so it will slip a little. Right now it is prop walking badly at 90+ with a light load in the boat. Need to settle it down a bit.

Mine is a D&J 2 blade 11.5 x 15" with a lot of rake. Wanna try it?

Nice rig. Yep, they are brothers, from a different mother!

IMG_1673.jpg

I'm going to take the 612 off and get it re-worked (honestly, who has a gravel bar on the launch ramp and does not post a sign? f*n Shaver Lake!) after that, you're welcome to check it out on your boat. What do you have on it now?

Now I have an OJ, 4 blade 12.5x13. So I have room to bump it up in size. I just reworked the carb and had the check balls removed so it launches hard. Apparently the carb guy told me that on the Holley 4160s they have these check balls between the primaries and secondaries to keep from getting too hard of a launch and injuring the skier. I might have to take you up on the prop idea. I have only had the boat a year so I'm still in the dial in phase.

Had to add a little bling while I was at it!

check balls, noted.

hahaha, just kidding. Speaking of carbs, I'm having some issues with mine, would be very interested in speaking with your carb guy. I had mine rebuilt last year (its a Holley, not sure which one, but probably the same as your's) and its got an intermitent leak somewhere, and now its got the hot-start issues popping back up. Would like to find out more about the check balls, too, always OK in my book to have more power. If you could forward their contact info, would be great.

BTW, let me know if you want to hit Canyon and do some foot'n

The carb guy I went with is Chucks in havasu. $230 for complete rebuild with fresh diaphragm in the pump too. When you say Canyon you mean canyon lake?

I had a Sport Nautique.....great boat, had a lot of fun in it...dependable as all get out. I got no issues with tow boats...some of the best skiing I ever got was behind the Nautique....:D:D:D:D

Same goes with Jet botes. I learned to drive a boat on a 21' eliminator with a berkely pump..that was a great fun boat..and I always liked the lines of them better then any other day cruiser....:)

I have three lol

I have a no name 19 pitch stainless that came with the boat. with the new engine this is a perfect ski prop, planes quickly and gobs of torque. I have a 21 pitch Mercury Mirage that is my all day cruise prop/light skiing. (i weigh 250 so the 19 goes on to yank my lard ass round). Then i have a 23 pitch mirage plus that i use for long trips/high speed. But to be honest the 21 is on 90 percent of the time

If that is a non-metallic filter, a filter that requires oil, paper, or anything someone would consider flammable, don't open your engine hatch during a "safety check". I believe it is illegal.

Yeah I had read somewhere that if it's not USCG certified it voids insurance

I'll play,
Here's a set of B3 26 pitch Ron Hill Signature props that came with my toon. Should give good hole shot for skiing over my Bravo 3 blades on it currently.

Cricket I believe I have the same 4-blade OJ on my 1999 Ski Sanger DLX...20-1/2 ft. Open bow, 325 HP EFI Merc, Direct Drive. The boat launches hard, but like most Tourney boats runs out of steam at about 47 MPH. I have 3-blade Acme I carry as a spare, it was on the boat when I bought it, I didn't like it at all, the boat would run a mile or 3 faster but I didn't like the feel of the prop in turns with a wakeboarder up, or the vibration.
I'd like to try a CNC'd unit someday.

They work on more than just ski boats.

How do you Know Jer? Word of mouth or actually taking your boat off the trailer and trying some different hardware.
All in fun brother, please go lightly on me. You know I have a beautiful Hallett jet boat that actually sees time on the water.
I'm just saying. All is good. Peace out.

Yes I am Jer. LOL Evidently Nick Barron never had a problem with the 18' 6" length of the Mini Cruiser and neither do I.
I have never had length envy. :yikes
Unlike my Hallett, I don't recall seeing any footage of your boat actually moving on the water.
I must say that your hull and bling does photograph quite well in parking lots.:rolleyes
The Rootbeer Float will be running on the river this upcoming weekend.
Later Shooter, enjoy the driveway.:p
You do have a nice boat Jer.
