Picked up my Daytona 19 tonight. Rick did a bunch of work on my F 29 a few years back and I was very impressed so my first choice was to take my Daytona project to him.

Complete new gelcoat top to bottom, and removed four layers of automotive paint, plus fixed up some major stress cracks. It took some time to get done, but I have learned not to rush Rick. I am very very happy, the boat has a mirror finish. [emoji122]🏻

Looks great, I contacted Rick to do a complete re-do on my boat and just need to schedule to drop it off.

Was that your Howard 28 deck boat? What a shame, the boat was completely fucked up by another gelcoat shop and now islander is fixing the damage / mistakes.

Forensic's boat better be the next boat rolling out of that shop. He told me he finally started spraying it, and it should be done here pretty quick.

Sorry about the shape is in, it will come out nice, it just might take some time though. Rick closed the open bow on our Dcb F29 and it came out amazing.

Rick says we will be done in August. I hope he is accurate. I already wasted 5 months and $$$ at a shop in Havasu, only to get it back in worse condition than it was when I started.

I couldn't believe it when I saw it. Did they really roll it on its side in the gravel to work on the bottom?

And don't forget having the ability to say that so-and-so worked on it.

You got jokes...

I get top dollar for my shit when I sell it. LOL Subculture's / names / shops / all of that matters when it comes to reselling to a specific group of people that "get it"

We can go round and round Billdo...

Your looking at 2 identical boats.. One is painted by Billy B, the other is painted by Eric Anderson out of south carolina (fictitious name obviously), which one do you think will be worth more?

You have 2 v-drive Schiada's, one is sitting on a Mike Livingston trailer, the other is sitting on a Hampton.. Value?

2 Stokers, one is rigged by Al Stoker, the other was bought as a hull and rigged by xyz marine in Nor Cal.. both clamp ons..

Point in fact.. Aren't you stoker queers always the guys shouting from the roof tops "meticiulously maintained by Al?" :D

As far as the business aspect of it.. Mike King worked for Prime Marine. Services are waaaaayyyyy more profitable then building those custom 150,000+ dollar v-drives. Prime makes more money on services. Mike King doesn't want to do services, he wants to build bad ass shit. I can list off another 5-10 guys that are the same way.

It isn't about the $$ to them, it's about the creation, the project, and their level of interest in it. The dollars fluctuate based on those factors, and timelines.

My boat was not going to be worth more because xyz shop did the work over abc shop given they did the exact same work to the same spec.

Now....if I went to abc (whom is known to be a bad ass at what he does) and told them to do your thing. Or went to xyz who's not known to be a bad ass and let him do his thing. There is a chance that I would get sub par work and that it would be less valuable.

The point I originally was making before you completely went off topic was. If ABC truly is good at what he does, But is a complete jack off and has been turning out sub par work on top of blowing people off. Then the ABC brand has been devalued. Many of "the best" have fallen victim to their egos and poor business dealings. Doesn't make the work they turned out at that point any less "the best" it just means the likelihood of their reputation starting to fall is a possibility.

As a side note. The whole custom with a K. Thing. Back when I built and judged cars, when we saw something that was less than good. We always referred to it as a custom with a K ( meaning....beat, haggard, ghetto, jacked up, etc.....) the goobers always took it as a compliment [emoji108]

Now let me ask you this if you pay top dollar to get something done and get top dollar when you go to sell it did you really profit more on the sale? Referencing anything in this boating hobby as an investment to me is laughable.

Weird how sometimes meanings change over time.. I mean back when Teague was putting 6's on the Ark, and the flintstones were getting sponsored by micheline sandals..

Mine was the Daytona there getting the transom replaced, although I did just meet the owner of that today. Who I now realize is a member here as well.

It was nice meeting you today 236eagle, sorry i forgot your name already, I got a good memory, its just short.

So just to clarify, is islanders a custom shop or a kustom shop?:D

If you don't have your shit done by the best guy then you'll never believe hes the best guy. You'll always deny that hes the best just because you used someone else.

You think it's a coincidence that Rick is spelled with a "k" in it?
