I went up North and visited the guys from Tuff Marine for the end of season run. Here is a video of the day and there is an article about the story of the company.

For the first run I rode in the Tuff 34 with a single Mercury Racing 1100, it runs 148 MPH. In the afternoon I rode in the latest 25, with a tuned Yamaha 250 SHO. Incredible boat.

Did you get a sense on how these boats ride in rough water?

Do you honestly believe that this is the fastest single engine V hull on the planet? Lol

With all due respect……….. No, it is not.

148 MPH is getting along pretty good.

I'm curious what has gone faster in a similar or the same class?

now you're just gonna bum the poor guy out... He was all excited
That poor guy won't be able to find a faster single V. Especially considering it did the 148 MPH run in 1100 mode (it's a dual cal 1350) and full interior no aero hatch.

Ran in the 25 across the bay in the afternoon in a good chop and it was really good. Has a deep deadrise, I believe 22.5 degrees. That one weighs more than others as it was built with a supercharged Nizpro Yamaha in mind.

What's the deadrise at the transom?

There is an entire race class down in Australia that they have had to limit to 135mph... While pulling 2 skiers. Go ahead and imagine someone caring enough to strong one out without the rules. 148 isn't enough. 158 isn't enough...

And have any of those manufacturers of those impressive specialty boats has stepped up and run one for top speed as setup ? Not saying one couldn't be re-weighted and re-configure to run looser than they're designed for --- but has one done it and been properly clocked ?
No doubt the Nordic # 192 boat or it's successor is fast, but how fast ?

Ya, it's the fastest single engine V. 148 MPH. Fastest in the shootout at 135 MPH.
Please show me a faster single engine?

Australian BAD boats have been breaking 150mph for over a decade. Single engine V bottom V drive.

They used to all be open cockpit until they mandated Canopies a few years back.

They are essential V-bottom K-boats. Fucking badass machines

Some of the Ausie IO ski race boats are probably capable of 150, They pull two skiers above 135

Why? They are built for a specific purpose, and extremely good at what they were designed to do. They have nothing to gain from pursuing a useless number, but the mortality rate of those who do chase that number isn't good!

Have these BAD boats or an Aussie ski race boat ever clocked one for the record ? I realize they may not care, as they're amazing at performing the tasks they were designed for, but I suppose until one does, or has officially done so, the Tuff can claim the title.

....with a single carb N/A engine lol....They would be quite a handful with some K-boat horsepower

My old Howard 28 Bullet before I bought it was advertised as the fastest single engine V about 16 years ago at 130.4MPH. I "downsized" the motor to a TCM1200 and then detuned that....lol I would run it at 100MPH but had no desire to go any faster. Its still on the HB website with the "Fastest V Hull ever tested by HotBoat Magazine at 122MPH". The 130.4 run had a video with GPS separate from the HB magazine test.

148 is hauling ass in that boat but that kind of claim, just as with my boat before me, it seems is impossible to prove without racing someone or independent confirmation.

Anyhow

I rode in that boat when Gary Taylor owned it. Definitely fast, but handled the speed well.

Well no argument, the BAD boats are for sure BAD as this video shows ---- Vee bottom, check, got that, otherwise, not really in the same category as a Tuff. Yet really, that also shows just how fast that Tuff truly is.

A production boat top speed should be considered differently than a race purposed boat speed.

haha topic didnt say anything about production boats. I'm sure Tuff can squeeze a few more MPH out of there!

I wonder if they've tried a different prop?

You shouldn't call a production boat top speed the fastest on the planet then. The question here is this tuff boat the fastest single engine v-hull on the planet, because that is the claim.

What did they bring to longbeach then? I saw a single carb atop a dodge
From what I remember that’s what they told me when I asked them. Those boats ran fast and loose. Didn’t get pics of them running though. I like how they are using a wrench for their in/out on the v-drive

That's the exact boat I was thinking of....my kid sat in it at the show 'n shine on Friday night in Belmont that year and I was chatting with the driver. Those did a pretty good job keeping up with the K-boats....probably because all the Aussie drivers are just fucking nuts.

I thought I'd read where that hull design running on the course with our K's, left larger wakes and holes in the corners, making it more challenging for the K's to run at their potential. 🤷‍♂️

McCorkle (Jeremiah) drove the blue one as I recall. I have pix somewhere.

The numbers are impressive, just cant rap my head around a buying such a long boat with the sole purpose of compromising every reason to own a big boat.

Kinda like having a big dick. There's only so much you can do with it until you learn how and where to use it to it's full potential.

I think an Outerlimits SV29 with a TCM 1200QR and #6 could give it a run for the money.

The SV29 goes 100 with a Merc 600. Add another 600 and what would it do?
