Should I Reframe From Drinking???

My sister is coming for a visit tomorrow, along with her husband and daughter. None of them drink. Should I feel out of place at my own home And not drink. I consume 4-5 light beers a day. Whats your thoughts?

I have navigated this same deal with the inlaws. My house my rules your house your rules. If I feel lime a beer I have a beer. Over the years now they will have a drink with me and they actually get excited about buying a six pack when I come over

That can easily double if seeing in laws or my brother. It's self medicating, for my blood pressure as well as their safety.

You should never feel out of place in your own home. Did you say that this would be an alcohol free event? Is there some expectation that nobody will be drinking?

If your guests know that you drink and you think they'll be offended by it, then let them know ahead of time that you like to have a couple beers and give them an opportunity to graciously decline the invitation, but don't feel out of place in your home.

My father in has chosen not to drink because of his past. Doesn’t push on anyone as it a personal choice of his. I will have a drink if I want to when we are together. Most times the wife and I are driving so never more than a couple.

So I wasn’t saying that if they are then one mustn’t. I was saying that that would be the only thing that would give pause to even consider it. I know recovering addicts that wouldn’t want anyone acting any differently as a result of their past issues.

I spent a number of weeks where I shouldn’t and didn’t drink. Middle of summer and hanging at the bars with all my drinking friends. Drank Club Soda and BSed the day away. They didn’t and I didn’t want them to change their weekend routine

I don't see what the big deal is to make a few concessions for guests. We all make small adjustments for company. I prefer to shed my cloths around the house but reframe from doing that while we have company, I'm a tobaco smoker but if guests are not then I reframe from using while in their presence. Wife always puts a little extra effort into cleaning the house prior to visitors. The point being that being a good host requires us to do whatever we can to make our guests the most comfortable.

I haven’t had a drink in almost three years! But everyone around me seems to be drinking more than ever! Do I care? Nope! I’m usually the one picking up the alcohol for the parties and I’ll even pour a drink or two. Sometimes I encourage multiple shots be taken!

I know someone that comes home from work and takes off boots then socks. boots left at door, socks end up, ?????? on the floor, chair, couch, bed, kitchen counter, dining room table. socks that he just wore, for 10+ hours in refinery, right next to where he, everyone eats.

so now he is a guest in yore home. anything to make him comfortable still work for you?

yeah, I don't act so......but best behavior, sure. I am a different person depending on who is there or if anyone at all. things you don't do when others are around, like just letting one rip, or using whatever toothbrush is closest in the rack. you know, man stuff.

We do all you’ve said above. But I’m sorry. If I am people over family or not. I am not going tell 9-10 people you can’t have a glass of wine or drink because one guest can’t drink. Jmho.

Depends whether or not you want them there. If I'm not drinking...I'll typically leave when family shows up. If I am drinking...I usually don't have too work to hard to make them leave. either way I avoid them

That's what I tell my wife when she wants me to help clean the house before guests come over. I feel like we're lying to people by cleaning, they should just be able to see how we really live in our natural habitat in order to get to know us. Unfortunately, she doesn't agree...
