What is the skinny on these props? I am not familiar with them at all. Is the SL4 comparable to a Bravo 1? I am looking for two props for an HTM 26 and 28 should I just stick with the Bravo or anyone else have any luck with a 5 blade on a similiar hull?

Steve / 2Forcefull has more experience with Signature / Hill props then just about anybdoy I know.. I have 2 5 blades that I'm messing around with right now, but I haven't tried any of their 4 blades. If and when I ever get my lower unit situation figured out, I'll probably end up running a 24 4 blade of theirs to try.

RD so the signature brand is a Bronson Hill propeller? Reason I ask a friend let me borrow a spare prop he had and he does not know much about it. There is a stamp the simply says "Signature". I just finished the build on my SR 24 so I know I need more seat time to see what props work good for my set up.

I have a Ron Hill Signature 5 blade, 25 pitch that I run. it costs me about 3-4 mph of top end compared to my 26 Bravo but the hole shot is twice as good. I also plane a good 7 mph slower which is great for towing tubes. I bought the 25 5 blade at the factory because that is the biggest 5 blade pitch that they stock. They offer the 26 and higher in a 5 blade but it's a custom order. I'll have my 5 blade at desert storm if you somebody needs to give it a try. The 5 blade 25 was about $500 brand new which I thought was a pretty good deal and it's a great playing prop!

4 blade vs. 5 blade what are the biggest difference in performance. And Is anyone running a 5 blade on a cat?

I've always understood that the 5 blade should run 1" of pitch less than the 4 blade due to the increased surface area of 5 blades and increased torque generated. These both put more load on the motor and pull down your max RPM.
I find that the 5 blade "hooks up" harder than a 4 blade and definitely generates lift on the stern at a lower rpm than the 4 blade. This causes the lower planning speed which is good for wakeboarding and tubing. The 5 blades also have a slightly lower slip 8-10% as compared to the 4 blades that tend to run in the 10-12% slip. That's my experience.

As you noted, I'm running a 24' deep V with a supercharged 496 Mag.

I just bought a Hill Marine Signature SL4-26P for my Howard and so far I am really pleased. The quality is really nice. I have a Bravo one labbed 26P but it was lacking the top end I wanted. I also have a Bravo one labbed 28P which is great for long high speed boating but just didn't have the midrange acceleration I was looking for. The SL4-26 gave me what I was looking for for far for boating in Parker. Ron and Chad answered a lot of questions I had before I purchased. Give them a call

Hill marine, different company. I'm not sure Bronson is around anymore?

I have some random 26 I'm borrowing from Od1 right now.. It's been worked on so who knows how well it works.. Didn't work for shit for me.

$500 is a good deal.

Im in the same situation with my boat. Currently I run a 26P B1 and coming on plane sucks.

There is a P5X 25P for sale that I'm considering, but I'm concerned the 25P will be too much and a 24P is what would be best with the added blade.

You have me thinking though, if you came from a 26P B1 to a 25P 5 blade, maybe I don't need to drop 2 pitches... :hmm

I have a signature 24 I have been playing with but it is not labbed.

I'm thinking if I get a labbed 24 I'll be on the limited in winter? I was thinking labbed 24 and 26 might be nice to have but I've never tested

I'm just now going to run P5X's and didn't change my pitch size at all from my 26p B1XS. Same rpm on the top end for me and only a 2mph loss. But I picked up better planing and cruise. They come back from Hydromotive next week all modified for OB's. Can't wait to see how much better they are during desert storm.

One prop is rarely the answer, your gonna need two or three is you want to maximize performance with different weather and load situations.

With only one prop you will have to make some sacrifices at one end of the spectrum of trying to improve the other end of the performance spectrum.

Call Hill Marine, I picked up a prop a few weeks ago from them. Ron took me on a quick tour of the place and we talked about every thing, Once I have all the details on how the prop works on my boat I can either exchange it for another or he will work his Magic to make it work better on the prop I Purchased

I put a Signature prop from Hill on my boat last season. I love love love it. He gave me back the 50 dollar discount card and told me to use it again if anyone wants it. My boat only does 55 or so fully trimmed and empty, I don't know how it'll run in a more performance oriented environment. Between 0-50 this prop is amazing. Great prop.

Just ordered a Hill 28 et three blade for the Daytona / 300 pro max, if you don't like it you can exchange for a different size till you get the correct set up

So you went from a 26P B1 to a 26P P5x and only lost 2mph overall?

Does actual pitch vary between manufacturers?

Yes I only lost 2mph overall and expect to get that back and possibly then some after the work they just did on them. They sharpened the leading edge and made sure the props matched each other. I didn't do a full lab because they didn't recommend thinning the blades at this point.

Hydromotive claims to run true to pitch start to finish. Bravos are known to vary quite a bit out of the box and can be different pitches at the leading, middle and trailing edges.

That's some good info to know, thank you.

I will be at the boat show this weekend asking some more questions and possibly buying a new prop.

It will be interesting to see how your props run at DS, good luck.

This is why I went to a brand new SL4. Ron showed me a bravo in for labbing that was a different pitch on 2 blades. He then showed me my SL4 and all the blades were the same. It was nice they took the time.

The 5 blade 25 was about $500 brand new which I thought was a pretty good deal and it's a great playing prop!

Just for clarity, I took my 26 P Bravo into Chad and Ron due to an "issue" for repairs. When I talked to Ron, he said that they could repair my 26 Bravo which I didn't think was possible. However, after describing my issues of slow planning and weak hole shot, he told me that he recommended a 5 blade. He said that I would lose a little bit of top end but would improve performance for planning, tubing and skiing. I have to say that he was right. I asked for a 26 pitch 5 blade and he would make one but he said that the 25 should work well on my application. I have been very pleased. We do a lot of skiing and tubing as well as Parker runs with a full boat. The 5 blade has served me really well. With that said, the 26 is nice for speed runs.

I just got the boat back from Alexi at Boostpower with a new ECU map. I may want to go back to Hill for that 26 now!?!?!http://www.riverdavesplace.com/forums/images/smilies/biggrin.gif

I have a 26 bravo 1 used once in box that I would trade toward the 25 5 blade plus $100 if someone is looking to trade. Must be in new condition never damaged. The 26 is a little to much for my boat when tubing and a full load but great for top end.

My Signature SL4 done by Hole Shot Propellers but not thinned was WAY better on my 22 MTR than a You can guess what company labbed and thinned Bravo1 that was same pitch. Planed better, was just as fast. Handled better was a great prop. I sold it along with the MTR.

Then I went to a -3 shortie and had to up the pitch to 32 to keep RPM at a reasonable level. The Signature prop for what it cost, WAYYYYYYY better deal than a B1 you have to get worked then once it is thinned and the blades pitch matched you worry about shedding a blade which has happened to more than just me.

I would buy another Signature again in a heartbeat over a B1. I have a boat now, I am thinking about calling Hole Shot and see if he has anything for me to try. 21 Intimidator with custom 15" mid 300x power. I have a couple high time Mercury Racing Pro ET and a Mazco that are time bombs, especially the Pro ET. Could use a new Signature to just have fun and no worries.
