If you’re going to insult and mock the recently dead, you might want to at least know who they are.
Delores O’riordan was the singer for the Cranberries, who penned and sung “Zombie”.
She died in 2018.
Sinead O’Conner was a tortured soul from day one.
Her reasons for her actions are far more significant than anyone here is qualified to judge.
Her voice is one of the miracles of my generation.
Here rendition of “silent night” will go down in history as the most iconic rendition ever, no less than Whitney’s star spangled banner performance.
She suffered things that most here can not even imagine in their pampered lives.
So if insulting and mocking the dead is your thing, at least get the fucking names straight.
Both living art pieces are now dead, you’re still fucking alive, have a little respect.

This is Sinead O’Conner.

If you don’t know the difference you might want to just stick with cheerleading in a party on Garth suicide thread?

Sleep in heavenly peace Sinead, I for one will never forget the imprint you made on this earth during my brief inhabitance.

Or if you prefer, what I consider the most profound moment from a decidedly unprofound film.
Maybe you proclaimed family guys can understand just what Sinead O’Connor brought to the table.

I bow to no one in my love/respect for her music.

It does not diminish her genius to recognize the reason for most of her actions was naïve arrogance and mental illness.

RIP

Some things just set me off.
Who is anyone here to judge her?
Did anyone here get raped repeatedly, yet overcome?
Did anyone here have the presence of the church crushing their own existence, yet refuse to bend? (That might actually be a yes)
Everyone here knows her name, NO ONE out there knows our names. Enough said.

She had a voice and (the worst kind of) passionate intensity, not any special insight into religion/politics/society. I don't need to respect her thoughts on those things at all.

I'm more set off by those who don't respect her talent. But tastes vary.

I've never thought of it that way, but it makes sense. She accepted an Irish music award a few months back and was clearly moved - and she smiled. And why not, who doesn't want to be recognized for their talent, rather than their political stance.

But given a chance to do things differently - I imagine she would have. Nobody paid more for their actions than Sinead did.

I also agree with your second comment. Her protests were not reflected in her songs/music; she simply used her 15-minutes to grind a few axes. But in big, irrevocable fashion.

I don't think she could have.

Any more than she could keep a marriage (four divorces), her faith (two conversions), her name (two changes), etc.

But that's also why I'm not so offended by her positions. They were hardly calculated.

I call that....Balls👍
I wouldn't expect most people to understand her. It was easier to make fun of her and follow the rest of the sheep and believe the vitriol the media put out.

I poste dthis in the song thread:
She was asked last minute to perform at the Grammy Awards, where everybody wore tuxedos.
She came onstage in a halter top with torn jeans, wearing Doc Marten boots, with her infant son’s “Onezie” tucked into her pants.
And the shaved head with that weird logo on the side.
Hmmm…
After the record label signed Sinead, they told her to look like all the other cuetsie-cuetsie princesses of the day. So she shaved her head.
She wore the Onezie because the record label told her motherhood and a singing career would not work.
She wore jeans and a halter top to spite the Recording Academy and their materialistic, ideology of rewarding looks, rather than recognizing artistic merit.
She painted the cross-hair logo on her head in protest of the Recording Academy’s refusal to include Public Enemy (rap) into the awards ceremony.
Kind of like Cash did when he sang the word “stoned” on Live TV after the TV network told him not to do so.
Or, when Alan Jackson slipped a George Jones tune into his own CMA performance because the CMA refused to allow Jones to sing the full version of his (Jones) song.
We hate people like that, who stand on principle?
That’s all I’m gonna say about it.
