I met a guy a few years back that travels TX and works on these things. Real specialty business and he makes a good living at it. Nothing complicated but few companies or techs that mess with them.

Don't see a pump shaft on it, just for decoration ?
We've got several really old windmills in the area of our ranch. Used (Or were used) to pump wells for the stock feed tanks.
This one needs a bit of work, lol --- but was made by Aermotor Chicago. In fact most I've seen ----- assuming you can read the name for all the bullet holes --- were made by them. There's still a few oldies like this that are kept up and pumping.

At one time 90% of the windmills in the world were made just outside Chicago in a town named Batavia.

That's where I live, it is quite the point of Civic pride.

Well there's several up there still pumping today and from the looks I imagine they're as old as the torn up one in my pic. That's certainly something to be proud of. All that I've seen are Aermotor.
At first I thought it odd that all the Arizona windmills we've found were from Chicago, figured the ranches were getting them from an old Sears Catalog, lol :D
Here's another one we found that was more hidden up in a canyon, not as shot up
I think these old windmills are really a cool part of history, never felt inclined to shoot one or a road sign for that matter

I enjoy that everyone is noticing the harness, but not the standing-on-a-pallet-in-the-forks-of-a-forklift aspect of the job.

Well done Mr. Hula.
After the shitshow thread about my home built gantry, I figured I'd spice it up a little....

I lol'd....

It was a really nice pallet though.

Lotsa chit was built way before osha...we wouldn't have half the high rises in the good old USA if they were overseen by osha...

So we were taking another look at the gearbox last night, and wondering when this thing was built. My guess is before the 40's? Only reason I say that,

is the tower is assembled with square headed bolts. I can't imagine that if it were built later it wouldn't be hex heads? I am no expert in anything old. Just a guess. Anyone have a source?

Both of the plants I worked at were built in the fifties, and the ironwork was all square head bolts.

Edit in, the columns were riveted, but crossbracing, was bolts

Another fun little detail. All the bolts we removed came apart with wrenches. No penetrating oil, torches, nada. No stripped threads. I couldn't believe how well it came apart.
