Happened on the way to Glamis last week. I was about 15 miles to Brawley and saw sparks flying out the back of the trailer from my side view mirror. Bike rolled forward and flipped over. I figure I drug it for about 200 yards. Handlebars, brake reservoir and done. Plastic got a lil scuff, broken foot peg, Scratched wheel and hole in the side of clutch cover. Needless to say it didnt get rode all weekend. Im just glad it didn't let go and go through someone's windshield.

...Oh and it broke the tail light on my buddy's Rhino.

no harbor frieght crap... I've had good luck going to constuction supply houses like hub, white cap, blue coller supply and getting them. Sun and friction is what eats them up.

I already figured that. Who's got the best deal on about 10 of them? Harbor Freight?

If you buy things like tiedowns at Harbor Freight.. Expect to post more threads that start exactly like this one.. LOL

I picked up a bunch of load binders from Princess Auto (Canadian version of Harbor Freight) to tie an excavator to a flat bed. I went to Princess because they were cheap. They work OK and I trust their strength.

... but after using them for a couple of years, I ended up spending the money for decent load binders from a heavy truck supplier. After seeing how nicely they work with increased throw making it easier to position the machine, lever locks, etc. I believe they are the same deal... I just bought less product from Princess Auto.

I know you asked about ratchet straps but it's the same deal. Those cheapos don't work nearly as nicely as a decent quality strap and they are weaker.

The cheap Chinese nylon straps are getting pretty crappy these days. The tow straps rated for 40K pounds will easily snap when pulling a car out of a snowbank. I've snapped one and I've heard of countless others. I would imagine the real load capacity is 3~5K pounds.

The lesson learned in all of this is that I'm a sucker for cheap prices. :D

Wrong.
Excess strap from the Rhino was wrapped around the Banshee's tie down (so it wouldn't drag down the highway). That somehow tangled up and thank God because it was the only thing holding my bike from letting go.

I have a couple for the transom of my boat I bought at Pep Boys. They are really thick and where about $25 a piece if I remember right. I think they are rated to 10k lbs. I was thinking about checking Grainger.

I've had Ancra's come loose on me more than once. I threw em all in the trash. I only use ratchet straps now.

Wal-Mart used to carry some Good american made ones. Not sure if they do anymore.

You get what you pay for with straps. Sorry to hear bout your mess!

Remember Carmen is a bitch. Keep talking shit and Im sure your boat or whatever toys you have will fall off the trailer and you'll wonder why.;) LOL.. Honestly its probably because I was drunk when I strapped them down, I was trying to get a real buzz going for the drive.

Yes Im thankfull I didn't kill someone. It could have been bad.

I bought a set(six of them) of ratcheting tie downs at Costco a year or so ago that are pretty nice. Also, I use carbine snap hooks to attach them to the tie down hooks in the bed.

I didnt go through the whole thread...but Im guessing this point has been brought up once or twice already ;)

Just go to RDs garage....he has probably a couple hundred tie downs there. most are still brand new in the package.

Cool! I hear he has a fridge full of Coors lights I can load my ice chest with and gas I can siphon out of his Schiada. I'll be sure to stop by on my 1st Havasu trip. :thumbsup

dam bro that is a bummer! next time make sure the bike is in gear and that will help it from rolling back. you don't need some expensive ass tie downs for a quad or sxs. The heavy duty harbor freight ones are more than enough to hold sand toys in place, after all they are made in good old china where everything else is made LOL. i have a gate on my trailer as well so worse case it can't roll off the back:D
