Thought I would throw this out there. Looking for a tile setter, or hell any construction experience at this point. We can teach you to lay the tile. If you, or anyone that you know might want a shot please call me @ 760-458-0464. Name is Jeremy. Job is prevailing wage @ $35.89hr. Should last around 3 weeks but is looking like it might expand to many more projects. Said person can start tomorrow. Craigslist has been tried, only producing leads that are not even allowed on base. FML:grumble:

Man I wish I could help you out. I love setting tile and have done a few K sq ft. To me its an art and fun But it's back breaking work But if I weren't on disability I would be all over this. I worked on Pendelton and many other bases doing demolition. But those days are long ago. Good luck on your'e search. It's good money and easy for somebody that knows how to do it! Just for shits and giggles how many sq feet do you have and is it latrines or BEQ hallways.

Thanks for the lead. He gave me a call, but is wrapped up until next thurs. Might try and do some piece work with him on our residential side. Luckily I was able to find a guy. Fingers crossed

Not a crazy project by any means and zero artistic style. Unisex bathroom and mens bathroom. Dal Tile base cove up the wall with field tile and capped with bullnose. Floor is 2x2. Walls are 450sq ft and floors are 350sq ft. Problem is the 8 day deadline plus all our residential remodels in various stages. The first day was more paperwork and layout. Then in passing, general tells me we have another building ready next week.:eek Goal is to keep 3 guys on this project for the duration.

Does this job have any DVBE requirements. I'm bidding a large university project and at least 5% of my contract price has to go to a DVBE. I'm having a hard time finding where I can basically give a DVBE company 100k.

I do not believe so, but not 100% sure. I honestly would have no idea where they could be plugged in on this project as well.

Those base jobs can be fun at times especially if them federal inspectors are around. Was to do a job about 12 years ago there and as soon as i stepped out of truck one was all over me looking over truck and anything he can asking about permits i never heard of and so on.Had the super yelling at me for showing up at the wrong time(10 min early) and this and that.I ended up sneaking away and leaving told my boss i was not going back.I had looked at it earlier in the week told what we needed he was cool then

Super calls up right after to apoligize saying he didnt meant to yell but had to act like he was doing something never had my back while im getting chewed out by inspector telling them i never been to that job to look earlier.

Other times its been a breeze but boss says he has extra paper work to fill out and has to do more for my pay scale too.

That sucks. This is very common right now. Chance to make more money real quick and they are gone knowing you are stuck. Where in Vista and who is doing it? I am located in Shadowridge. Or they could just be in jail like the guy I got for Pendelton.

Guy was super cool on the phone. Covered all the consequences with him about security on base. He said no problem, good to go. I was to meet him in the morning inside of the gate. Fill out my official application and we would go from there. Long story short, not good to go. Did'nt even get to meet him. Expired license, no car reg, no car insurance, warrants and felony driving under the influence of drugs multiple times. He got arrested and his car impounded. The gate guards called me in to their office to explain everything to me, trying to keep a straight face. They told me he has to be a very special kinda stupid.:eek He did make their day a little exciting. Needless to say, I am now signed up with a background check company.

Give is right. I ran a DVBE GC for a couple years. The Fed basically gave us a couple $M a year in work. They put the screws to me on some things, but still no competition.

I know a good DVBE floor guy. Maybe some other trades.

Yep. I spoke with the DVBE lady for the job Im bidding. I asked why they needed to know before my bid who I was using. She said that I am required to have 5% of my job costs go to DVBE. But if I come up with 10% I could get the job over my competitor based on this and not so much my quote.

My mistake. It was actually an SB8A GC. So are the subs I know of.
Same deal though.

These discounts for using MBE's etc are ridiculous. Whatever happened to the lowest responsible bidder?

Does Pendleton have a different scale than state? We just finished a concrete job and apprentice rates for cement masons were $50.55.

I think the state wages are determined by DIR. Federal wages are determined by Davis Bacon.

man, these wages sound awesome, are there any benefits? I got screwed going to a management position and no medical or dental is covered, only a med savings plan. I am planning on getting a contractors license and getting out of the office soon, hopefully by January, I cannot handle struggling anymore and the BS in the office, I need to get a regular schedule and out building stuff for my family's sake and my sanity lol!

These wages are great if you're an employee. If you plan on hiring guys for PW work, add in extra time as the crew will milk it if they know the next job is regular pay scale, then add in all the paperwork requested by DIR and you'll ask yourself why you took on the project.
