Last night we stopped by my cousins house for a quick visit, he and his date were chilling having a cocktail and waiting for couple #2 to show up. We hung out for a bit and visited, other couple showed up, they tapped the uber app and 10 minutes later their driver arrived.

Anyways it got me thinking, a lot of times after the day is done and the kiddo goes to bed, I'm just sitting around. It occurred to me I could become an uber driver and if I was bored, go make a few bucks. I'd imagine out here in the burbs you could find a couple of locations to work, who knows.

Anyone here use the service?

I just downloaded the app the other day but have not used it yet - I have some friends that swear by it and talk about how convenient it is. I don't know that I want to drive others but I could see me using it for sure

Some of my friends use it all the time and I have clients that use it all the time too.

If you get a group of people together, it's not that unreasonable.

Friends and I use it. Great way to get home and not have to stick a guy with being the DD. It's a little pricey but to me a DUI is way worse lol. I know a lot of teachers are doing the driving on weekends for some extra cash. You need to be minimum of 25 I believe. The way it works is there is uber which brings you the town car or escalade. Those drivers are uber employees. Then they have uberX which is what people do as a side business. The way I understand it is if you are an uberX driver you log on and make yourself available for the night. If someone in your area request a driver you get a notification an have like 30 seconds to respond. If you don't the next driver gets the text. I'm not sure how they give seniority on who's up first.

I have a friend that uses it for LAX runs - I pay about 170 when I use a town car service. He tells me he usually has a Honda camcorder or the like take him using ?ber and he pays around 80...

I like having the same driver and traveling in a town car when traveling - but I could see using it around town after dinner and drinks.

460 sets them up with the uber enhanced version...

I have friends that use it all the time. I downloaded the app almost a year ago but they don't service my area. It's like a cab but quicker. Instead of a yellow cab, it's a town car and usually grey in color. It's cheaper than a cab as well.
Basically you open the app, type in where you want to go and how many people. The ap reads your location then gives you a price. The price includes tip! It's cheap and easy and they have insentives like giving a discount if you give people a code. It's growing fast but getting more expensive now since they are starting to get more regulated by the govt.

Might not be a bad idea since we don't have them out here yet. I use a guy that has a town car and pretty sure he just works for himself no meter or anything. Around $30 to get from Upland to my house in Fontana. Figure he burns probably 4-5 gallons of gas round trip so that's about $16-20, a few dollars towards the car and $10-15 in his pocket. Pretty sure he isn't getting a return trip from my area back to the bars!! :D

I use it all the time and its awesome. Nice not to have to ask the cab driver to go to an ATM if u don't have cash. It's great that u can see where the cabs are. Sometimes I look and if there are tons of cars close by I party a little longer. If it's far away I will send for them. The best is u can do it all in seconds from the app and not have to get on the phone with a cab company if your in a loud bar or whatever. Uber X is a cool concept but the other cab companies are coming down hard on these guys since they are stealing market share. It's gonna either turn the cab business on end and create good competition or it's going to get regulated by the government and shut down.

How much do you have to pay Uber? You could probably make some pretty good money just by word of mouth thru the friend grapevine if you are reasonably priced and its consistent. Just get the square which is free and I think 2.75% on swipes and you can run cards on the spot.

Business license, different insurance, and other credentials needed.

Like many here, I have friends that use it and really talk it up. Downloaded the app a while back but haven't used it yet. Been meaning to try it out, maybe on my next airport run.

We use it all the time. 1/2 the cost of a cab and you can understand the drivers. :thumbsup

Used it twice in Phoenix a few week's ago. Worth every penny. 30 to 35 d0llar's. On the second pickup I gave the driver an extra 10 and he gave me a card for a free ride. I'm sold.

I use it all the time, usually UberX. Same price as cab, just hit the button and they show up. LA, Palm Springs, Vegas, Lakers and Dodgers. Long cab line and we just wait at bar until our car shows up.

So I've been thinking about when I would be an uber driver, I think that I would prefer to work the walk of shame hours, basically 5:00-9:00am on Saturday and Sunday mornings. IMO that shit would be epic, the whores are all blown out and just want to get back home and the dip shits just want to get back to their cars in the bar parking lots. Either way not a bunch of drunks to deal with, more so the walking wounded that will give you zero problems. :D

We use it often. I only have used the ?ber and uber SUV which is just like regular black car service but is typically an escalade or navigator. I have no interest in trying uber x. To me, there is something really weird about being picked up by some random dude in a random car. With the Black car service you know what to expect and you get it. Slightly more than a taxi but so worth it.

I don't know if there is a service out there for the boating community but this may be an idea $$$ for someone to make some money. A service like uber could be used in the channel in Lake Havasu or other favorite lake or river. Let your clients party all they want in the channel or where ever they desire, you may even take them for a cruise around the lake. When your clients are ready to go pile everyone in the boat and go to the boat launch. Load the boat on the trailer and take it to where your clients are staying. Obviously boating is different from driving a car but for someone with boating experience and can back down a trailer this could be an oppurtunity for someone to make some extra money $$$ and keep everyone safe...

A few years ago when my daughter was first born, my wife, and I along with my newborn and a friend went to Barley Brothers for dinner and drinks. We sat at the bar and my wife was the DD. One of the bartenders gave us a card for a service in Havasu- not sure if it they are still around but it was a great idea.

Some high school kids in Havasu started a company where you call them up. They ride down to your location on their Go-Peds and drive you and your vehicle home. It was a pretty inexpensive service and it?s a great idea. I am surprised the idea hasn?t caught on in other places too.
