What are some good forums out there where I can start to learn about them.

If you thought owning a boat was like taking you money and setting it on fire, you may want to stay away from sand rails.

I have a GREAT starter rail for someone. wont cost you a fortune to get into, and you wont out grow it any time soon.

Its a suspension unlimited 4 seat with fuel injected 2332 VW motor. 16 inches of travel, A arm front end, 5 link rear end, beard suspension seates, HID lighting, fox shocks, fully built weddle 091 trans and 930 CV's and lots more. very reliable, turn key ready to go. ask around and do your homework, you will see my car is put together RIGHT and has all the best oarts on it. Engine was just rebuilt by Adam Wik of Wiks performance, has MAYBE three trips on it.

very nimble duner, turns on a dime, handles GREAT. This car is turn key ready to go to the dunes. Im think about 16,500 for it. i have about 35k into the car. if interested PM and i can send you some pics. Funny, i was just abouit to list the car in a private listing and i saw this.

heres some video in the car from glamis

What type of rail you looking for? Older bug motor J&J type? Or new school baller type? If it is the first I know where there is a bad ass J&J that I believe is for sale out here

You're a little late, you coulda bought Dave's (DCB) buggy last year. Actually, maybe the year before. 1000hp nice rig, he was asking 250k for it. Anyone know where it went?

Great time to buy, rails that were going for 100k are now down around 50k. glamisdunes.com is the place for edumacation on the subject.

Best to remember what ONE A DAY said! :p

How much are you looking to spend?

What do you have to transport it with? (toy hauler? stacker?)

I spend about as much time on here as I do on there. Lesson 1 its cheaper to buy than build unless you have a lot of peeps that will deal on parts. Times have hit the offroad guys hard. You can pick up a 50-75k rail for 25k now. Don't let anyone bull shit ya. I've seen the deals.
You have to decide what you want to do. Just sand or a mix of dirt and sand? What are you going to haul it on or in?
Just join the group over there and put it out there that you are looking. There are a lot of good guys that will give you rides all day long.

Thanks for the advice guys. I will likely be going out with friends and merely need a place to crash... I figured a sand rail with an enclosed trailer will fit the bill for now. I can vent it and install a heater an a BBQ that's all I need. Maybe a camping shitter as well. I have seen a range of ls1 rails from 20k to 50k seems that there is a huge disparity in the market... Thanks for the references I'm starting to learn although at glamisdunes I registered but still can't see pics. Oh well I guess I have to earn that

You also forgot to mention what will make you happy. Do you want everyone to think you have a big bad ass rail with a huge big block while you do wheelies down the drags, a rail that dunes extremely well, a rail that jumps. You like the stance to be tall, or lower. You ever going to go into the dirt, maybe run in the desert for hundreds of miles? My personal rail would be a funco big5 with a subaru (would be a 2 seater if I didnt have a family). Great low stance for stability, great duners, and can jump (although not made to jump big). Second for me would be an Extreme EcoII. Not really into the Buckshots or the likes, looks nice, but they just seem too heavy for what I like.
