Why doesn't CA sell 85 octane?

Driving up through NV and ID and all the stations sell it. Why not in CA, at least not in Southern CA that I've seen?

Isn’t that limited to high altitude gas stations?

That's what i always though, usually the only time you see 85 Octane is above 3,000 feet or so in areas of wide spread altitude above that point, Utah, Colorado, Wyoming, etc, etc,

Ca gas is already shitty, why even put crappier gas in. Plus 2 of 3 vehicles run on 91 anyway. I would love to have 93

In my wife’s Grand Cherokee i swear it runs better with the Utah 85, as well gets way better mpg.

Just to clarify here, are we talking about 85 octane or E-85 fuel because there is a beig difference.

85 octane. Today in Boise I had 3 choices at Chevron, 85, 87, and 91. My truck is running fine on the 85 ever since I started using it outside of Vegas at the 15 and 93 junction. I remember some lower octane like 85 or 86 available in Ohio too.

I'm surprised Ca hasn't banned all motor fuel in the state.
There working on it , believe me, San Francisco is banning all petrol fueled delivery vehicles in city limits we're looking into electric trucks in the next couple of months to operate there.

I thought it had exactly to do with altitude.
High altitude they go lower.
In Florida they have the 93 some of these guys wish for;)
Has to do with air density.

About 4.50 a gallon

So in today's puzzler I'm fueling up in Twin Falls, Idaho and this station has 87, 89, 90, and 91 octane, plus diesel.
